《Happy Ending》Chapter 10: Regrets of turning back

For a moment, Chris thought his brains had stopped. A blank state of mind, caused by his confusion over what was happening to him.
It was a sweet, yet inexperienced kiss the girl was giving him. Often, she would change how their lips encountered each other as if a hungry predator devouring its prey after a long hunt.
She had a pure bliss of joy on her face, while he couldn't stop having fear and shock in his eyes. Only when he was almost without air was the time she separated their mouths.
Wating for Chris to catch his breath, she couldn't stop looking at his brown-eyes, how he looked, trying to burn in her memory who is Chris Chambert to never forget on her wildest dreams.
The more she looked, the more excited she became, like a child inside a toy store, the girl wanted to see each and every part of him.
Only when she was satisfied looking at him, the girl stared at his eyes and said with pride and joy for the whole world to know:
-I won!
She hugged him, with all her strength to not let him go. Ignoring his cries of pain from her power, she continued to say:
-I won! I won! I won! I won! Not them, me! For the first time, It's me!
Tears of joy fell down her eyes as she hugs the paralyzed boy.
-Is this happiness?! Am I happy?! Hey, hey!
Grabbing him by the shoulders, she brought his face to her front and asked:
-Is this it?! Is this what they feel like, right?! We are together now, right?! Right?!
Without realizing, the girl used more strength on his shoulders than necessary, making Chris shout in pain.
-Argh!
As if waking from a trance, the girl realized what she had done, releasing the boy immediately. Without having strength on his legs, Chris falls on the ground leaning against a wall.
Looking at him hurt by her hands, the girl remembered something and calm herself down before speaking again.
-I'm sorry that I hurt you, but I just couldn't control myself when I finally caught you. I'm sorry, I really am, so please don't hate me, ok?
She pleads to the boy with a soft-spoken voice, but he couldn't even hear her from the pain of his broken left-shoulder.
Thinking her apology didn't work, the girl cleared her throat and tried once again.
-I...I mean...if you didn't run, I...no, it's my fault you are like this. I really should have thought better before acting. You were right. I'm sorry that I did that. I promise not do it anymore, so...could we please talk this out?
With a silvery voice and teary eyes, she asks Chris once again, but he was still suffering from the pain.
Taking his fault of interest on her more serious, the girl turns her back to the boy.
-...I...never did I wanted to end to be like this. When I saw you after that, I...I just...couldn't bear it. I thought it would be better this way, but I was wrong. How could I have done such a thing to the one I love the most.

Her voice becomes more fragile at each word, almost like it was fading into nothingness but she doesn't give up speaking.
-This pain that I am feeling...I wonder if I will be able to forget it. You need to understand, I didn't want to hurt you, never. And yet, look at you now, suffering because of me. I know there is no way to apologize for my actions...but, even then, I must, no, I need to ask!
When she turns back at him with a distressed face for the mistakes she did-
-I'm sorry! Could you please forgive?
The boy wasn't there anymore.

He ran away, back in the alleys the moment she turned her back to him. After being assaulted and hounded like that, there was no way a person would wait there with their aggressor.
(Shit! Why is this happening to me?!)
Still holding the broken shoulder, Chris continues to move in the alleys. Sometimes, he would look behind to see if she was following him.
(And...and that woman! Just what in the world is she?!)
All that she said, Chris discarded as if it was nonsense. At first, he was feeling curious as to why she didn't kill him, but he lost all of his curiosity the moment he saw her face.
That expression of madness, like she didn't care how to get what she wanted. That disgusting smile, like she knew there was no way to lose. Those sharp eyes, like a hunter before attacking its prey.
Just looking at it, he already knew what to call her: crazy woman.
After that, she forcefully kissed him, almost leaving Chris without air. And how she holds him. Chris had the expression her hands weren't of a human but shackles around him, locking him from any attempts of escape.
If she hadn't released him there, Chris was fearing what could have happened afterward. What he knew was: she was bad, and he needed to get out soon as possible.
-Chrriiis, where are you goooiiiing? - A soft-spoken voice calls him from behind, shocking the boy.
As he looks back, he finds a shadow running towards him. It appeared to be struggling to walk right, as it used the walls as a support to keep moving.
That was all Chris could, and needed, to saw. Fearing the worst, he continued to run along the alley.
-Wait for me, please! I wanna be near you!
He didn't respond. Escape was the only thing on his mind. Desperate for an exit, he looks around in each way possible.
-You are making this difficult for the both of us, so please quit it already!
But her voice was getting near. There wasn't time to look carefully at each of them. It was a race against the clock.
If he ran faster, his energy wouldn't last for long and she would catch up. If he tried to look more carefully, she would catch up with him. There was no time to rest. All the odds against him. The only way for him to escape was based on his luck to find a path outside the alleys.

