《Red Road》Chapter 12 - Revenge

The sun was about to rise. Today was the day of the tournament.
“Hey Robin, wake up! The tournament begins today” Kiron looked down on the sleeping Robin. “I’m awake!” Robin immediately got out of his bed. He put on some clothes, “Hey Kiron, let’s buy some food before we leave! Can’t fight with an empty stomach!” Robin said as he pointed towards his stomach.
Kiron nodded, “Alright, let’s go buy some plates with meat!” Kiron and Robin left their room, then the inn. “I’ll go to the marketplace and buy us some food. We’ll meet up at the center of the town, where the fights happen!” Robin said as he started walking in a different direction than Kiron.
…
“There’s so many people here! There’s at least one thousand people here…” Kiron had gotten used to large crowds, so it didn’t bother him as much as it did when he arrived at Taruck for the first time.
Kiron was walking around the tournament grounds, “I wonder if Douglas or Jin are here yet!” Kiron looked everywhere, but he couldn’t find them.
The tournament starts in one hour, there are 8 platforms in the center of the district. Every match up to the quarterfinals will be fought on those 8 platforms. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be shown on a much bigger platform that hasn’t been brought out yet.
Registration process ended yesterday, there are currently 428 participants. Meaning Kiron will have to fight either 8 or 9 times in order to win, depending on what number he picks. 344 people will have to fight in the first round while 84 people gets to skip the first round.
“Kiron!” Robin came up to Kiron carrying a plate with meat in each hand, “Thanks!” Kiron took the plate and started eating.
… Hours passed by
“Hey Robin, what number did you draw? I got 231, I’ll be fighting in the first round!” Kiron pulled up his note containing the number he had received. “I got 413, I won’t be fighting in the first round…” Robin wasn’t too happy with receive number 413. He wanted to fight early.
Chatter and laughter could be heard from Kiron and Robin as they spoke. Someone walked up to Kiron and Robin, “Kiron! Robin!” It was Douglas, he managed to spot Kiron and Robin in the huge crowd after looking around for a while.

Kiron and Robin turned around. “Douglas!” Kiron looked at Douglas as he spoke, but he noticed that Douglas was able to walk on his own today, “Your legs? You’re fully healed?” Kiron couldn’t understand how Douglas was able to walk on his own when his legs were broken yesterday.
Douglas started laughing, “Elder Pavong gave me a profound medicine pill! Thanks to that, my legs were able to heal in less than one hour!” Douglas patted his legs as he spoke.
“Profound medicines… Incredible!” Both Kiron and Robin were surprised upon hearing about how fast the profound medicine pill was able to heal Douglas.
Douglas looked at Kiron, “Hey Kiron, you better do well in the tournament! I’ve told Elder Pavong about you, and he said that if you do well in this tournament, he’ll invite you and Robin to the sect! Douglas continued, “If you win 3 or 4 rounds, that should be enough for him to invite you!”
Kiron and Robin stared at Douglas with a look of shock in their eyes. They’ve always wanted a chance to join a sect, and now they get the perfect opportunity?
“Douglas, tell Elder Pavong that I’ll win the entire tournament!” Kiron, having received a golden chance, was not going to let it go.
The boys talked for a while, “I’ll go back to Elder Pavong now. It should be your turn to fight soon!” Douglas started walking away, “Hey Douglas, if you see the guy who broke your legs anywhere, tell me! I won’t be able to recognize him if you don’t point him out for me!” Kiron looked at Douglas with a smile on his face as he spoke. “Will do!” Douglas appreciated the kindness Kiron was showing him.
…
“Number 230 and 231, get up on platform 5!” The announcer called out 2 numbers. It was now Kiron’s turn to fight.
Kiron walked up to the platform and looked at his opponent. Seems like his opponent is at the 4th rank of the Profound Practitioner Realm.
The opponent looked at Kiron with surprised eyes, but those eyes were replaced with a laugh shortly afterwards. It was obvious that he was looking down on Kiron. In other people’s eyes, Kiron was only 2nd rank of the Profound Practitioner Realm, but because of the Golden Dragon blood within him, his strength was comparable to someone at the 7th rank.

