《Passive Berserker (LITRPG)》18. First Class

In everyone’s eyes, Cole’s body stiffened like a rock, and blue light covered his body. He seemed to be unconscious, and it was dangerous because the wolf was still alive despite its injury.

The wolf had a deep cut in its neck, and blood spurted out of it. Despite its injury, it glared at the unconscious Cole and growled. After that, the beast pounced at him.

“No, Cole!” Lisa shouted as the wolf bit Cole, but the beast’s sharp teeth couldn’t penetrate through Cole’s skin.

The wolf didn’t give up yet. It saw Cole’s innards and his opened belly. It dug into his belly, trying to make the hole bigger, but the beast couldn’t do that as well. The human’s whole body, even his inside, was as solid as diamond.

Lisa—who couldn’t see what happened from behind—thought the wolf managed to damage Cole. She rushed toward the beast at full speed. She felt scared Cole would die if she was too slow.

Luck was on her side for Jeff had arrived on the wolf’s side earlier than her. The old man threw a roundhouse kick at the beast’s neck, making it fall. After that, he pulled Cole’s collar, trying to save him. However, Cole didn’t flinch a bit from his spot. It was as if he was a statue cemented to the ground.

Jeff released Cole and jumped back, evading the wolf’s claw. However, the beast’s muzzle butted his stomach, pushing him away.

The beast was about to chase Jeff, but Lisa suddenly arrived at its side and stabbed its neck. The wolf, however, had sensed her presence. It had covered its body with a thin layer of ice and blocked the sword.

The wolf bodied Lisa away and channeled a blue orb in its mouth. After a while, it shot an ice ball at Jeff.

Jeff stood up, but he was too late to evade the ice ball. The ice ball hit him and exploded.

The attack, however, had triggered his passive skill. He had disappeared and reappeared on the side, evading the direct attack. Despite that, the explosion had frozen the ground along with his left foot, trapping him.

The wolf pounced at Jeff. As it was only a few centimeters before reaching the dark-skinned man, Mark suddenly slid under the beast and slit its throat.

The wolf’s armor shattered, and it bowed its head in reflection to its throat being slashed. It didn’t bite Jeff, but it clutched him into its embrace, pulling him away. As the result, the old man lost his left foot.

The wolf fell on top of Jeff, and froze the old man from his shoulders and down. The man couldn’t move, or he would shatter like glasses. It was a good chance to kill its prey, but the wolf didn’t do it. The beast realized it could die, so it stood up and ran away.

Lisa approached Jeff and knelt beside him. She looked at him in worry. “Boss, are you alright?”

“Forget about me! The wolf is dying! Chase the fu#ker!”

“I got you, boss!” Mark shouted. He was already chasing the wolf. He saw the wolf almost leave the Bullfrog’s area, so he channeled his mana into his shield, and then he threw it.

The shield passed above the frogs and hit the wolf in the head. The wolf’s body stiffened for one second. When it could move its limbs again, Mark had ridden on its nape. He stabbed the wolf and stayed on the seat as the beast jumped like a rabies rabbit.

He only lasted for several seconds before the wolf rolled on the ground and got rid of him. Mark stood up again and immediately leaped to the side, evading the wolf’s jaws.

Mark wanted to attack the wolf, but his sword was still sticking in the wolf’s nape. Luckily, his shield was lying beside him, and he picked it up.

Both Mark and the wolf stared at each other. The wolf thought Mark was not a threat without a sharp weapon, so it took a gamble to kill him in a few seconds. On the other hand, Mark thought he could kill the wolf if he targeted the open wound in its neck, so he took the gamble too.

The stares only lasted a second, and they advanced against each other. The wolf opened its jaws wide, but Mark slid under it. When he was close to the wolf’s throat, he extended his shoulder up and stabbed the wolf with his shield.

The wolf instantly fell to the ground. It shrieked in agony as blood spurted out of its nape and throat until its body became weak. After that, the wolf exhaled its last breath and died.

