《Rebuilding the Sun Kingdom!》Chapter 12: First blood

The arrows fell on the Kunalls before they even noticed them. They were so surprised that they didn't even understand what was going on before the second wave of arrows came from the same side of the road. They all had arrows sticking out from their side, but they didn't have the luxury to notice the arrows were coated in poison.

After the second wave of arrows the Kunall leader finally shouted: "Archers on the hill! Charge!"

He did what he thought was the best course of action. The arrows only pierced their skin a few centimeters deep. It hurts a lot, but it won't kill them. They were a lot faster than humans too, they would have no problem catching up to a bunch of humans on foot.

From his ventage point Chris saw that Titus' team was the first to attack. He smiled a little, he knew that Titus was a lot more proactive than Ferlin. "How funny, that personality of his even shows up in the attack order. That's kind of cute."

Just as the Kunalls turned to charge Titus' team, a third wave of arrows hit them. But this time it hit them right on the back. The Kunalls' back were much larger than their side. This meant the targets were bigger and more arrows would hit. This was right about the time they finally noticed something was wrong. They were bleeding way too much! Their bodies healed very fast, this was not normal.

The Kunall scout leader thought "Damn it! Two ambushes! Even if we get rid of one side, the other will continue showering us in arrows. They are using poison too!" He looked at his men, their bodies were covered in red, blood kept flowing from every arrow wound. They were starting to panic, so he said: "Don't remove the arrows! Leave them in to stop the blood! Let's take care of one group of archers first, follow me!" And he charged.

Chris thought "Smart, if you leave the arrows in, you physically plug the holes and the blood won't flow as much. But if you do, you are giving more time for the other effect of the Hornet's poison to work."

And Chris was right, even a mild paralysis would eventually work on Kunalls if they were exposed to a sufficient amount of poison. And the longer the arrows remained in their wound the more poison mixed with their blood.

The Kunalls finally felt something else was wrong. They were climbing a small hill, but their bodies were heavy. The blood loss should not have such an impact yet. Yes, they lost a lot of blood but their bodies were much bigger than regular humans, so their bodies contained much more blood.

The Kunall scout leader looked at the arrows sticking from his body... [Another poison! Bloodloss and... paralysis! The Red Hornets! Damn it! Remove the arrows and die of blood loss or keep them in and be paralysed?]

He was not the only one who came to this conclusion, some Kunalls panicked and removed the arrows, others bitterly left them in. But it was too late for either of them, there was too much poison in their bodies, without the arrows and the prolonged exposure to the poison the wound were bleeding much more, and those who kept the arrows in felt their bodies getting heavier and heavier, until they collapsed under the rain of arrows.

The battle was over, the Kunalls had no chance of victory.

Chris mounted Dalahan and went down to congratulate his men. He noticed the village soldiers were helping to finish the Kunalls that were still alive.

As he went down he thought [Two hundred hunters with no help from fortifications are enough to obliterate twenty Kunalls. I think they should still be safe against forty Kunalls, after all the Kunalls didn't even make it half way up the hill. With good fortifications we can probably fight double, or triple those numbers!]

Chris finally reached his men, they all turned to him, their eyes were shining with excitement, their veins were still pumped full of adrenaline. "Good job everyone! Today there are twenty less Kunalls to worry about! Did it feel good?!"

"YES!" They answered in unison.

"Is it enough?" He asked.

"NO!"

"Should we hunt more?!" He continued.

"YES!"

"Very well! Remember! Our goal is a new kingdom! A kingdom were we can all be safe! And for that there is just one thing to do! Let's just kill them, all the fucking way to the borders!"

"KILL THEM ALL!" The shout echoed in the valley and nearly scared to death the soldiers of the refugee camp.

Chris finally turned his gaze to the nearby refugee camp. Mia and Cat were waiting at the entrance.

[Did she figure out we knew about the Kunalls? She probably did...Will she hate me for it?]

Chris was lost in his thoughts and completely forgot that he was still riding Dalahan to the refugee camp.
