《Art of Mortality》Chapter 30: Hexagon Dash and Great Eruption Art

As soon as the door opened, both Edward and Old Summer entered the room. It was a small room, and there was only a single bookshelf in the middle of the room. There were only a few cultivation books in that bookshelf.
"This is where the best legacy arts of our academy are kept. There are only a few arts here, but all of them are the best within the low tier.", said Old Summer.
"Low tier?"
"Well, martial arts techniques are categorized into three tiers: low, mid, and high tier. Low tier techniques are meant to be used by those below the Qi Accumulation realm. From the Qi Accumulation realm to the Aura Formation realm, cultivators depend more on mid-tier techniques, as using low-tier techniques can not bring out the full power of those realms. Cultivators beyond the Aura Formation realm use high tier techniques, but those are too distant and like myths to us. In all my lifetime, I have not even gained access to a mid-tier technique, let alone a high tier one. Although the techniques here are low-tier, they are the best among the low tier, and most suitable for your current level.", Old Summer explained.
"Hmm. Ok then. I guess I can find a suitable cultivation art and a movement technique here.", Edward decided.
Edward started checking the technique manuals one by one. There weren't many of those in that small bookshelf, so he was able to check through all of them very quickly.
Edward selected a cultivation technique and a movement technique from the bookshelf.
The movement technique was called 'Hexagon Dash'. It is a technique that gives a sudden burst of speed to move like a dash. The technic ahs six layers, each layer containing a single dash. The higher the layer one reaches while learning the technique, the faster the speed he gets. Finally, when one has mastered all six layers, one can move at a dashing speed with six levels of speed outburst, moving in a hexagonal pattern with tremendous speed.

Edward chose this technique because he decided that instead of using other techniques to move faster than normal continuously at a certain speed, it would be more effective for him to use sudden outbursts of extreme speed to swiftly finish off his enemies, and as his weapon of choice would be a pair of heavy axes. He didn't need to bother with normal movement speed as he is quite fast while moving at his normal speed anyway.
The cultivation technique he chose was called 'Great Eruption Art'. the Great Eruption Art is a cultivation art that creates eruptive nature in one's Physical Essence. When that eruptive nature is controlled properly, this technique can let the user have better control of their physical essence output and usage. One can suddenly decrease the physical essence output when necessary, and also increase it in a sudden outburst to quickly finish off their enemy. This art has three levels. The first level is called 'Outburst'. Mastering this level lets the cultivator suddenly have an outburst of physical essence right at the moment of their attack. After the attack is delivered, the physical essence output returns to even below normal. this way, the user of this technique can have incredible attack power beyond their level while conserving their limited amount of physical energy.
The second level of this technique is called 'Mountain'. This level is exactly the opposite of the first level. Instead of the moment of attack, the physical energy output instantly goes insanely high right at the moment of defense. This way, it protects the user of this technic from sudden powerful attacks.
The Third Level is called 'The Great Eruption'. At this level, the user of this technique can unleash all the previously conserved physical essence like a volcanic eruption from their entire body. For a limited amount of time, the attack, defense, stamina, and speed of the user become absurdly high to the point that every bit of their strength is used constantly every second, and the cultivator becomes a devastating disaster. This level is the final trump card of this technique, and it's meant to be used in cases of emergency. Although it is painful and a burden on the body, the more the user uses this level, the more he becomes used to it.

Edward selected the 'Hexagon Dash' and 'Great Eruption Art' because these two technics suited his heavy-handed and brutal fighting style.
When Old Summer saw the techniques Edward chose, he shook his head.
"These two techniques here are the wildest ones. Every single person who came here had a lot of trouble even trying to learn these two techniques. Very few in the history of this academy has managed to barely learn the Hexagon Dash, but the Great Eruption Art? That's a whole different level. No one succeeded in learning that till now. I guess only someone with your wild and reckless fighting style can learn this technique. Do your best.", said Old Summer.
"I will. And if a technique is easy to learn, it is not worth learning.", Edward said with confidence. "Well, I'm done finding techniques. Shall we leave now?", he asked.
"Yes, let's go."
Soon, they left the room, walked out of the passageway, and returned to the main library room. Edward bid farewell to Old Summer and left the room. He started walking towards the living quarters. It was already late at night.
"I have to go to the weapons hall and get a pair of heavy axes tomorrow.", he said to himself.
From tomorrow, Edward will begin training on the arts he selected today. Once he has mastered all those techniques, his strength will take another leap, and he will be one step closer to reaching Snow.
With determination in his eyes, Edward walked into his room.
