《The Farmer》Chapter 35

Burning the midnight oil. Bob is writing on a piece of parchment using a worn-out pencil. Right next to him is a small knife and a sharpened coal. Looking back and forth to a piece of paper, mumbling to himself before writing it to the parchment.
Jack comes with his clothes stitched with thick fibers and patched with a different leather. He looks over his shoulder to see what he is writing. Then Bailey handed him a bowl of soup.
“Thank you, Bailey” Jack gestured while placing the bowl on a part of the table that isn’t cluttered with paper.
Jack observes some more and reads anything that he could lay his hands on.
“And done!” Bob shouted while holding the piece of parchment above his head.
“What do we have?” Jack asks politely.
“Well…” He flips a page and started reading from it. “The prompt is what they see when they move their hands, apparently they can see all sorts of stuff in there. It’s like a window… I mean like a bulletin board the size of a window.” The excitement in his voice made Jack sighs.
While Bob rants and explains everything he has written on the parchment, Jack picks up the paper from the table and stacks it on one side and placing the knife and coal on top of it.
“The red liquid is called a health potion or HP as they call it, there is also a blue one called mana potion or MP but we have yet to see it.”
“Wonderful.” Jack said while casually placing the bowl in front of Bob.
“Lastly, this.” Bob said as he reaches for his pocket and takes out the ring.
“This, the alchemist called it an inventory. It’s the same thing that Light and Best showed me. I forgot if they were wearing a similar ring.”

“Ofcourse, but sire, we have plenty of time to test it out later. First you must eat this nourishment.” Jack said before moving the bowl closer to Bob.
“I will. Later” He replied without taking his eyes of the ring and putting it on.
He positions himself in the middle of the room and raises his right hand where the ring is.
[Inventory]
He stretches his right hand and portion of it disappears in to nothingness. He couldn’t contain the excitement from his face as he pulls out his hand and to check if it is still intact.
Even Jack was surprised of what he saw despite already knowing before what would happen.
“Try it.” Bob takes the ring off and hands it over to Jack.
Jack stares blankly at Bob as they have already established before that the ring is too small for him to wear. Nevertheless, he puts it on the tip of his smallest finger
[Inventory]
He stretches his hand and the same thing happens to him. A portion of his hand disappears up to his elbow depending on how far he stretches his arm.
“Remarkable. I see it doesn’t seem to go beyond my elbow, sire.”
Bob stares for a moment then grabs a pencil and starts writing again on the parchment.
Jack pulls out his hand and observes it like Bob, then he removes the ring and places it right next to Bob.
Before dawn they were already at the farthest lookout. They were both on top of the trees and Bob was playing with the ring. Putting his hand in and out of the inventory while Jack observes the horizon for anything out of the ordinary.
A smoke from a distance caught his eyes and he immediately inform Bob.
Upon arriving there, Bob saw the alchemist pacing around a tree while constantly waving the air in front of him.

“Adventurer.” Bob calls out
The adventurer turns at Bob with a vial in his hand almost ready to throw it at him.
“Oh it’s you.” He sighed. “Do you have them”
Bob hands him the ring.
“Where’s the core?”
“Not until you give me the ring.” Bob shows him a red glowing core.
The adventurer then puts the ring on and opens the prompt. Bob observes closer despite not being able to see it.
“Done.” He said as he removes the ring and toss it to Bob.
Bob removes the core from the satchel and carefully hands it to the alchemist.
“Finally!” The adventurer almost drool on the core as he gazes upon it.
“So uhhh… How do I know what’s inside?”
“You can store 5 different items and about 99 stacks of it.” He replied while still busy using the prompt.
Then without delay the adventurer left without saying another word at him.
At daybreak, Bob was atop the cave with Agta, resting his back against the sleeping wolf watching the sun rise while continuously looking at the ring he recently obtained.
He looks down the massive hole where he can see Atga sleeping underneath the willow tree. Slowly the light that comes from the rock disappears when the sun rises up.
‘What should I do?” He mused as he closes his eyes to feel the cold gentle breeze.
‘Maybe I’m being too harsh. No harm came from these recent encounters.’
While deep in thought his hand accidentally brush against Agta’s scars. Then a rather painful memory causes him to grit his teeth and his desire to forgive the adventurers lessen.
After spending some more time at the caves summit, he went back to the farm.
Jack had recently spent his free time by the cliff, humming the same melody every time he’s there.
“What do you think? About the adventurers.” He asks while sitting right next to Jack by the porch.
“They seem oddly peculiar but their mannerism is tolerable.” Jack said wryly
Bob laughs then pauses for a moment to think.
“Do you think they will return?”
“Most definitely, but when they will return, I cannot say, sire.”
Another moment of silence envelops them but they seem to enjoy it as if it has been a long tradition. Sitting in front of the house gazing on Mt Maga as it is being lit up by the rising sun.
“How long do you think before your friends arrive?”
“About a week? I do hope they’re safe. You will understand more once you get to know them” Jack assures Bob.
“I know. I trust you.”

This Used to be About Dungeons
This Used to be About Dungeons is a comfy slice-of-life adventuring story that occasionally features dungeons. Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Mostly it's about walking in the woods with a friend, looking for mushrooms to put in your soup, or haggling with the guy selling squash, or taking care of a neglected garden. It's putting some jam on shortbread biscuits. And yes, sometimes you go down into the dungeons with your friends, and you kill monsters there, or disarm traps, but when you come out, you realize you've found the perfect magic item to give to one of the local kids that helped you out when your cat was sick. Look, the dungeons are always going to be there, and sometimes you need to make a journey to one of the Spirit Gates, or make a pilgrimage with the local Cleric of Symmetry to a holy shrine. Your tour through the local dungeons can wait. You'll have rivalries with other groups, and find some dungeon eggs that need to be carefully incubated in case they turn out to be something valuable, and help a friend to build a fishing weir. There's a big world out there, a mostly tame place with lots of magic, and even more to do and see. Join me, won't you?The cover image is Morning Sunlight Effect, Eragny, by Camille Pissarro.
