《Art of Mortality》Chapter 17: The Hunt Begins

Before they entered the forest, everyone was handed a manual. The manual contained a map of the forest and descriptions of the varieties of beasts inside the forests as well as some instructions.
"So, 10 points for hunting beasts belonging to level five or below, 20 points for hunting each level six beast, 50 points for level seven, 100 points for level eight beasts and 500 pints for hunting a level nine beast. The number of level nine beasts in the forest is quite low, less than 10. On the other hand, there are nearly a hundred level eight beast and almost a thousand level 7 beats. Beasts of the sixth level and lower are the most common, and there are more than several thousands of them. Well, with my strength, I can not defeat level 9 beasts, and can barely manage to take down level 8 beasts. There is no need to waste time on level six or lower level beasts. So, the ideal target for me would be level seven beasts. I will mostly be hunting level seven beasts, and with proper opportunity, I will take down a few level eight beasts.", Edward thought.
Hunting will not be a problem for Edward, as Edward has hunted beasts before in the forest near his village. Wild boars, wild bulls, wild chicken, and other kinds of beasts. Hunting was one of his hobbies, and he was quite good at it. It can be said that he is an experienced hunter, but that is only when it comes to ordinary wild beasts. He has never even seen a ferocious grade 1 beast before. According to Snow, ferocious beasts are special beasts with strength surpassing ordinary beasts. These beasts are like human martial artists. Low grade (grade 1-3) ferocious beasts can use physical essence and has unbelievable strength. Mid-grade(grade 4-6) and high grade(grade 7-9) beasts can use Qi, just like mid-grade and high grade human martial artists. Their grades and levels are pretty much parallel to martial arts realms of humans.

Edward slowly kept walking inside the forest with caution. He opened the bag on his shoulder and pulled something out. It was a small sword. Edward did not know any sword skills, and he did not have a genuine full-sized sword, but this small sword was quite handy in hunting beasts. As a backup plan, he also brought his ax with him, as he was most used to using an ax, be it for woodcutting or as a weapon.
Edward increased his speed. He was walking fast, with a small sword on one hand and an ax on the other. As he was walking inside the forest, he was slashing on the tree barks along the way, leaving marks on the trees so that use them as guides when coming back after he finishes his hunting.
The forest had many different entrances and most of the participants entered through different entrances. So, the chances of meeting other participants right now are low. But the deeper in the forest he goes, the more likely that he will meet other participants, as everyone will end up gathering at the center of the forest one way or another. Although the instructor said that robbing other participants is not allowed, it doesn't mean that a person can't simply hinder other participants on their hunt. Some crazy participants might go as far as to knock others unconscious and stop them from getting a passable score. To put it simply, there are way too many ways to defeat other participants even without robbing them. So, there was no guarantee that participants would not clash with each other. Edward was also mentally preparing himself for such situations.
While Edward was planning and organizing his thoughts, he suddenly heard a rustling sound. His whole body went alert. He followed the source of the noise and saw a sturdy red ox chewing some leaves by the side of a mango tree. Edward recognized this ox. According to the manual given to the participants, this was the 'Trampling Red Ox', a level seven ferocious beast. It was the most common level seven beast in this forest. It was very strong, stronger than most other level seven beasts. But that was not the most dangerous part, the most dangerous part about this beast is it usually lived in herds and attacking one of them means facing an entire herd of raging beasts. Even peak-level Physical Essence realm cultivators won't mess with them unless it is a situation like this, where one of the oxen is somehow separated from his herd.

Edward checked the surroundings and was sure that there was no other ox in this area. That means he can hunt this ox without any problem. But the battle will not be that easy, and also, this was his first time hunting a ferocious beast.
This was a challenge for him, but he was excited to take on this challenge. With this, he will not only gain points but also gain experience that will help him face his future challenges. So, he was excited, very very excited.
"THE HUNT BEGINS, NOW!", he shouted in his mind.

Gamble
My name is Vak Tychus. Aside from the, regrettably striking name, there were very few things I'd judge, that made me - me. The name had to do with chance or fate. My last name was Latin, derived from the Latinized name Eutychus which was the combination of two Greek words corresponding to "good" and "luck, chance, and fortune." Now that you know why I'm so unhealthily and exceedingly prone to gambling I can begin to teach you why exactly I love it so much. There's a handful of things you'd have to know to really appreciate how to gamble. You'd be surprised at how much you can learn in two decades supposing you stuck with it your entire life. Although, there are some stark differences between betting a handful of cash and your life against monstrous creatures intent on your blood. Well, you learn a thing or two, if you can believe it. Here, in fact, we can start with the first one: Taking a risk. Try it now and start reading.

The Limits of Limitless
Author's Note: So, new author here, nice to meet you from this lovely one sided conversation lol. I was so tired of waiting for the perfect story for me so I decided to write a few of my own. These are basically just to make me happy, but if you enjoy them too that would make me happy as well lol. ______________________________________________________________________________________ So once upon a time, there was a convienent, and slightly cliche, plot device used by a somewhat lazy author.... Which in turn, created an easily made story of how a lucky high schooler posing as a hardcore gamer dies only to resurrect in a fantasy reality, meeting beautiful women, powerful dragons and ancient beings, an assortment of insanely escentric fellows, and a certain over powered ring. Journey with them as they explore the wilderness of twisted imagination. Or for you old timey folk who like their synopsis a bit tame, here you go: Jason, a senor in highschool, is slowly failing school due to not giving a fuck. Like many people now in the year 3056, he is obsessed with the wonderful invention most lovingly called, 'True Virtual Realities'. now by using his obsession with his favorite Virtual Reality game called 'Reality Controlled', which is the first and so called best Virtual Reality ever made. it was basically the all around escape humanity wished for, and he with heaven defying luck came across one of the three cheat items the game developers left for themselves: The Limitless Ring. The ring was a support type item and had the ability to grant wishes, store worlds, clone items, grant skills and easily learn abilities. But those are just a few of the things it could do. Using the ring he successfully became the "best player" and had a herd of fans following him everywhere. It was a dream come true. Until, he was killed from a power surge that fried his brain which was hooked up to the Nerve Capsule, an unsafe prototype of the Dive gear that he bought do to low funds. The end. Or so you would think.... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Author's Note: I was, to be honest, wanting to do a collab, because to me it is sooooooo incredibly boring to write by yourself since you always know what happens next, however no one enjoys a bit of friendly cooperation *sigh* so I'm forced to journey these roads alone.... 'Tis but a sad fate tha' 'is here young'un has t' bear. The cover isn't mine, all rights and stuff goes to its artist and such.