(-There!)
And luckily, there it was. The light shined brighter at the end of a small straight alley, leading to outside.
-I'm really starting to get mad here, Chris! Give up!
With his remaining strength, he ran the path and finally could get out of the alleys. What waited for him was another street and a tall hill with a staircase in his front.
(The park!)
When he was a child, his mother would bring him to this park to play with other kids. Furthermore, it was four blocks away from his home, so he knew where he was.
Smiling for the first time in a while, Chris was feeling a bit luckier now.
-Chris, you are being a bad child now! If you don't stop, I will need to punish you later!
But there was no time to waste. She was still after him. Crossing the street, he ran to climb up the long staircase.

When the girl exited the alleys, the first thing she saw was Chris almost in the middle of the staircase, but he wasn't very stable, as he used the railings to climb up.
He was right there, in her reach, but he got away from her hands. She was naive, that couldn't happen again. Next time, for sure, the girl would make sure he wouldn't escape her.
She swiftly crossed the street like a ghost, arriving at the staircase base in almost one second. Looking up, the girl could see his back, moving away from her on each step.
But it was okay. Soon, she would catch him, and then, this sensation on her chest will go away and that good thing she felt would return. The girl was sure of this. All she needed was: him.
She started to climb up the stairs, jumping two stairs at a time on each of her steps, quickly closing the distance to the boy.
Chris was almost at the end, but she was almost catching up with him.
There he was, just one more step and she could reach him. That good feeling from before, the girl was feeling it once again. Her arm was already up to grab him when she slipped down because of the remaining snow in the stairs.
Her body fell and hit the stairs. Something was happening to her body but she didn't know what it was. All the places that touched the stairs were feeling weird and it was hard to move them.
But, the moment she looked up, all those sensations were gone. He was there, at the top of the stairs, looking down at her. What was that face he was making? It wasn't angry, nor happy, sad or scared.
What was it? There was one time she saw it, but she couldn't remember it. It was shown when that girl was worried about someone.
Why did she worried?
Because she cared.
Cared?
Cares...he cares. He cares about her. He was worried about her. Chris was worried about her.
That good sensation she felt is coming again. The girl didn't know what it was, but it makes her feel weird. So weird, she couldn't help but smile.
[][][][][]
Chris was already on the top when it happened. He heard a loud sound and looked back, finding the girl laid down on the stairs.
(Did she fell?)
It wasn't just a light fall or it wouldn't make that sound. She must have fallen pretty hard.
Even what she had done to him, Chris couldn't help but worry about her after such a fall. If she was very injured, he would at least call 191 after coming back home, but his concerns were his biggest mistake.
The moment she looked up, there were no bruises on her face. In fact, the girl just stared at him with a blank expression. There wasn't pain nor grief on her, just blankness as if she was thinking of something.
And then, the girl smiled. The most disturbing and crazy smile Chris had ever seen. It froze him. The cold night was just a harm breeze compared to what he felt from that smile.
Struggling, the girl started to crawl up the stars, like a spider on her web.
At that moment, Chris couldn't think of her as a human anymore. It was a monster.
Turning his back to her, the boy ran into the park. The area was a small playground surrounded by trees, a fine place to go in a sunny sunday with family to pass the day. But now the snow covered most of the green grounds.
Chris was trying to walk, but the thick snow didn't let him move very well. Still, he forced his way through it. Lucky for him, the girl was also appeared to have problems with the snow.
Each time she crawled, a rustling sound was made. But Chris was faster than her here, steadily gaining distance.
(C'mon...c'mon...c'mon!)
He didn't care anymore for his pain. All he wanted was to quickly reach the other side of the playground, an area without this thick snow to slow him down.
-...no...wait... - A faint voice calls him.
He couldn't hear her, all of his attention was in forcing his way through. He continued to ran and ran and ran, with each step more heavily than the other.
-...leas...ait...me...
With a final push, he arrived at the other side with a jump. Landing on the other side, the first thing Chris thought was:
(Move!)
Finally, he could run at will. He knew the way around this part. Many shortcuts and path to mislead the girl. Here, there was no way for her to catch him.
He ran through the snowed park, hearing his loud heartbeat, the cold winds of the night and the weeps of a crying girl.
