Took a break from actually writing chapters yesterday because my brain still felt like goop and I felt it might detract from the quality of my writing. But i’m good now after a 1 days break and i’m eager to start a new chapter, stay tuned for an actual chapter, hopefully the next one won’t take 15 hours of writing and editing straight to get out with semi decent polish and grammar. Maybe one day i’ll be able to pump out 14k words like that in a single day with a reasonable amount of quality with 8 hours of work, make myself more efficient ya know? anyways this is also sadly not a chapter but another poll, I was thinking that the amount you guys know about the lore of the world is rather miniscule, so I wanted to find a way to have some exposition/lore put before you without having the MC read a history book for 5 chapters, which would neitheir be entertaining, nor in character. So I had the though of basically having a single chapter every 3 chapters or so be a lore chapter where I explain important going on's of the world or just general facts about it's history, races, technology, magic and events that shaped it, so this chapter is a poll to figure out if you guys are intrested in learning the lore of the world, or if I just shouldn't even bother because everyones a uncultured philistine. Candor: The Forgotten House
*** Please read note below *** As a 16-year-old mage from a powerful family, Jayce Candor had known from a young age what his future would hold. As the fourth son in his family the possibility of him becoming the heir to the household was very small. But, with his talent as a mage, his potential accomplishments in the military could lead to titles of nobility and political power. However, on what would otherwise be an unremarkable night, everything he had ever known, the only people he ever cared for, and all of the plans for his future were destroyed. House Candor, one of the six great houses that helped build the Eldoran Empire had been erased from history. By imperial decree, all those bearing the name Candor were hunted down and executed as traitors of the Empire. With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Whispers from the dark
During the dark times, the humans and elves decided to work together to defeat the Fiend. A high king among the humans was chosen, together with his archmage he defeated the Fiend. A few years of peace, until the high king lost it. He was convinced that the mages would steal the crown and take over his world. Scared as he was, he decided to hunt down everyone with magical abilities. Elves retreated to the safety of their forests and mountains, forever remaining a mystery to the humans. Many non-magical humans agreed to this plan of their lord, for they were also afraid that the mages would take advantage of their weaknesses. The mages tried to survive. The archmage, who was the former counsellor of the last king and protector of the royal family, protested. He wanted to solve this problem through politics. But nothing helped, and the archmage fled. The king got two sons, one was born a mage, and the other human. The king despised his mage son and banished him. His younger brother became the heir of the throne. Anger grew in the mage prince. He thought war was the only solution to this problem. Consumed by the will to gain power, he searched for followers who would fight the humans in order to stop the hunt on mages. The archmage tried to stop this evil plan of the prince. But the mages split in two groups. The necromancers, followers of the evil prince, who studied the crafts of the dark magic to terrorise their enemies and gain back the throne. And the sorcerers, followers of the archmage, who tried to peacefully restore the trust between humans and mages. But nobody knew the danger that was gaining back his power in the underground world. The archmage disappeared and a darkness swept over the world. Human, elves, mages, every creature awaited in fear the day the darkness would take back his control. Faelwen, a young woman, was put in the middle of this chaos. Even though her only priority was to survive. Hunted down by humans and evil beasts, who can she trust? And what whispers from the dark will reveal the secrets from the archmage?
