《Art of Mortality》Chapter 45: Origin of the Uncrossable Forest

As Edward and Robert moved forward in the forest, they did not come across any more hindrance for quite a long time. They kept going and going.
"It's so quiet once again. No sign of trouble or anything. Only if this was the true face of the forest, ah.", Robert commented with a sigh.
"You wish. This is the uncrossable forest after all. Judging by how many times the color-changing paper changed its color, we have ventured for about two weeks. I believe we haven't even crossed five percent of the forest area.", Edward said.
"Just how large is the forest?", Robert wondered.
"No idea, but I believe it is not as large as people think it to be.", Edward said.
"Why do you think that?"
"If it really spans for millions of miles as the myth says, then how large do you think this planet has to be? I don't think the planet is that big. Planets can't be that big. Actually, I once measured our planet's diameter. I know it isn't that big."
"How did you do that?", Robert was amazed.
"Using a meter stick, the sunlight, shadow, and geometry, also with the help of some information from geography books. It's a complex mathematical process, you wouldn't understand if I told you.", Edward said.
"How did you figure out all this?"
"On my own. I was reading books on ancient geometry and geography when came up with the idea. But I believe that expert scholars of this world might already know this method. Although there is no record in this country, I can't say the same for the Four Great Empires or the Twelve Zodiac Clans."
"So. What was the result?"
"The planet is quite big. It is about half a million miles. Which means that the circumference is around 3 million miles. I can't see this forest really being a million mile long, taking one-third of the planet's circumference. If it was the surface area, I would've understood, as the planet's surface area is insanely large. Also, from my memories as the First Paragon, I vaguely remember flying across the whole planet, but I don't remember seeing a forest that large. Unless...", Edward suddenly became silent as he thought of something.

"Unless what?", Robert asked.
"Let's take a break here. there is something I need to check.", Edward declared.
"What is it?"
"I will tell you later. Just sit here and keep cultivating for now.", Edward replied.
"Ok."
Robert sat under a tree in deep meditation and started cultivating. He was close to breaking through to the Eighth Level of the Body Metamorphosis Realm. So, he prepared for a breakthrough in this cultivation session.
While Robert cultivated, Edward was checking the trees of the forest, as if he was investigating something. After checking a few trees, he also sat in meditation.
Deep in his mind, within an infinite dark space, a green light was shining. Edward dived towards the source of the green light. As soon as he reached there, he could see it. It was the Seed of Origin Life.
Edward connected his mind with the Seed of Origin Life, trying to see through its profoundness. He tried to see as much as he could, but he barely saw anything.
"The vigorous lifeforce within all these trees reminds me of the Seed of Origin Life. I guess my doubt is true. But still, something feels different about it.", Edward murmured.
Edward focused his mind, trying to connect his mind to the Seed of Origin Life once again.
As his mind connected to the seed, he saw scenes, flashbacks to be exact.
The First Paragon, at the peak of his cultivation, after conquering the multiverse, returned to the nine paragon world once again. After his return, he first went to visit the Lake of Tears. He sat there gazing at the lake for days after days. He cried, he laughed, he smiled, he shouted in anger and regret, he jumped in joy and hope. All kinds of thoughts and memories were roaming across his mind. He brought out a key from deep within his soul. Finally, he used all of his cultivation and every bit of power, turning them into a kind of secret energy to merge it with the key, and in the end, he condensed the key it into a single seed. That was the Seed of Origin Life. The Seed of Origin life was some kind of key, born from the First Paragon's Cultivation and Soul. As for what kind of key it was, no one knew.

Finally, he walked past the Lake of Tears and came to the tulip village, the village he was born in. After reminiscing for a while in the village, he came to a vast empty land in the southern part of the village. It was where the Uncrossable Forest currently was. Back then, there was no forest there. As the FIrst Paragon chose to give up his remaining life force to die and enter the cycle of reincarnation, his remaining lifeforce, along with his dead body, turned into a vast, majestic forest. This was how the uncrossable forest came to be.
Suddenly, Edward saw himself in front of him, his past self to be exact. The First Paragon.
"You're trying to check on this forest? Do you want to cross it?", asked The First Paragon.
"Why? Is it really uncrossable.", Edward said in a mocking tone.
"Not for everyone, but your time has not come yet."
"Why?"
"This Forest is a crucial piece of the scheme. This is where I am buried, and at the End of the forest is where all the secret lies. Others only reach the Central Continent when they cross the forest, but you, you will end up in a different place if you try to cross it. You're heading the wrong way. After you pass halfway through the forest, you will find two paths. The others always see one path, so they don't know. Only you can see the second path. Cross the first path and you will reach the Central Continent, Cross the second path, you will reach our tomb, where all the answer lies. But the current you are not strong enough to cross either of the two paths."
"The Central Continent?", Edward asked.
"Yes. This planet has five continents. Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern Continent are known to most, but very few know of the existence of the Grand Central Continent. There, you will find the Overlord's Domain."
"Overlord's Domain?"
"That is the place ruled by the Twelve Zodiac Clans. I know you plan to go there. A part of me lives inside your soul."
"How do I go there?", Edward asked.
"For now you can't. Right now, the Green Veil Country you are in is in the northern continent, ruled by the Grand Sky Empire. The other three Great Empires rule the other three continents. The only way you can reach the Central Continent from the Northern Continent is by heading south, which means the Uncrossable Forest is the only way. Back in my time, this forest wasn't there. This forest was created to hide our secrets of the Grand Scheme, as well as to hinder you from reaching the Central Continent before the Final Act."
"Why the hell would you do that?", Edward was frustrated.
"It was all part of your plan."
"Me or you, What difference does it make?"
"There is a difference, you will know soon.", the First Paragon said.
"Anyway, all you need is patience. Come back after reaching the Spiritual Phantom realm. Only then you will be strong enough to cross the forest.", he then said.
"I was planning to do that in the first place. This time I only came to investigate."
"I know. That's why I showed in front of you this time when you connected with the seed."
"You know, your voice is different from the other voice I heard back in the Academy Selection Exams when I was about to die. Do you have any idea who he is and why I hear his voice from within me."
"As I've said before, everything will unravel in due time."
"I knew you would say that. Well, forget it."
"Good that you understand. When the time comes, you will be the one to understand the most, as you are the one scheming, not me.", the First Paragon faded away as he said that.

Rise of the First Necromancer
Asrael Nessarat awakes on a sandy dune with a mouthful of sand and nothing but tattered rags in his posession. As the High Magus of the school of Necromancy, he once aspired to prove to the Emperor that magic still held a place in their society. But that day came, passed and inevitably accelerated his kind's downfall. Now; they are hunted, strung up and burned on pyres throughout the Empire by the Emperor's holy Inquisition- an efficient and ruthless army hell-bent on bleeding every last droplet of magic from the lands. With nothing but a mouthful of sand and tattered rags; Asrael is determined to seek the one thing his cold, still heart desires. Vengeance. This story can, at times, get very dark. It is not recommended for the faint of heart. This is not a story of an overtly powerful wizard who can pulverize his enemies from across the world, nor is it in any way, shape or form a joyous tale. We follow Asrael as he and his companions explore and seek to change an unjust world, where kindness and acceptance are exceptions, rather than the rule. If you are looking for a story to inspire hope or joy, this is not it. If you wish to read about likeable, heroic people, turn around. If you wish to see good battle evil, where the cut in between is clear, then this is not for you.
