《The First Rabbit Dungeon》Chapter 15 - A Way to Relieve Boredom
Advertisement
After a long fight that lasted quite a while compared to our normal three way fights, I ended up the victor. And I feel amazing for it.
The feeling of winning a fight is the best isn't it!?
All three of us put our best effort forward. In some ways it feels like we even pushed past our limits during that fight, but it allowed us to fight a lot longer then what I am usually able to.
The person that did this the most would probably be Jason since he is a fire mage.
With him making fireballs constantly, and using his internal fire magic the entire fight, I was very surprised that he lasted that long. I don't know if he was always holding back, or if he made a large leap in his internal fire magic that let him use less mana for more strength.
External magic is more about controlling the elements, so the only improvements that you can notice with it is a speed increase for his fireballs. Which wasn't apparent, so I can assume it has to deal with his internal fire magic.
Not caring enough to ask, I never found out the true reason.
Either way, all of us made improvements, and that is what matters.
Currently we are all sitting down focusing on refilling our mana. I am currently finding it a little bit hard to focus on making the surrounding water mana come to me though because of the pain all over my body.
None of it is visible and if I don't show it on my face, no one would be able to notice that I was in pain. I just have to push through it until I have enough mana so I can relieve the pain by sending enough mana towards the spots that hurt.
If the wound is only a minor wound that would heal fine over time, anyone can just send enough mana towards it to speed up the healing process. Since wounds are something that happen on the body, internal magic is required to do this.
Halflings, despite being the worst at internal magic, are the best at healing.
Something about their internal magic makes it so the healing process is a lot faster when used by their internal mana. That is what other people say is the reason, but I believe that their worse physique makes it so it doesn't require as much mana to heal it back up.
Even with that, they are still considered better at healing than any other race.
And even then, they have a way for using external magic on others to heal the person's wounds. Most people will never be able to learn this technique, and the only humans that know this technique are members of the church.
There has only ever been one case of a human learning the ways of the halfling healing directly from a halfling. I heard from the stories of the church that the halfling was then killed for being a traitor. This was just before the Great Mistake (war of the three races) so it can be said as one of the causes of the humans joining in the war against the halflings and titans.
The person that learned was the founder of the church. They are a very large group of people that are dedicated to healing the world, and in each village there is at least one member of the church in case someone gets injured and isn't able to handle the healing process on their own.
Two sources of healing is always better than one.
The only way to learn their ways is to join them for life. Anyone that leaves or betrays them is never heard of again. Or that is what I have heard from the scary stories told in the orphanage.
Besides those few bad stories, the church is viewed in a very positive light.
With how large of a group they are, it is no surprise that there is a dark side to their fancy healing ways.
Suddenly I feel a weird shiver pass through my entire body. For a few moments I just wait for something to happen, yet nothing happens and I start to look around. Meeting my eyes with Jason's eyes, he is the first to talk. "Did you guys just get a shiver down your spine a few moments ago?"
"Yeah, I felt it too. I wonder what caused it." I say back to him as I look to Emerald for her response. All she does is shrug her shoulders and goes back to refilling her mana.
Thinking for a few more moments I give up on trying anymore, and just go back to thinking about what I was thinking about. What was that again? Man, I hate when that happens, now I have to find something else to think about.
Eventually my mind just goes blank, as I continue to absorb the surrounding water mana to expand the current mana in my mana core.
POV Change - Hunter
At the same time in the Orphanage...
I was just sitting here at the orphanage bored out of my mind playing with a little air ball by moving it around randomly when suddenly I had a weird feeling pass over me. The feeling didn't hurt me at all, and it only lasted a instant, not even a second went by before it disappeared on me.
With that feeling not appearing again, I start to think again, and I suddenly get a great idea that will relieve my boredom. "Hey guys." Looking over to the group of six guys that are laying around the room with me.
There is usually two more in my group of friends, but they are doing something else at the moment. "What is it?" Asks Edward, my right hand man who seems to be just as bored as I am.
"Do you guys want to go pick a fight with those three weirdoes?" Saying my brand new idea out loud for the first time.
Another person speaks up instead of Edward to answer my question. "Didn't we already destroy the tree that they always hanged out at? Why go fight them again?" Well I guess he didn't answer my question per say.
Before I can answer my question another person speaks up. "And didn't we lose the fight last time? They are older than us by two years, and they train all the time for some reason, what makes you think that we can win this time?"
Oh no, I am losing them. I don't know what to say, but luckily Edward speaks up and says exactly what they wanted to hear. "Who cares if we lost last time? They were the ones that wanted to fight us. None of us wanted to fight, yet they beat us up like we were nothing. We should go get revenge for that!"

