《Art of Mortality》Chapter 10: Paragon

"So, let me return your question back to you. What are YOU doing in a place like this? And who is this boy here?" Julian asked back.
"That is none of your concern. Hmph, don't speak like you have become my husband. All we have is just a marriage agreement. Don't forget, if I surpass you or find a partner who is a better martial cultivator than you, I can choose to nullify the arrangement.", Snow was quite angry at the attitude of Julian.
" Princess Lisa, you might have to watch your mouth from now on, and give up on canceling your marriage arrangement with our young master. You weren't in the central continent for quite a long time. If you were there and were updated with the latest information, you would have kept your mouth shut.", said the lackey.
"What do you want to say?", Snow asked angrily.
"How long has it been since you broke through the Spiritual Phantom realm? 3 years, you were only 14 then. And even with your heaven-defying talent, how many years more will it take you to break through the realm of Heavenly Wisdom? 12 more years at least.", the lackey said with a mocking tone.
" Stop beating around the bush." , Snow was getting impatient.
" You know that 7 years ago, only at the age of 13, our young master broke through the Spiritual Phantom realm. And half a month ago, only with 7 years of comprehending the dao, our young master has reached the realm of Heavenly Wisdom. And he did it 6 months ago. Reaching the Heavenly Wisdom realm before the age of 20, he is the youngest Wiseman, also the fastest and most talented cultivator in history. Also, more than 6 months ago, in your clan's treasure "Heaven's Fate" tablet, there was a message saying "The Heavens Await the Ultimate Paragon". The elders didn't know what this message meant at first, but after witnessing the miracle of young master Julian's breakthrough, the elders understood the meaning of the message and realized that our young master Julian will become the next paragon. So, how can you hope to surpass him? Or where can you find someone better than him? ", the lackey said, feeling very proud.

Hearing this, Snow was speechless. She understood that this kind of talent is indeed the greatest in history, and it was unheard of. She had nothing to say now and realized that her fate is sealed. She finally accepted her circumstances.
"Maybe it is not a bad thing. Who can be better suited for me than Julian? And not to mention that our marriage also holds the fate of humanity. If it is for my clan and mankind, this might be the only option.", she said to herself.
She then sighed and helplessly said, " Julian, the fact is, I was just roaming around the world to gather experience, and somehow I was ambushed by demons. This boy is called Edward, he found me injured a month ago and treated my wounds. He wanted to become a cultivator so while recuperating, I decided to teach him a little.", Snow twisted the truth, not saying that she had been here for more than a year and also hid the fact about the seal and most of the things that happened.
"I understand. But this boy is just a Mortal, there is no need for you to waste your time by personally teaching him.", Julian said. Then, with his signal, the lackey walked towards Edward.
"Here. Take this. There is a lot of gold in this pouch, with this, you can get admitted to a military training ground in your country and learn martial arts. This should be more than enough for a poor mortal like you. This is your reward for aiding princess Lisa." the lackey said.
Edward was about to say something but looking at Snow's eyes, he decided to stay silent. He knew there was something big going on here, something far beyond his level. Saying anything now would only make things difficult for Snow.

"Let's go now.", said Snow. Not looking back towards Edward, she began her departure.
Although so many things were left unsaid, sometimes, silence can also become a long conversation. This silence between Edward and Snow, it was more than just silence, and it conveyed many things to both sides.
Edward looked one more time, curving her silhouette inside his mind, although there was no point, as it was something he would never forget. But he wanted to keep this feeling of powerlessness sealed up inside his heart. Every day, when he cultivated, he wanted to remind himself how powerless he was to stop Snow from showing her back towards him and leaving him without saying anything.
He hardened his mind. He told himself that goodbyes are not necessary, as he WILL find her and meet her once again. But at that time, he won't be powerless.
Snow, Julian, and the lackey flew up and soon vanished into the horizon.
Edward kept standing there silently for a while. Soon, he smiled. To be specific, 'someone' or 'something' inside him smiled.
"So, your real name is Lisa, princess of the Pisces Clan. We will meet again, and I will prefer to call you Snow", he muttered.
It was strange. It seemed very different from the usual him. It was as if he was a different person for a moment. Right now, even after this sudden event and Snow's departure, this side of Edward was calm, composed, and confident, the air about this Edward was majestic, like a Paragon.
Edward suddenly broke from his trance, not realizing what just happened to him. Then, he began thinking about Snow. Sighing, he went into his house. There, he sat in meditation.
"I'm too weak to even think about standing beside Snow", he thought. Soon, a very powerful aura was swirling around him. Edward was deep in mediation so he did not notice anything.
"The Ultimate Paragon, huh? Not a bad title, perfectly fitting for someone like us, or should I say 'You', Edward Alexander?.", A voice said from within Edward.
"Hahahahaha!!", the voice laughed, but no one heard him, not even Edward himself, only the heavens heard, and the gods trembled.
