《My Cerberus Girlfriend》Book One: Chapter 23

Beneath the police station, Roger parked his car inside the underground parking lot. He hoped the Cerberus was cleaning up his apartment. If they make a bigger mess, goodbye to his next paycheck.
He entered the elevator and went up to level three, the office floor. After the elevator door opened, he walked passed desks where the officers answered their phones.
What is going on? He hustled past the busy staff and reached the chief's office door.
Before he touched the doorknob, Chief Duncan pushed it open, almost slamming the door into Roger's face. "Oh-Roger! Sorry about that!"
Roger stepped from the door. "It's fine, sir. What is the buzz?"
"Come in." Duncan widened the door open as Roger stepped through.
After he closed the door, Duncan approached his desk. "Everything is going crazy out there. We got our hands completely full."
Roger scratched the back of his head. "I don't understand, sir."
Duncan dropped three photos on his desk. "Look at these."
Roger stared at the photos over Duncan's desk. In one photo, a gigantic shadow leaped over two buildings at night. It has three heads, and it appeared to be massive. Roger guessed he knew what that creature was. Another monster from the Underworld.
The next photo showed a giant green tentacle grabbing fisherman on a boat. The last photo showed a woman taking a selfie in a park. Behind her, a goatman waved while standing up in a bush.
"Those sightings are appearing around the city," Duncan explained. "But not just the city. It is happening worldwide."
Roger widened his eyes at Duncan. "Worldwide?"
Duncan raised an eyebrow. "Yes, didn't you saw the news?"
Nope, because the girls broke my damn TV! "I've been sleeping for a while."

Duncan picked up a cup of coffee and drunk it. "Well, lucky you. I have been up all night trying to contain the panic. An old woman kept screaming about her dog getting eaten by a lizardman. And a housewife told her husband got pulled into a pool by a ghostly woman and vanished. I also saw the security footage of you with a three-headed dog woman at the museum.”
Roger’s mouth hung. He has forgotten about the surveillance watching the museum.
“Care to explain that?” The chief asked, crossing his arms and tapping his foot.
Before Roger opened his mouth, the window behind Duncan exploded. Fire, wind, and pieces of debris sent Roger flying backward.
His back hit against the wall, and he crashed to the floor. The fire alarm rang through Roger's ears as he rose, covered in ashes.
Smoke flowed around him as he coughed. He could barely see until the smoke escaped through a large hole in the wall where the window was.
Roger dashed toward the desk and looked over it. "Chief?"
Piles of bricks and rubble laid below the open hole where Duncan stood. But Roger couldn't see him. "Chief!"
A moan escaped from the debris as a hand emerged.
"Chief!" Roger jumped over the desk and grabbed the hand.
He pulled until Duncan's body out. The black man has blood and dust all over himself. And a sharp piece of glass struck out through his right eye.
"Chief, can you hear me?" Roger shouted.
Duncan coughed out blood and slowly glanced up at Roger. "Shit….. I don't think I'm….. Going to make it….."
Roger squatted toward the chief. "Just hold on! Someone should be calling 911!"
Duncan coughed again. "No time….. Get the bastards who did this….. And tell my family….. I love them….."

His eyes crossed before he drifted into silence.
Roger's eyes widened. "No! Chief!"
He placed his fingers on Duncan's neck. His pulse stopped.
Roger wiped a tear off his face. First his partner, and now his chief. Why was this happening?
"Hey! Coppers!" A deep feminine voice shouted from outside. "Do we have your attention now?"
Roger closed Duncan's eyes and rose over the chief's body.
Rest in peace, sir. He looked through the hole and spotted two women on the street.
One of them carried a smoking bazooka, and the other held a light machine gun in both her hands. The woman with the bazooka was huge with muscular arms, long black hair, and….. Horns? She also has a tail hanging down behind her.
The other woman wore a red dress, and she has a scorpion tail sticking out from behind her back. Obviously those women weren’t human.
Below the building, the police rushed out and pointed their guns at the monsters. “Freeze!”
The women aimed their weapons at the police.
“You freeze!” The scorpion woman shouted.
“What do you want?” the lieutenant asked.
The scorpion woman held up a paper with a drawing on it. “We are looking for this human! He is working with you!”
Roger narrowed his eyes at the drawing. The drawing was a human face who looked like him. Were those women after him? But why? The only monsters who knew him were Katina, Cilla, Labda, and Medusa. How did they know he was at the station?
“I think that’s Roger,” one officer suggested.
The scorpion woman smiled. “Good, is he here? Tell him to come out!”
“Or we will blow you all to Hades!” the horned woman shouted.
Roger might not know them, but he doesn’t want his other fellow officers to die by the hands of those monsters. His job was to protect people, no matter what cost he took.
He stepped toward the edge of the hole and waved his arms up. “Hey! Up here!”
The monster women glanced at him.
“I’m Roger!” he shouted. “I’ll surrender if you don’t hurt them!”
The monster women laughed.
“Good choice!” The scorpion woman placed her light machine gun behind her back and bent her knees down.
She leaped over the cops and landed next to Roger. Before he could move, she punched his face, knocking him out into the darkness.