"That isn't how I remember..." Another one speaks up before I cut him off. Looking at him, I realize that the one who I cut off was Shorty. He is named like that because that is the nickname that Edward gave him on his first day here. We never learned of his real name.
He was short when he was young, yet he is pretty much the average height compared to everyone else. So his nickname isn't the most accurate thing in the world. It was for a while at least, so it just stuck with him.
While meanly staring down at Shorty, who happens to be laying on the floor while I am on a bed I start to make up some random story that will go along with Edward's lie. "Yeah Edward. I remember how we went up to them, trying to get them to hang out with us for a little bit, then they just started to beat us up!"
Getting another one of those weird feelings pass through me, I know that I am on the right track. The first feeling gave me the idea to relieve my boredom, and now it is telling me to continue what I am doing. It is hard to describe it, but it kind of feels like a distant yet very close voice is telling me what to do.
And so far, I have no desire to deny this voice and not do what it is telling me. So for now I will try my hardest to get them to follow me to go beat up those three weirdoes.
The one who first spoke, not counting me or Edward, spoke up again. "Yeah! Screw them, we just wanted to hang out with them. Let's go kick their butts for beating us up." Ah, just what I wanted.
With now three people wanting on the side of wanting to beat the weirdoes up, two more of them quickly join in. The only person left is Shorty who is still on the fence about the whole thing.
Now, how do I convince him to join us? He is even better then Edward in terms of fighting, so we need him if we want any chance at winning the upcoming fight. As if he heard my thoughts, he asked a simple question. "Wait a second guys. Isn't that half-freak apart of the group that you are going to fight?"
"Why yes he is Shorty." Watching his face, I notice that he is getting very angry right now. "I am guessing that you are joining then?"
"It's not a 'he'. Call it properly next time." Shorty jumps up off the floor, and stares at me. "So when are we going?" Pounding his fists together, I hear a big smack as they collide against one another.
Oh right, I think I remember hearing that Shorty is a orphan because his parents died due to a titan adventurer when he was really young. He has a hatred for anything titan related now.
I can understand his reasoning, so I have never brought it up before. Me personally I also have a slight hatred of them after hearing so many bad things about the titans in old stories of the Great Mistake, and other stories. If they haven't done anything good enough for a story to be made about them, they really don't deserve to be considered people just like all the great stories about humans.
A few days later...
It has been a few days now and we still haven't seen the weirdoes. Where the heck are they?!
I knew that they were weird for not coming to the orphanage to sleep all the time, but three whole days? And it just happens at the same time as I get the feeling that told me to fight them too.
How bad must my luck be for this to happen?
Quite high apparently. Suddenly though, my thoughts are broken, as I hear someone yelling in the distance. They are currently too far for me to hear what they are saying.
"Hunter! Hunter!" I hear, as they finally get close enough for me to make out what they truly saying.
I turn around to look at who is running at me, then I realized that it is actually Edward. Letting out a sigh, I wonder why he do that so much? "What did I say about what you should call me? Call me boss, that is the proper way to call the leader of the group."
Edward sighs, while still trying to catch his breath. "Fine, Boss. I found the weirdoes about ten minutes that way." As he says that, he points back from where he just came from.
"Good job. Come on, let's go gather everyone up then we will head out." Letting out another sigh myself, as I realized that I won't have to walk in this stupid forest anymore to try and find them.
I am just glad that the weirdoes decided to still hang out near here though. If not, I don't think we would have been able to find out where they hang out without taking at least a couple months of searching.
After some time, we finally get everyone together, but by then it is too late to have enough time to get there, fight and reach the orphanage in time for curfew. "You guys get one more free day before we come and destroy you." Angrily shaking my fist in their direction from my bedroom window.
If only we were allowed back in the orphanage for the night if we missed curfew, we would be going to fight them. But, I for one don't want to sleep on the ground like those weirdoes in case the fight lasted too long.
And I don't think any of the other guys want to sleep on the ground outside either, so I do one last sigh, before jumping into my bed for the night.

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.

Feel free to comment and let me know what you think of it and offer suggestions or criticisms.
