《ARC》Book 1 Chapter 24 Cutting It Close

"Haha, it looks like our luck may have changed, young man!" Mister Kim laughed triumphantly.
"So, that's where Sophie disappeared to. But we're not out of this yet!"
The railing had slipped further. Directly below them, the creature had retreated. The propeller was now churning up the water below the pair as the dangled suspended above.
Mister Kim and Noah watched as the yellow glow from the sea creature disappeared into the ocean's depths as it released its tentacles that were holding the boat suspended above the water.
The ferry landed back into the water with a splash as the boat dipped unsettlingly beneath the waves, extinguishing the flames which had begun on the boat before bobbing to the surface as it began to propel forwards out of the fiery ring surrounding them.
[User receives lifeforce from Omega Role for assisting in defeating unknown grade, three enemy.]
Noah felt lifeforce flow from an unknown location comparable to if he had absorbed a grade one crystal. He was both happily surprised that he gained lifeforce from his struggle, and slightly depressed that was all he earned.
The night before, Noah had witnessed the colour of the fiery-clouds changing since the world was terraformed. The raining motes of prismatic light had faded away with the disappearance of the aurora borealis as the clouds returned to their burning display, which now signified daytime.

The fire on the surface of the water behind the ferry had almost burned out. The ferry was half-submerged in places with large holes torn throughout the decks and walls, leaving the interior exposed to the elements. There was nowhere left untouched by the destruction the sea monster had wrought on the ferry.
Noah was currently sitting with his back against the wall, watching seagulls circling in the air, they were diving towards the ocean then swooping back up with fish in their beaks.

The only thing unusual was that more than half of the seabirds were almost double their peers' size with varying colours of light moving under their feathers' surface.
One of the seabirds began to dive while blue light flared through its body towards its beak, where it released an intense bolt of lightning with a loud boom startling the other circling seabirds to scatter.
The seabird was a size larger than even the biggest of the other seabirds, which appeared to defer to it.
The Giant seabird briefly disappeared beneath the waves to emerge with a huge grade one ability user hammerhead shark glowing with red light roughly between two to three meters long, struggling within the sea bird's beak. The huge shark could do nothing as it had a large scorched mark on its scales, which exposed the burnt tissue beneath it.
The huge shark attempted to release its charging ability before the seabird aggressively shook it in its beak. Interrupting whatever ability the shark was about to unleash without the strength to resist as it suffocated in the air.
He watched as a monstrously large bird of prey appeared from nowhere beside the giant seabird then snatched the huge hammerhead shark from the sea bird's mouth in its talons. A wave of purple light originated from the centre of the hawk's chest before it once again vanished.
The seabird let out a loud caw of rage and indignation as the other seabirds echoed its cry then began to fly in pursuit of the hawk, before disappearing into the distance.

The faint, almost invisible orange light that only Noah could see pulsing through the boat began to flicker a moment before the deck stopped vibrating as the engine stopped churning.
Sitting with Noah was Mister Kim with his arm wrapped over the shoulder of a relieved Su who was sobbing tears of joy while refusing to release him from her hug after she had emerged from the stairwell to find that he was still alive and well. Su let go of Mister Kim as she sat up then wiped her nose with her sleeve.

"Why did we stop?" Su asked.
"I think Sophie must have run out of stamina. We should go find out," Noah replied.
"Noah, thank you for saving my Grandpa," Su said as her eyes began to well up with tears again.
"Don't cry, Su. I'm safe now" Mister Kim wiped the tears on Su's face as Noah stood up.
"I told you that I would help him," Noah said as he awkwardly adjusted his clothes.
"Yes Noah, thank you for saving me" Mister Kim stood with Su's help then offered his hand for Noah to shake.
"What would I be if I just let you die after you saved us all?" Noah replied.
"I didn't save us, I only angered the creature when I took advantage of the fuel spilling onto it."
"It's more than anyone else was able to do, myself included."
"Miss Sophie was the one who saved us when she started the ferry engines, we should go and see how we may assist her."
"Let's go," Noah agreed.
They passed through the ferry towards the control room, which had become a labyrinth to navigate due to collapsed walls, partially submerged decking, and smouldering wreckage.
They arrived in the room where he severed the sea monster's limb to discover a handful of survivors roasting the tentacle. The tentacle was almost the size of a grown man. It was cooking over open flames built from the wreckage that had been gathered into a pile.
Two of the survivors were already eating while another carved out portions to distribute to a few others waiting with a blunt knife. The man distributing the meat was shorter than average, wearing many layers of clothes so that his body shape was indistinguishable with a woollen cap on his head and a scarf hiding his features with only his eyes revealed. Noah watched the survivors eating with a hint of revulsion at the thought of eating the unknown sea creature.
"Su quickly, let's go eat" Mister Kim hurriedly pushed Su's back towards the roasting tentacle.
They lined up behind the few hungrily waiting survivors who had tensed upon seeing Noah and Mister Kim arrive. Seeing that the ability users weren't going to take the food away from them, the survivors relaxed.
"Noah, come eat!" Su called to him from where she waited.
The shrouded man hurriedly handed both Su and Mister Kim generous portions of the sea monster's meat, before quickly cutting a piece off for Noah while looking at him questioningly.
