Someone's POV

The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was her eye, her clear blue eyes, then I saw her chubby face with blonde wispy hair. She was only an infant but she was the first one to find me and she was also the one who gave me my name, Crystal.

Next, I was introduced to her parent which is how I learned of her name, Anabelle. Her parent panicked when they saw Anabelle walk in with me and she told them where she found me. Apparently, my mother had stumbled into their garden in the middle of the wood before giving birth to me and dying.

While I didn't understand at the time, I would've surely died if it wasn't for Annabelle. I'm forever grateful to her and her parent who accepted me into their home.

We lived in a cabin in the wood, and while we were pretty isolated, we had each other so we were never lonely.

As the year passes by, I witnessed Annabelle's growth. I saw her hair go from wispy blond to straight blond, to brown. I saw the baby fat slowly disappear as she turned 10, while I turned 9. It was just a couple of months after that it happened.

Annabelle and I were sleeping when she suddenly flashed in a bluish light which woke me up. We later found out that it was caused by her awakening.

Annabelle was one of the first people to awaken on earth and she even had an epic skill, Beast tamer.

At first, Annabelle's parents thought of it as a bad joke and told Annabelle to never use it but after a year, beasts started attacking which causes us to flee.

We started living in the city but because of the start of the tutorial, the city was full. Luckily, we had family members with a big enough house so we started living there.

Money was never an issue since the dad had a decent job as a ranger for the park next to where we lived and the mom had inherited a large sum after her parent's death but the relocation to the city caused dad to no longer have a job so while we were fine for a few years and when Annabelle turned 16, the funds had run out.

Annabelle had grown into a beautiful young woman. She was adventurous and without fear. She always wanted to go hunt and level up ever since it became a thing but she was too young. She uses the excuse of gaining money and that she already had a few levels from her non-combat job as a student to get permission to try hunting monsters.

At that time, hunting in itself wasn't profitable, there weren't a lot of strong monsters and nobody knew what to do with the remains but they were still very much a threat and while not strong, they were numerous. That pushed the government to give incentives to awakened people, and that's how Annabelle started hunting, with me by her side.

I had already past my expected life expectancy by a few years but instead of growing older and weaker, I was becoming more intelligent and stronger. We later learn that it was because of the ambient mana affecting animals differently than humans but because I was always with someone with the beast tamer skill, I didn't go feral. I became Annabelle's first contracted beast which gave us a link that let us understand each other through emotion.

The growth of a tame beast is reliant on its race, the level of the skill, and the connection to its owner. While I wasn't a strong race and the skill was only level one, Annabelle and I had a strong connection so my growth was fast.

As the year go by, Annabelle finally turned 25 and I attained my first 100 level and evolved into a rare beast. Monster leveling speed depends on their rank, so as a common beast, I earned exp around 25% faster than human and I was even faster since I was assisted by the beast tamer skill.

When a monster hit level 100, it can choose between evolving to a new superior race and starting anew at level one or continuing leveling up in hope of a better evolutionary choice. Evolving means going back to level one and losing 90% of your stat but after that, you gain more stat each time you level up, but it also takes 30% more exp to level up each rank-up. Since rank-up monsters keep some of their previous rank stats, a rank-up monster is always stronger than its natural equivalent in every way, whether that be experience, skill, or stats.

5 years later, Annabelle, hit levels 100. At this point, we had become celebrities known around the world. We got offers from countries all around to help them against monsters which Annabelle used as an excuse to visit around the world.

We had a wonderful time together and even though Annabelle gained the ability to add a new tame beast at levels 25 and 50 of the beast tamer skill, she never did. It was just the two of us.

In 2030, so when Annabelle was 40, I hit my second rank up while she hit level 160. Even though I was the equivalent to level 200, a level 160 hunter like her still was stronger.

The biggest benefit I benefited from being her tamed beast was the higher acquisition of skills. There is 2 way to gain skill, training or skill card, also, humans take around half the time a monster does to learn any given skill except for the basic like mana control, that you need for creating any skill. Since there is no skill card for monsters I was obligated to train but I had the human rate of training

Nowadays, not a lot of people train for acquiring skills since skill card supply keeps going up and you need a lot of dedication to even the weakest skill since you need to learn mana control.

As a monster, I was naturally more adept at controlling mana than humans so using this perk I gained quite a few skills, even if I still couldn't compare to the number of skills the average level 160 hunters had.

It happened in 2040. While patrolling the woods together, Annabelle stumbled on a newborn beast, a simple gray wolf. She decided to take it home and raise it. That day was the day when my perfect life alone with Annabelle was destroyed.

