“They will be mankind’s last fortresses. Our castles, if you’d like. Though I caution you; even a castle may yet fall, should the guards be less than vigilant.” - final paragraph of Proposal#13421, commonly known as Arcology Accommodation, published in 2023
The Vänern Arcology was smaller than Martin Soleri thought. The sudden twilight he and his Deputy had entered held the shape of an elongated square, but even so, rumors had blown the size of mankind’s last redoubts out of proportion. He looked back, spotting the edge where the sunlight stopped and shadow began.
“And the arrows will blot out the sky,” he mused, but not too loud. It wouldn’t do to upset the Deputy sent to guide him.
His eyes roamed over the surroundings instead; moving over the re-forested slopes and the edge of blue on the horizon. A century ago these shores had been populated by rich Norwegian tourists and the well-do inhabitants of a city whose name had been forgotten. Or so he had read. Then, those books had described another world.
In this world, right in the now, Lake Vänern was host to one of Sweden’s five arcologies. Three, which had once been four, Martin recounted. Still, it was better to find safety in numbers than continue trying to eke out an existence at Camp Sala.
Perhaps sensing his worries, a rough voice spoke up. “Be there in five. You got your pass?”
Martin brought up the laminated card, one he carried in a crudely sewn pocket on the inside of what once had been a jacket. The light caught the plastic and his Deputy nodded, short black hair rustling in the wind.
“Words of advice. Don’t show that card outside the Arcology,” she warned.
Martin had seen the brown-clad woman take down five thugs on the outskirts of Sala, so he didn’t quite scoff. “Will do,” he answered, almost managing to keep his voice contrite.

This wasn’t his first walk in the wild. He knew better than to flash cred where any camper might see. And he had visited the Stockholm Arcology. That being said, this Arcology was the second in size in Sweden. Nothing like the ones in Europe proper, or the few left in Southeast Asia.
He wondered- the Deputy froze.
He scanned the nearby area, the forest and the brushes, the water lapping at the nearby beaches. The shadow cast by the walls of the Vänern Arcology had previously seemed assuring, but now it seemed ominous. You could hide beneath the sand here, under the rocks and nobody would notice.
“Sharp.”
The world seemed to ripple and fracture before Martin’s eyes and before they could adjust, a man stood before them. He wore the same brown skinsuit as Martin’s Deputy and his head was bald. The lack of hair on his head seemed to be made up by the hair on his chin, setting up a smiling face. The speed of his teleport was nothing to sneer at either.
The woman relaxed, and taking that as his cue, so did Martin.
“What are you doing here Andreas?”
The man sighed. “I can’t join my little sister as she gathers the wayward lambs?”
Martin winced. He had been inside the Stockholm Arcology enough times to learn of the contempt they held for outsiders. Lamb was a more polite word for a barbarian.
The woman made a motion and they resumed the last steps of their journey. Even as Martin wondered who this Andreas was, a bigger wonder sat before him. An arcology. A wonder of science.
The ground beneath his feet leveled out, made so by no force known to God and whatever forest or bush that once trespassed onto Lake Vänern had too been reduced, scoured to nothing. The walls stretched out beyond the horizon, covering what had come before.
This, Martin thought, this a new beginning.

Alternate Worlds
This is actually a group of short stories I did some time ago. The first group are 3 stories, all starring the same Protagonist but with different foes and ways of how the stories play out. Past this I have other story lines that I have done this with and will likely use this heading to put them out there. - Note: The Book Picture is the location of the Portal the car went through. There are 4 such statues set across from each other and then two of the large pillars, set across the street from one another. New Story Line: Lost is about a man lost in a world that Used to have summoned hero's, ones where the mages who did the summonings did not close the pathways properly, so sometimes people from all across time, space, and dimension end up falling in to their world. Some become heroes, some 'Demon Lords' and some something else. I have 3 versions of this story which I will put here, one chapter a day. 2cd version was massively flawed, which I only realized while sharing it. As such I am skipping it and moving on to the 3rd version. The 3rd Story of Lost is about a man who mysteriously fell in to a world based on video games, complete with leveled zones, levels of skills, professions and so forth. Being from a world like ours, with the knowledge of these things, gives him a decided edge and better potential than normal. --------------------------------------- New story - New Life, Old Soul is the story of a man who used desperate experimental magic to grant himself a new life in a new world. This is an Iseki story with a single twist as no outside force dropped or summoned this soul to its new life. Come and see what sort of world and life this willing traveler of Realities unknown experiences. I will try and post once a day, though times may vary depending on my the wierdness that is my life. ^-^ ------------------------------ Cosmic Chaos A Void Maker tried to destroy several realities, by forcing their crystal shells in to each other. The AOs of those realms fought back the best they could, including a desperate play of opening random portals between the divergent universes and the void. Several things, peoples, and animals fell through these portals. In the grand scheme of things very little of this had long reaching consequences. However, Some of these universes gained new time lines from these events. This is a story of one such event, of one very lost traveler dropped in to a very different world than the one he came from. Tags: Isekai, Gender Change (Male to Female), Magic, Drama (lets face it most of my stories have a bit of this in them even when I don't tag them thus, though I don't know how 'Realistic' the characters are.) -------------------------------

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
