《ARC》Book 1 Chapter 98 Priestess Of Poseidon

Wind buffeted the women outside the transport ship as seawater sprayed the people inside. Wayde, the red-plumed armoured man, lost his grip on the vault door as a vicious gust of wind struck it. The Sisters of the Sea envoy delegation consisted of four women. The one who captured the most attention was an imposing woman a head taller than Noah and the boss, Both of whom were large, athletic men themselves.

The strong-looking woman's hair was arranged in a braid, and she had shaven the sides of her head. She wore a fur-lined set of System-armour while resting a large two-handed battle axe in the shape of a broken ring leisurely on her shoulder. But the reason she was so attention-grabbing wasn't her physique. It was the flames that danced upon the exposed surface of her skin. Those standing nearby could feel the heat from her, despite the wet ocean air. He got a strange feeling of deja vu when he looked at her.

Behind her was a strange woman layered in what appeared to be sleek, black-metal armour. It hugged her form, almost like a second skin. She left her face hidden behind a mask and goggles. Allowing only her lustrous black, waist-length hair to be seen falling down her back. The goggles were held on by a leather strap and contained round, tinted spectacles that radiated with blue-light from the eyes hidden behind them. The mask was a strange design, as it possessed twin respirators on either side. She held a metal staff in her hand, which was blunt at each end. There was an orange origin crystal embedded in the centre that caused the staff to shimmer with lifeforce.

The woman with the most humble appearance was their leader. Her skin glowed with soft pink-light, as did her pale hair, indicating that she was grade-three. She was the third human 1 after Roger and the boss that Noah had met who had overcome that threshold. She was garbed in simple white clothes of an alien style. They appeared to be made from the same material as Louise's new outfit. She had an ageless face, filled with wisdom and timeless beauty, reminiscent of Mister Kim's changes after advancing grades. It was likely that she was much older than she appeared.

Lastly was the woman whom Josh said that Noah would recognize. It was the vaguely familiar face of Mistress Deville. The dancer from onboard the cruise ship. She had changed after advancing to grade two. Unlike the majority of people who had opted to become more attractive or fierce, she had gone the opposite route. Her features had become plain and unremarkable, the kind of face that could hide within a crowd without drawing attention.

It's true about what the System said when I advanced to grade two. People's appearance changes to increase survival. Mistress Deville's traumatic experience with Craig must have left enough of an impact for her to wish to become unnoticeable. Hold on a second. Her lifeforce is still white. She's the first blank that I've seen, who is grade-two. Didn't Josh say that the Sisters of the Sea only accepted awakened?

"Josh, when will you be remaining with us? It'll be rare for you to leave again once you return," Mistress Deville was the first to speak. Her accent was thick and sultry.

"Once I get my Alex back," Josh replied.

"You need to accept that he's gone. I know how hard that is to do when my husband died in the Arrival," Mistress Deville said.

"It's different. The Tyrant is constantly desecrating his body to be used as a trophy. If he is gone, I can't leave until I lay him to rest. I also need to do the same for Mister Kim and rescue his granddaughter. I'd never be able to forgive myself if I left her behind. Do you recognize who I have with me? It's Noah. He's beaten Ronan before. If anyone can overthrow the Tyrant, it will be him," Josh said vehemently.

"He may have been able to once, but now he's weaker than our leader. Or even the two men behind him. They might have a chance, but the Tyrant is not alone. He has his harlot, the Seductress, and the Ice Devil," Mistress Deville said.

Her voice became noticeably filled with barely concealed hatred at the mention of the Ice Devil. Noah recalled that was now the Username for Craig, the man who had attempted to rape Mistress Deville after her husband disappeared. The leader stepped forward to interrupt Mistress Deville before she continued with a gentle hand on her back.

「There is no need to continue, Clara. They have chosen their path. We can only aid them where we can. I am Hazel, the speaker for the Sisters of the Sea. Please excuse our priestess.亅 Hazel introduced herself with a slight nod toward them.

"Good to meet you, Hazel. Priestess?" Noah asked.

「Clara, or as Josh refers to her, Mistress Deville. She is our resident priestess of Poseidon. She's invaluable at sea.亅 Hazel explained.

Before anyone could respond, the woman with the impressive physique whispered something into Hazel's ear. Clara Deville became alert as she overheard what the unknown woman said. The now-familiar symbol of Poseidon's idol formed from white-lifeforce between the priestess's brow as she suddenly became hostile toward something. Noah reacted immediately, summoning his [Six Spirit Arms] without hesitation.

"Wait! She's not attacking you! There's something big and very dangerous coming toward us. We need to hurry!" The fiery woman shouted. She pointed in a direction out at sea. There was a large ocean swell heading toward them.

"What is that?" Louise asked with a concerned expression.

"The Kraken…" Josh whispered. His eyes glowed purple as he peered beneath the tidal wave using his [Astral Vision].

「Sanctuary, we need to leave now! Dona, how long do we have until the enemy arrives?亅Hazel asked, flustered.

"Not long enough! If its target is us, we will never escape in time!" Dona replied. She was the impressive woman holding the axe.

"Well, I wish that I could say that it has been a pleasure knowing you all, but it hasn't. I'll be seeing you, or more likely I won't," Avery said as his form became ethereal.

His glowing red silhouette began walking toward the edge of the turtle, when suddenly a geyser of water slammed into the transport ship, sending it catapulting toward Avery. As it passed, the place he had been standing a moment earlier was now empty.
