《Happy Ending》Chapter 42: The night before the exams

-Chris, I don’t think I can keep up… - Said the girl with a tired tone.
-C’mon, just one more time. – But the boy insisted on her to continue.
-No…I really can’t do this anymore… - Between her breaths, the girl pleaded to stop.
-You are almost there. – And the boy wasn’t going to let her go.
-But I-
-Enough with the excuses! Just do it already! – Without letting her have a rest, the boy didn’t stop.
-Noooooooooooooooo! – With a long and embarrassing scream, the girl said her last words before collapsing from exhaustion.
-Stop with the drama and continue studying, for Pete’s sake!
This happened in the living room at Chris’ house. Sitting by the center table filled with textbooks, there was the girl, who was resting her head on a book, and Chris, who was forcing her to finish the questions.
Tomorrow was the day they would have tests on his class and he wasn’t wishing to get mock exams in the case of bad grades. In order to avoid that, Chris wanted to study the moment he got at his house, but then he recalled something crucial that could also be a drawback at this point: the girl.
He was a bit nervous about letting her be alone with such a thing as a test coming by, so he did the first reasonable thing that came in his mind, which forced her to study under his surveillance. Either way, it wouldn’t be much of a difference if he didn’t do that.
When they were in class, the girl wasn’t talking to him at all, not even a tiny bit, so, at least, to his happiness, Chris thought that she had finally gained common sense, but it turns out he was wrong once again. All it took was she stepping into the house and she was stuck like glue, always at his back, following everywhere he went without taking her eyes off him.

If this continued while he was studying, Chris wouldn’t know what to do to stop the girl. So, instead of fighting her, he made the girl join him. After all, she also needed to pass the tests; otherwise, their search in the school would be delayed.
-C’mon, weren’t you happy when you hear we were studying?
-…It was because you said we would be together.
-But we are together, studying together. Now, stop complaining and finish the questions.
-Urgh… - With a dissatisfactory moan, the girl reluctant resumed writing down on the textbook in her front.
(At times like this, you really look like a normal girl.)
It was the impression Chris had when seeing her against studying. After watching the girl do so many unreal feats, the bad ones, the good ones and the ones that surprise him even now, it felt nice to know she also got a side like this.
-Don’t be like that. When we finish this, we can make dinner. How about it?
-Yay! – As if she was filled with determination, the girl became focused on the questions, quickly answering all of them.
In the past week, there were various things Chris tried to teach the girl but he also learned more about her. In one day, he discovered that one of the things she liked to do was cooking, but she wasn’t very good at it. The day he had let the girl on her own in the kitchen was one Chris didn’t want to remember.

-I thought you cooked something the first day you came here!
-Actually…mom…did it for me…to deliver to you…
-But how can be a fire in the water?!
-The wrong ingredient, I guess?
-Are you kidding me?!

It gave him chills just thinking about how he had to clean all that up before his mother came back from work. His broken shoulder at that time was hurting for the whole night afterward.

But then, it was also a good way to teach her about common sense, so instead of not allowing she to be near the kitchen ever again, the girl could use it anytime she wanted…as long Chris was there with her and she followed every order he gave.
-Here!
Right at his face, the girl was opening the book with both of her hands to show him the inside. All the questions on both pages were filled, showing no doubt she completed all of them.
-They are all answered. Nice job.
With a quick look at it, there were some, no, many mistakes here and there, but for Chris, it was worth that she gave her all to answer them. There was no need to rush things and expect her to know all of it in one try.
-See? See? Now, can we do it already?!
-I know, don’t need to shout. Let’s take a break. It’s late anyway.
Leaving those words, Chris got up from his seat and walked to the kitchen, with the girl happily following at his back with skips. They were studying for almost all the noon without resting. Although it might be harsh his ways to prepare for tomorrow, Chris wouldn’t let something like the exams obstruct them from stopping the phenomenon.
-Can we do that thing I liked?
-It takes too long to do it. Let’s go with something simple.
-But aren’t we going to stay in the kitchen?
-Don’t put your hopes too high. This is a break. We still need to study afterward, you know?
-Why?! I answered all the questions!
-In one textbook. Do your best to fill the other ones.
-Agh! This is so unfair!
-Welcome to the real world. Hahahaha!
It was already night. Like he was used to, his mother wasn’t home by the time he arrived due to her work. She would either return late or not even return until the next day, leaving the boy to live inside the house without anyone but himself. All those times he ate the dishes made with his own hands, alone at the dinner table, became common to him.
But recently, because of a certain someone in his life, this tradition in his life was beginning to change little by little. He wasn’t sure why, even though she was flipping his life who know many times over, he didn’t want her to just vanish out of his sight like she did many times in the game.
Although it was sudden and he may have wished for it happen in another way, even with all the weirdness happening in his school and many other questions floating in his mind, there was thought Chris couldn’t lie to himself right now: it was fun having someone around.

