《ARC》Book 1 Chapter 94 Promises

Josh jolted in surprise when everyone's attention shifted to him. Before he was able to speak, the sheepdog, Alvis, jumped in front of him, growling a warning toward the group. Orange-lifeforce illuminated his fur, similar to Roger and the boss.

『Do not approach my mistress or her charge before we meet with the Sisters of the Sea. He is under my protection until then. 』the sheepdog warned them.

「We do not intend to fight with him.亅the boss replied, attempting to alleviate the situation.

『That is not my concern. You may fight amongst yourselves afterwards, or not. If you wish to harvest the remainder of your origin crystals, you had better be fast. The sheep is almost done.』the sheepdog informed them as it sat between the two groups.

"Remainder...?" Noah's question trailed off as he became aware of Stormy the sheep grazing nearby.

The others followed his gaze toward the sheep and seemed to notice something in unison. The sheep's wool had gained an unusual glow as it nuzzled through the ashes of Noah's earlier conflict, absorbing another crystal.

"Haiyah! Uncle Joey not had mutton in a long time!" Uncle Joey angrily called out while unhitching the twin cleavers from his back to menacingly approach it.

The sheep seemed to understand his intentions as it reacted to Uncle Joey marching toward it by activating its lightning defences. He was mercilessly zapped when he got within arms reach of the sheep, sending him flying away as smoke rose from his apron. Louise crouched down to check the pulse of his smouldering unconscious form.

"He's still alive!" Louise called out.

"Alright, everyone, start collecting the crystals the sheep may have left behind. Then we will leave!" Roger commanded the crew, who spread out in search.

"Where are we going to join up with the locals?" Noah asked Josh.

"We only need to go to the harbour and send out a signal, then my ship will come to us, and we can meet the Sisters of the Sea on the other side of the island before we leave," Josh replied.

"Can I trust you once I get onboard the Airshark? My safety isn't my concern, but the others will just be going to their deaths," Noah asked.

"You have my word. My agreement with Ronan only involves bringing you to him without a fight. The rest of my crew are unaware of it. They are members of the resistance charged with bringing you to David. They would welcome more fighters, but it will be difficult to sneak a pair of grade-three Users into the Fallen Citadel without alerting Ronan," Josh answered.

"Do not break your word on this, or I will personally see to it that you never see Alex again. One way or another," Noah promised.

"Don't worry, Noah, I won't break my promise," Josh said.

A while later, the oarsmen finished their bloody harvest. They managed to salvage enough black origin crystals to give Noah a significant share. He gained one-hundred origin crystals. Ten of which were grade-two. Considering that very few of them were from the hellhounds he killed, it was more than fair.

The group was now at the docks in the ruined ocean-side village's harbour, preparing to send a signal to the waiting Airshark crew. Noah took the time to use a salvaged stainless steel kitchen knife as a mirror while he used the razor he was gifted by the boss back on the fishing trawler. This was his first shave since the apocalypse happened. He didn't know what kind of changes to expect once he was clean-shaven. He withdrew the switch-blade razor decorated with devil-fish from his [Zero-Space Dimension Ring] to begin shaving.

Noah crouched down at the edge of the water to rinse the hair from the blade as an ear-piercing howl came from the sheepdog, echoing across the island, startling birds from their roost.

"That was the signal," Josh could be heard saying in the distance.

Noah ignored the rest of their conversation to finish his shave as Uncle Joey appeared beside him. He splashed his face with water to begin furiously scrubbing black soot from his face using a frayed rag as he muttered curses in his native language under his breath. It seemed that Uncle Joey had woken up from his encounter with Stormy the sheep. Noah decided not to disturb him.

Noah began to give himself a rough haircut as he used the razor to trim his unruly locks of hair. By the time he completed his task, the Airshark was visible on the horizon. It was very similar in appearance to the ones from his vision. There was a towering, multi-story fin with windows, running the length of the ship, conspicuously rising from the deck. The top of the fin housed another deck, which acted as a lookout station. There were handrails attached to both decks.

The lower half of the ship was a modified boat hull. There were glass windows at the front and back with a shallow fin at the bottom with metal wings sprouting from the side that arched downward to act as stabilizers in the water. It looked like a spaceship from a science fiction novel and was completely silent as it flew, shimmering with blue-lifeforce. As the Airshark grew nearer, Noah noticed that it was far more extensive than he anticipated.

"I hope this is a good idea," Noah muttered uncertainly to himself.

"Hmm?" Uncle Joey looked at him questionably.

Noah waved at him to gesture not to worry about it. He looked at his reflection in the kitchen knife's blade. Aside from his rough haircut, he was extremely handsome. The type of man that would turn heads and get favourable treatment wherever he went. Satisfied, he carefully put away the shaving razor into his [Zero-Space Dimension Ring] while casually tossing the kitchen knife into the ocean with a splash.

The Airshark landed gracefully in the water to glide to a halt just outside the ruins of the dock, caused by the arrival. A short time later, Noah and Uncle Joey rejoined the group. A segment at the back of the Airshark detached to fly over to land in front of them. It was a narrow rectangular shape, the size of a small room with a flat window at the front. There was a large vault door on the side facing them.