“That’s Kiron, right? I don’t see anything special about him…” Elder Pavong looked at Kiron from the V.I.P spectator seats as he spoke. Douglas looked at Elder Pavong, “That was my first reaction as well! Once you see him fight, you’ll be able to understand why I said his strength is incredible!” Douglas admired Kiron’s strength.
Even Jin and the other young disciples of the Burning Phoenix Sect were doubting Kiron’s strength. He might be super strong compared to others at the 2nd rank of the Profound Practitioner Realm, but against someone off the 4th rank? They just didn’t believe it. They believed that Douglas had just failed to recognize the Silver Wolves’ strength, and that Kiron was only fighting a bunch of Silver Wolves’ at the 1st and 2nd rank.
“Begin fight!” The announcer said in a loud, unrestrained voice.
Kiron started walking towards his opponent the moment the match begun, slowly. “Haha, Junior, I’ll let you have the first attack!” The opponent laughed as he looked at Kiron walking towards him.
Kiron arrived before his opponent, “You’ll let me attack first?” Kiron stared at his opponent, trying to hide his laughter. “Junior, if I were to attack you first, I wouldn’t dare show my face around the other kids in my town!”
Kiron didn’t even take a stance, he just threw his arm towards his opponent’s stomach.
*Bang*
The opponent was sent flying, landing just outside the ring. He was barely conscious! He was coughing blood as he was trying to get up on his legs.
Elder Pavong, the Burning Phoenix Sect, the Black Turtle Sect… Everyone was starting at platform 5 with shocked expressions on their faces.
“Winner… Winner is number 231, Kiron!” Even the announcer was shocked upon seeing how easily Kiron had won.
Elder Pavong was completely stunned as he stared at Kiron. “How… How was he able to win? He is clearly at the 2nd rank of the Profound Practitioner Realm!”
Douglas started laughing, “Hahaha, I told you Kiron was extraordinary!” Douglas had personally witnessed Kiron’s strength the other day, and the others simply couldn’t believe him. Douglas felt incredibly amused upon seeing the shocked expressions on everyone’s faces!
Kiron walked off the stage, then he walked past the large crowd, arriving at where Robin was standing.
He took a deep breath, feeling the calm wind blowing against him. A smile appeared on his face, his first fight against another cultivator! He had come out on top, it was a great feeling!
“Kiron! Incredible! I’m sure no one will dare underestimate you in the future!” Robin had a happy look on his face!
Everyone are staring at Kiron, even the fighters from the other platforms! Not even someone off the 6th rank can beat someone off the 4th rank as easily as he just did!
“Hey kid, what’s your name?” Behind him was a man wearing a black coat with a turtle emblem, it was the Black Turtle Sect elder who had refused to give his name earlier.
Kiron turned around and looked at the elder, “Isn’t it better to introduce yourself before asking someone to introduce themselves?” Kiron looked at the man with a frown on his face as he spoke.
Elder Pavong stared at the scene with a stunned expression on his face. Was Kiron really going to join the Black Turtle Sect? Elder Pavong started walking towards Kiron and the Black Turtle Sect elder, “Kiron isn’t going to join the Black Turtle Sect!” Douglas looked at Pavong’s back as he spoke, but Pavong didn’t stop.
“My name is Ronai, I am an elder of the Black Turtle Sect.” Ronai looked at Kiron as he spoke. Ronai then saw that Pavong was walking towards them. He was hoping to speed up the introductions so that he could ask Kiron to join the Black Turtle Sect.
“A rude old man like you wants to know my name? Forget it.” Kiron then turned around and started walking away together with Robin.

The boy who fell in love with a tree
This is a story about a boy who fell in love with a tree… A story about powerful people changing the rulebook to stack the odds and line their pockets… I aim to create a story that will transport us so we get a glimpse of what that boy felt. The first 4 Chapters might be classified as a prologue depending on how you look at it. The boy quickly grows and the story really starts when the System arrives on Earth. I’m trying to achieve a relatively slow power progression and guide what we learn at a pace following the people in the story. There will be fighting but It’s more focused on base building. The MC is not all-powerful and all-knowing but he has some significant advantages. I’m trying to create a universe that makes sense in its own context. Much of what you will find, are my own world views, in a magnified way, as to make it for interesting fiction. The story took a life of its own when I started to write and I’m really happy with it. Not all of the tags I have marked will immediately be applied. There is stuff planned for far in the future such as the Sci-fi tag. There might be some cursing and gore but it is not very often. -------------- English is not my primary language, so I ask everyone to be forgiving. If you see a glaring error I would appreciate a msg but it is not feasible to fix everything. And if the story offends you, I wish you happiness, reading what you enjoy. ------------- Img link: https://unsplash.com/photos/EwKXn5CapA4
