Chapter 10

He decided to risk it once again and walked with steady steps towards the end of the second clearing.

As soon as he and his brothers, who followed him, reached it the clearing shifted again, appearing in front of them.

Dragon frowned even more. ‘If you want to play with me…alright I will play!!” he thought and made a few signals with his hands towards his brothers.

They were also quite annoyed by the strange things happening around them and nodded with a grin as soon as they saw the signs. The signs were two fingers crossed and the second hand was chopping down on the cross.

Its meaning was: ‘Break through’

With a low shout, without even thinking about the possibility of alerting the black shadows Dragon broke into a sprint, the fastest he could do with his weak and exhausted body, directly followed by his brothers.

They ran to the other end of the clearing and jumped into the fog, but were immediately greeted by the sight of another clearing, while the clearing behind them disappeared into the fog without a sound. The five brothers didn’t stop and continued running, using every last bit of their strength and stamina.

They broke through another wall of fog and again landed in a clearing, but that didn’t discourage them as they had realized something. The appearance of the new clearing was a little bit slower than before. Apparently the fog didn’t have an unlimited amount of energy.

This realization let Dragons eyes lit up with a strange light and he ran even faster. His brothers followed suit and they broke through another clearing.

This time it took two seconds for the fog to disappear and the clearing to appear.

The five brothers were running with pure willpower, their strength was long gone, but they kept going.

Another wall of fog was broken through, the time gap expanded to five seconds.

In these five seconds Dragon saw something in the fog in front of him.

It looked like an entrance to a cave. Soft light was emitted from the opening, which lighted up the surrounding fog.

‘Have to be faster…faster….faster’ Dragon thought and something ignited deep inside of his body.

“FAAAASTEEER!!!” he roared and a majestic aura rose around him, invisible to the eye, but the other brothers could feel it. And they understood. They felt into their inner self and tried to activate the mysterious energy.

‘Strength…STRENGTH….GIVE!’ Tiger roared in his mind and the red energy surprisingly responded, filling him with power and he directly followed behind the running Dragon with a roar.

‘Please give me power, whatever you are…please!’ Hawk thought and the blue energy responded. He too ran after his two brothers with a fiery glint in his blue glowing eyes.

‘…’ Snake just felt into his mind and after some moments the energy seemed to understand and activated, giving him seemingly unlimited stamina.

‘Please Mr. Energy, as you can see my brothers are leaving me in the dust, so… it would be really convenient if you could gift me the same amount of power for this moment. Even though I know that its not my right to ask this of you, but you have to see the bigger picture: If I die here you die too, don’t you? So lets make a pact….’ Turtle thought and kept on talking, talking and talking. The mysterious energy had already activated after he thought the first word, but he didn’t realize as he was too busy acting. Suddenly a spike of energy stabbed into his mind, letting him jump in shock.

“WHAT THE FUCK?!” he screamed and started running behind his brothers, not realizing what had just happened. His mind was repeating one word over and over again in panic: ‘SHIT-SHIT-SHIT-SHIT-SHIT’

As soon as all of the brothers were supported by their energy their speed became faster and faster, with every clearing they would gain at least five seconds.

And finally after more or less ten clearings, which they passed madly sprinting and with occasional roars, they managed to gain a fifty second head start.

They mobilized their last strength, and even the energy, which had become quite dark flared up in colour, giving them an extra boost.

All five brothers, while continuously roaring, ran faster than they ever had before, reaching the entrance, which was a 500 metre distance from the clearing, in 47, 9 seconds. (WN: USAAAIN BOOOLT!!!....sorry)

With a loud roar all of them jumped through the entrance in the exact moment the last clearing slowly started to vanish and the new one appeared and landed onto a grassland.

That was the last they saw before they lost consciousness because of the overuse of their bodies and energy.
