Chapter 49 – Maybe!
[Hakim]: Erekiel, your tears are atonement for your sins as much as they come from your heart.
[Erekiel]: I ask for your forgiveness, prophet Hakim!
[Hakim]: I am but a messenger, Jahum is the one who will forgive if you ask for it.
Hakim was astonished at how creatures have taken into their hearts all the bullshit what he was throwing at them. Books of religion and philosophy, which Hakim had read in the underground library near the monument was useful. There were long lost tales and information about how the world and living beings could have been created or come into existence. Jah was the name of god or higher existence from a religion or movement called Rastafari. Hakim has added “um” part to the original and has made up a new name for the new god who will rule the new world.
[Hakim]: What was the demon like?
[Erekiel]: Initially, it had human appearance. It changed its form into wolf’s in front of my eyes. Wolf was as tall as me. It talked to me in that form. I could sense bloodlust from it.
[Hakim]: A transformation. Interesting, continue Erekiel.
[Erekiel]: He told me that he wants to meet you.
Hakim bended his body forward, placing his left arm onto his left leg. Thumb under his chin, index finger of left hand facing sky while resting besides his left eye, Hakim began to think about the situation.
[Frojal]: Any orders?
[Hakim]: Everyone should rest! Jahum will show me the way in my dreams.
Hakim was planning flawless victory. There had to be casualties but he had to make sure that his rule until his death shouldn’t be questioned. Hakim was lost in thoughts. Calculating every single step as if playing game of chess. Possibilities and different situations had to be figured out and estimated to be ready in case of emergency. Hours passed and it was time to go to bed. Closing his eyes, Hakim lay on the bed. Being a king has its own advantages he mused to himself. His mind and body were tired of daily activities and bed time was the best time. He relaxed his body and began to sleep.

[-]: Hey...
[-]: Hello...
Hakim heard the voice calling out to him. He fabricated his dreams and Jahum’s messages. “Am I actually being talked to by God?” reflected while in sleep.
[-]: Hey!!!
Hakim didn’t know how to answer to the voice. Deep in sleep, he began to feel his body vibrating.
[-]: Wake up!
[Hakim]: Argh... Argh...
A human hand was covering Hakim’s mouth, while another hand was firmly grabbing his right arm. He couldn’t move. The one who caught him was overpowering Hakim.
Aslan’s POV
It was hard to get into the tent undetected. There is a small man sleeping on the bed. Guards protecting the tent and its surroundings meant that he is someone important. I am not sure whether he is Hakim or not so I took the chance...
[Me]: Hey!!!
He was in deep sleep!
[Me]: Wake up!
I began to push his body to wake him up. He woke up and I covered his mouth with my right hand and grabbed on his right arm to disable his movement.
[Me]: Do not worry, I am not going to kill you!
His eyes were inspecting me diligently. I think he was stuck in between to believe me or not.
[Me]: I want to talk! Are you Hakim?
He nodded by closing and opening his eyes. He was not lying, I could tell from his heartbeat. Actually, this small man was more fit to be a king than most of the people I have met until now. He didn’t lose his composure even though I could kill him by just snapping his head.
[Hakim]: I am Hakim. Who are you?
[Me]: I’m Aslan from Kali tribe.
[Hakim]: Never heard of them.
[Me]: I was summoned to this world.
[Hakim]: Are you the one who could transform to wolf?

[Me]: Yes.
[Hakim]: What are you here for if not killing me?
[Me]: Killing you would be pointless as these creatures will attack us endlessly until either side disappears.
[Hakim]: Rational thinking. I like that!
[Me]: I won’t let you kill off our side slowly as well. It’s going to be full attack, either us or you!
[Hakim]: Are you here to tell me that?
[Me]: No, I’m here to ask you to meet King Bartholomew to talk peace with him and future of this world and its inhabitants.
[Hakim]: What’s in it for you?
[Me]: There is a portal in Cursed Lands that could send me to my world. I’m searching for that.
[Hakim]: What is a portal?
[Me]: It’s a tool of a kind which can transport me back my world.
[Hakim]: The Monument!?
[Me]: What monument?
[Hakim]: Nothing, arrange a meeting with Batholomew, and I may help you out personally.
[Me]: You know about the portal?
[Hakim]: Maybe!

Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. Seeking answers to mysteries that arose after his parent’s murder, Tal must accept any allies, no matter the risks, to uncover his family’s secret. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.