At The Precipice
Defenseless. Scared. Alone. That describes the life of Brock Carter as of late. Following his ‘death’ at the hands of a vicious magpie, Brock is rescued by the machinations of the newly instated, all-powerful System and thrust knee-deep into a brutal world catered only to the strong. Fluctuating between two states of being and trapped within a city ravaged by time, he is told to either seek out the mysterious ‘Source’, or die trying. He just hopes he can do it without scuffing his expensive suit in the process. ***** Honestly, I've just always wanted to write a story. I had a crack at it a few years back, but the entire thing fell apart before it even began. At The Precipice was originally written as a way for me to destress and play with System elements and characters, but eventually I decided that if I was gonna write, why not post it too? Writing's just a hobby of mine, so don't expect this to be at published novel level, I guess, or even anything of relative polish. Updates every Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri Average chapter length is 2000 - 3000 words ***** What to expect: - A semi-comedic/light tone, mixed in with a gritty world and brutal survival (not ever grimdark though) - An MC that thinks about what he's going to do and why he'll do it, even if his internal logic is lacking. Is a rather rational person, not often influenced by his emotions, but can be in extreme situations. - A plot heavily focused upon the MC, but one that will branch off to envelope the other characters in the world at times. Often, it's just other people's perspectives of him. - A story of power growth. While the MC is certainly going to be powerful, even over 100 chapters in from what I've written, he still isn't the strongest being on Earth, let alone the entire Multiverse. - Lots of gore, vivid fight descriptions, and often times deaths of people, some even somewhat important to the story ***** Things this story will never have: - Harems - An edgy, villainous MC - An MC that does jackshit about things for 'plot reasons'

Essentia Animus
Second Book of the Soul - Celesi Veil Trilogy When the living essence of three girls are put at risk, giving room for a second essence within themselves, even their hyper developed fantasy world might not be enough to contain their new found ambitions. Another story of another world, these three girls must adapt to their new essence, all while each is left to question if they are truly still even alive. While this story is a sequel of the previous story in the trillogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, taking place in a distant corner of a Celese returning readers will be otherwise incapable of recognizing. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for the previous book, in case that matters to anyone. This story takes place over two centuries after the events of Vitae Memorandum, when Celese had developed into an advanced world, improved to a point that it is much like modern-day Earth while still using the gift instead of technology. The Aethyx languages are still present in this book, and even English still exists in the world after the events of the previous book, but are much less of a focus after the same closing events of the previous book. What is instead important is how the ending events of the previous book had resulted in the start of the Instrumentation Era, and exactly how the gift translates in a modern-day sense. While this book is still effectively a fantasy world of its own kind of magic, it isn’t the classical medieval scene that would be typical for such a story. The laws of science still do not exist in Celese, but that didn’t stop it from developing into something that looks similar enough. Earth itself still remains present on the other side of the veil, and its previous exposure continues to shape and advance Celese into the world it has become. This story contains scenes exibiting mania and similar dark themes, as it goes to great length to explore concepts of life and death. While the degree of such themes should not be considered to be as serious compared to matters such as actual horror, the psychological depth is still siginifcant enough to be potentially concerning for people sensitive to matters of this nature, such as any individuals with concerns questioning matters of suicide, mental harm, or a variety of emotional injuries. While none of these subjects actually occur in the story, readers who are currently troubled by such matters may find themselves considering old wounds if they are especially capable of empathy while reading, which could lead to furthered emotional or mental stress. Readers with a high capacity for empathy may find themselves troubled by concerns regarding any potential lack of mental/emotional control as well as considerations regarding the meaning of death. Readers who appreciate subtle dark themes in a story may instead find this to be an interesting twist of the same idea.