Mark still put his guard on even when the creature stopped moving. He could only breathe in relief when the wolf turned into mist and left floating cards.

Mark fell to his knees when the creature had disappeared. He stared into the mist and thought of his teammates. “I did it. I avenged you guys,” he said as tears were flowing out of his eyes.

Cole blinked his eyes and realized all his wounds had disappeared. He stood up feeling refreshed as if he just had a deep sleep. Furthermore, his body felt several times lighter than before. Not only that, his mind was in serenity, and he wanted to enjoy the feeling longer, but he knew he couldn’t do it because the wolf could be alive.

Cole found Lisa and Jeff not far from him, so he approached them. The old man was half-naked, and Lisa rubbed his back. He thought this situation was weird, so he asked, “What are you doing?”

Lisa’s eyes widened in shock when she saw Cole. She immediately raised her hands and explained in panic, “Cole, this isn’t what it looks like.”

“It looks like what?”

“I—the wolf froze him, so I helped the boss to warm his body.”

“Okay?” Cole ignored Lisa and inspected Jeff’s condition. Luckily, there was no visible injury on Jeff, and all his limbs were still complete. Even so, he was still worried about him. “You okay, Douchette?”

“As you can see, I am fine.”

“That’s a relief. Where is Mark, tho?”

Lisa pointed at Mark who was still crying emotionally. “He’s been like that ever since he has defeated the wolf.”

Cole’s face beamed when he heard that. “So he avenged his teammates. I am glad.”

“How about you, Cole? I thought you were… dead. Your innards were scattered everywhere,” Lisa said in a worried tone.

“I am fine. I fell unconscious, and when I woke up, my wounds were healed. I think that’s the side effect of getting a class.”

“Did you say a class? You got a class?” Jeff asked.

Cole smiled. “Yeah.”

“What is your class? Tell us about it.”

Cole laughed. “Relax, Doucette. I, too, haven’t checked about my class either.” After saying that, he summoned the system screen and looked at his information.

Cole noticed his stats increased a lot, and he gained one more passive skill. Those were good things, but the most important thing was he had a class. He clicked about the information of his class.

…….

……

As he thought, getting a class granted him a skill. Because his class was custom, he could guess that the skill was a passive skill. He clicked the Class skill info to find out his guess.

……

Class skill: 1

Name: [Ruin River]

Class/Step: Ruin Berserker/first-step

Type: Passive

Your mana flows like the rivers in the Ruin realm, increasing the chance of triggering ruin skills by 35 percent.

……

Cole’s face beamed because this passive skill was really useful in his current situation. With it, he could trigger [Ruin Flash] and [Ruin Gust] more often. He couldn’t wait to test how effective this [Ruin River] was in triggering his other ruin skills.

“What’s your class called, Cole?” Jeff asked curiously.

Cole snapped back to his sense, and he answered, “My class is called Ruin Berserker.”

“What did you get after getting a class?”

“Class skills and class stats. You can increase your class level like your unit level apparently.”

“I see. I won’t ask any further. Thanks for answering me.”

Cole felt relieved in his heart when he heard that. Luckily, Jeff knew the boundary between people. He liked them, but he still didn’t want to share them about his secrets such as he could only use passive skills. So, he was glad there was a person like Jeff who wouldn’t push him too far.

“Congrats, Cole. I am glad that you have got a class. I can’t wait to get a class too,” Lisa said.

Cole smiled at her. “You will get a class sooner or later. And, should we congratulate us? We have avenged your deceased teammates. I want to test my class immediately, but I feel like we need to go back to the base now.”

When she heard his idea, Lisa wiped the tears she had been holding. “You are so considerate, Cole. I have to admit that I feel exhausted after defeating the wolf. Can we go back to the base, boss?”

Jeff nodded and showed a rare smile. “You guys have done well today. You deserve one day off. Let’s go back to the base.”
