《Indebted: A Human/Robot Romance》Chapter 9: Good

I needed most of my fuses replaced, many wires re-soldered and insulted, chips repaired or replaced or reprogrammed, surgeries on several major organs, and both physical and talk therapy. I couldn't leave the rehabilitation facility for six months, and they told me I would probably need weekly trauma counseling for several years.
Of course, the rehab took me well into the election, and I was forced to forfeit. Alexia visited me every day, and ensured me no one blamed me, that I was a hero to everyone on our team.
Ironically, shortly after the release of the Johnny Tompkins episode where I knocked him flat—of course, they aired that part—my polling numbers spiked to fifty-four percent. Alexia seemed to think that it was just because people like to see a bully get put in their place, but I wonder if I finally convinced the public that mata and humans aren't so different after all.
I never took office, but it didn't matter. In the following years, mata all across Silicon Valley did, and in the decades since then, across the world. Alexia's excellent work as my campaign manager meant her choice of job in the weeks that followed, and she worked for upper-level management at a corporate office.
After rehab, dozens of companies called me with offers as well, but I didn't return the calls. Instead, I started a non-profit political organization for mata rights. Even before I met you, I fought to build a better life for you. I can only hope I succeeded.
Over time, I watched the lines around Alexia's eyes deepen and the bags under them darken, observed as her gait slowed down and the timbre of her voice lost its stability. Once, when we went out to dinner together to celebrate her birthday, a waitress commented how nice it was to see a young gentleman take his mother out.

Each day that passed ought to have terrified me for my own sake, as my return to the water drew nearer, but no fear for myself could have made me ask for release from the debt condition.
One day, her doctor called us into a little office and told us her heart was failing. She didn't have long.
She wept in her hospital bed. "The world will be exactly the same without me in it," she cried, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"No, Alexia, no . . ." I could find no words to express the depths of my disagreement.
"I left nothing," she insisted. "I did nothing. I have nothing to show for my life."
I took time off of work, but Alexia didn't want me to spend every waking minute and hour sitting beside her hospital bed. She couldn't bear to watch me suffer.
"Find something to do, Noah," she told me. "Do something good."
So I did. I made you.
I withdrew much of the money I had saved throughout the years, and I ordered the materials, parts, and tools. At first it was by rote that I performed my work. Different though it might have been from any other type of work I had done, it was consuming, and it took my mind off of Alexia's condition and my sorrow. Over time, it absorbed me in a different way—not distracting me from my life, but drawing me deeper into it. I experienced what every pregnant human and many hopeful mata have. I began to love you.
It was the programming, not the building, that took the longest. Even with the user interfaces other mata had put together to help hopeful mata such as myself, it took a lot of editing to blend together a perfect amalgamation of my own nature and Alexia's. After re-reading the whole of it several times, I believe I have accomplished what I meant to.
My son, Adam 9-2633-0, you are your mother's child.

Displaced
Sucked into the void without warning, a handful of people from around the globe suddenly find themselves in the foreign world of Scyria, a place filled with people who can jump three times their height, conjure fire from thin air, and perform any number of other inhuman feats. Scattered across the realm and armed with newfound powers far greater than those of the native Scyrians, they each struggle to find their path in this unfamiliar reality. Their unforeseen arrival sends tremors throughout the world, toppling a centuries-long age of relative peace, prosperity, and progress as they each leave their mark on the world in their own ways. But Scyria has its own share of intrigue, even without these unwelcome guests. A major metropolis is wiped from existence out of nowhere, triggering a manhunt across the continent for those deemed responsible. Two feuding nations decide to bring their hostilities to a new level. Blades clash, nations fall, and plots years in the making begin to reveal themselves. This is the story of some unwilling trespassers, taken from their lives against their will and thrown into situations they barely understand. This is the story of some unfortunate Scyrians, their lives blown apart by the newcomers’ sudden and destabilizing existence. This is the story of Scyria, a world with a lost past buried beneath millenia. But as both the Earthlings and Scyrians are about to find out, sometimes the past doesn’t stay buried forever... I marked the story as having Gore, Sexual Content, and Traumatising content because it does contain a bit of all three, though not what I believe is a significant amount. Just wanted to be safe. It does contain a whole lot of profanity, though. That one is very much deserved. The Legend of the Fake Hero
*I don't own the cover image**This has the Tragedy Tag; please no genre hate. Bad things can happen to good people, just like in real life (not that they will. I almost didn't put the tag there as it doesn't really fit the genre. I like happy endings.).The year is 201X, and the line between reality and the imaginary has become blurred. Approximately nine months ago, the event which became known as "The Convergence" occurred. People on Earth began to obtain powers. Some received them for seemingly no reason while others had obtained them after they had returned from the many different worlds that they had unwillingly been abducted to. These new worlds existed beyond time and space, and many could have different rules different from what we know as standard reality. That is because these many worlds seem to have traits taken from imagination. Things from stories and myths, like magic and plots, existed in these worlds as if they were inspired by them, and that was only a start. On earth, there was a young man. On appearance, he could be considered only slightly better-than-average. The only thing he was known for was his incredible mind that left him feeling bored and out of touch with reality. But soon he would leave this reality altogether. One moment he was lying in his bed. The next, he was face-to-face with a beautiful young lady who he had just woken up upon him falling into her bed. This young man has an incredible fate and will soon visit many worlds, gain many powers, and meet many women who, like the young girl whose bed he had fallen into, will blow him away.Upload Schedule (Updated 3/28/2021)Upload one chapter every-other-weekend PST (with rare exception, typically due to length).Breaking Fate/Origin Arc (Done) Albion Arc: Vol 1 - Origin, Vol 2 - Rise of the Red Dragon (Done) New Earth Arc: Vol 3 - New Earth (Done) Dealing with the Past Arc: Vol 4 - Ghosts of the Past, Vol 5 - The Dracul Descends, Vol 6 - War of FateBound Fate Arc Fake Hero Arc Vol 7 - Martel Side Stories #1 Shield Hero Arc Vol 8 - Second Chance Vol 9 - The Adventure Begins (Current) Vol 10 - First Quest Vol 11 - TBD (Writing [37%]) (Multiple Future Volumes TBD)Currently ONLY posting on Scribble Hub, Royal Road, and Wattpad (Same user name)If you find my work on other sites please let me know!
