《Happy Ending》Chapter 22: A good way to start the day

It was a relaxing breakfast. Each of them started picking from one plate to another to enjoy it all of it. His mother really knew how to cook and, as always, it was delicious no matter what kind of dish they proved. Really, it was such a good way to start the day.
Sitting next to each other, the girl helped the boy without any of her reckless from yesterday, waiting patiently for him to bite the food she was holding, while he was telling her which ones he thought the girl would like and watch her reaction of happiness each time she tried one of the dishes. It was truly a relaxing breakfast.
-...Hey...I'm already full, so please, stop-
-Chris, this is for your own good. Open your mouth and shut up for a second.
-No, serious, I can't eat anymore!
Or so it was in the first five minutes. At the moment, the girl who said she wanted to help was stuffing the boy's mouth, who she promised to help, with any food she could grab at the table.
-C'mon, Chris! Just a couple more and we are finished!
She kept saying that for almost ten minutes while trying to contain the struggling boy she placed on her lap as she feeds him.
-Stop, I'm going to explode like this!
-But if I stop now, I will not be satisfied!
-Just for how long do you plan to keep doing this then?!
As to why they were like this? It all started while the girl was feeding him.

-Here, take this one.
When they began to eat, she extended one doughnut for Chris. After he had taken a bite off it, she had picked another dish without him realizing. When he wanted to drink a cup of juice, the girl already bought it for him to drink.

(You know, maybe this isn't as bad as I thought it was.)
Altho it was a bit embarrassing to have someone to feed you, especially if they were a girl of his age, deep down in his heart, Chris kinda enjoyed this type of thing. Knowing that someone is doing something for your care never made one person unhappy.
When he stopped drinking and the girl was already extending a new dish for him, Chris said without thinking how he felt.
-Thanks for doing this for me, but I think you should eat too.
It was just a small phrase to show his appreciation for what the girl was doing for him, but there was one problem with it.
-...What is..."thanks"?
She didn't know the meaning behind it. There were many times that word was mentioned before, but the girl never knew what it meant. Now, how would the boy explain it to her what is "thanks"?
-Well...
Scratching his head, Chris looked for words to describe what it meant "thanks".
-It's...something that you say when you are...glad about something.
-...Glad?
By her reaction, she also didn't know what was "glad".
-Glad is...
It's not hard to find meaning in these words, but thinking out of the blue makes your mind blank for a moment before knowing how to say it properly.
-...when you are happy about someone. You see, what I meant was: I'm happy that you are doing this for me so I thank you for it. But, in all seriousness, you also need to eat.
Picking a waffle with his hand, Chris extended it to the girl to try it out but she was with her head down while her body was trembling as she braced herself. A moment before she was fine and now she was like this.

(Is she sick?)
There were many things he didn't know about the girl, but he also didn't know if there were some side effects for her to be here. It was a possibility he couldn't overlook, seen how the girl was doing. It made him worried if anything was happening inside her.
-Hey, are you alright? Hey. Hey! C'mon, talk to me! Are you hurt?!
He tried to shake her to see if there was any reaction but nothing happened. If there was something wrong, Chris needed would need to do something but without knowing what the problem was, his hands were tied.
Getting up from his seat, the boy stood with his knees on the ground to look at her face.
-Pumpkin, are you listening to me?! Please, say something-
And then she stopped trembling as suddenly than when it started. It didn't take more than a couple of seconds, but still, Chris couldn't stop being worried about her.
-Pumpkin, what happened to you?
There was nothing wrong with her face, rather she was smiling at him, and it didn't look like she was in pain, making the boy relieved and thought it was fine, but this was when it had all began.
From the moment Chris explained what "glad" meant, the girl felt something inside of her coming from her chest area. It was similar to the ones yesterday. Not the painful ones that made her heavy but a funny sensation that made her light and energetic.
It was just like when she held him for the first time. That sensation reminded her of that one but it was something more. It was stronger, that beating from her chest was louder, and her whole body was burning like it was on fire.
With him saying that he is thankful for what she did, the girl felt...good. He said thanks means that he is glad, with him being glad means that he is happy, and he is happy because of the girl. But what was the cause of that? What triggered this event? The girl knew the answer.
(...Feeding...him...)
It was a simple action she was doing, too easy if she needed to say it clear. Grab one thing that he saw, bring it to him, see where he is looking next, and repeat. It was a really simple cycle of actions, not worth any data. But from that one simple action she did, he was happy.
The girl didn't know if she could control herself but she managed to do so with great effort. If the boy saw it again...if Chris ever saw it again, there was no way of predicting his reaction. That's why the girl needed to hold herself for now.
Still, there was one desire still burning in her mind.
(...More...more...I want it more...)
Recovering herself, the girl responded to the worried boy with a smile across her whole face.
-Don't worry, I'm fine...hey, how about trying out this one next?