She names the wolf Amaruq and shifts all her attention to him. She made him his second tamed beast and started bringing him to hunt with us.

Annabelle wanted me to treat him like a little brother but I couldn't help it, I hated him. He was a pest that lodged itself between us.

After 5 years, I had softened up to him, and to boot, all three of us were close to a milestone. I was close to my third rank-up while Amaruq was close to its first, and finally, Annabelle was level 198.

Since we were all so close, we decided to do a hunting marathon to push ourselves up the threshold and it went great, at first. Amaruq was the first to rank up and he became a thunder wolf. Since he lost the majority of his stat because of the rank-up, we were planning to bring him back home while we challenged ourselves but on the way back we were attacked by a hydra, A legendary monster with high regenerative capabilities and seven heads.

It wasn't our first legendary monster but this time we had to protect the weak Amaruq so we were at a disadvantage. after a long battle, we managed to bring it to the brink of death. Judging the fight over, Amaruq ran out of cover to help finish the fight but the hydra hadn't used all it had and launched one last attack, he fused all its remaining heads and fired a beam of destructive force straight at Amaruq. Annabelle jumped before him and took the blow head-on while I finished the now exhausted hydra which pushed me up to level 100.

After joining back Amaruq and Annabelle what I saw wasn't the bruised and battered but still alive Annabelle but one with a sickly white skin and black vein. the beam was also containing a powerful venom, which now that I think about it doesn't really make sense that a beam could be poisonous but it happened so, magic.

That day was the worst day of my life. I couldn't do anything as I saw Annabelle slowly dying before me. The city was too far for me to bring her fast enough and all the antidotes were stocked up in her item box skill. She wasn't even conscious as she slowly but surely dies.

Annabelle was dead. Dead. Gone. All because this pest couldn't just wait patiently.

Amaruq was weeping by her side with me but my sadness slowly transformed into rage towards him. If it wasn't for him, Annabelle would still be alive. When I saw him lick her face, I just cracked and send him flying and he didn't come back. I was now alone with her corpse.

After a few days of weeping, I buried her at the now ruins of the forest home where she first found me. I also had collected all the items that dropped out of her skill at her death and then decided on my rank-up. With this rank up, I would become a legendary monster and I could become a powerful being like the hydra but instead, I chose the one that only appeared because of Annabelle. I went to sleep and when I woke up, I put on Annabelle's favorite dress before going into the forest

Amaruq's POV

My name is Amaruq. the day I caused our master's death, sister Crystal attacked me in her rage. I survived the attack and wanted to go back to my master's side but sensing my sister's rage, I could do nothing but leave. After a couple of years, I had found myself a pack and had a rare beast and a rank-up one at that, I quickly became the alpha which gave me another slight boost to my status.

I was living a calm life trying to stay away from the human when my sister's found me. At first, I thought we could reconcile but her anger wasn't gone and when she saw my new family, she kill them all and then said to me.

¨You killed my family, so it's normal that I kill yours¨

She left me broken and alone. I was desperate and enraged, I wanted revenge. but sister was too strong for me and I could only flee. After meandering for about a year, I came back to my cave only to find another wolf in it, but it wasn't exactly a wolf. It was half-wolf half-human, It was the first time I saw such a race so I first approached with caution while bearing my fang when she started talking to me

¨Hello?¨

Well, at least it wasn't here to hurt me. I barked to return her greeting and to try and ask what it was

¨My name is Natasha Smith and I'm a werewolf. I was fighting some War orcs but lost and nearly died so I ran and use your cave to mask my odor so they couldn't follow me.¨

So she is a werewolf? Don't know what it is but since there is the word wolf in it she must be close to being a wolf. Since she went to hide here that must mean the orc she fought was close so I decided to go and kill it now before it cause trouble. I barked once and went to kill it

I came back later and offered to eat it together. I saw that her legs were broken and since I hadn't had company for so long, I decided to take care of her for now. I woke her up in the morning and offered to escort her to her home

After dropping her home she invited me to stay with her. It was an offer that I couldn't refuse. I was alone for almost a year and truth be told, she is very beautiful, even with her human proportion. I couldn't help but want her as a mate, but I knew human mentality when it comes to those kinds of things so I need to bind my time.

After a few days of living together, I was sure that she also was attracted but I refused to make a move because of her broken leg. But then, a group of humans came and took her somewhere. I have a rule of not harming humans first so I decided to follow first and when she came out she handed me a note to give to her mate.

I was a little disappointed she already had a mate but I knew that she was a leader so she couldn't only have one. After following her scent, I managed to deliver the note and then came back to the cave. it's been a few days since then and she still wasn't back. I was starting to worry when I finally picked up her scent in the air.

Natasha was home.
