3761 Cycles beyond the Dark
722 Years after the Repentance
Entry: 1/015
Dear self,
Most of today was spent dealing with our new resident Darcinderaht. It had gotten sick from something in the forest and developed an unbearable temperature after we fed it some food yesterday. It was also acting strangely but only in a passive delirious sense. While the species is herbivorous, they are capable of digesting small quantities of meat if not done repeatedly, and often resort to such after a period of famine or when ill. I suspect that the Jackalope carcass I found a few days ago was caused by the critter as a result of the earlier stages of its current sickness.
We’ve been feeding it various ashen foods made from charred fruits, leaves, and woods and observing its preference. Axl is waiting on a message from the Rangers Guild regarding its preferred foods and any special treatments for its sickness. I am the most capable of preparing a cleansing compound in the local area but other than using Swelterwort which, being a weed and less than ideal, I am uncertain of which materials I should use to bolster its constitution and purge the toxins from its body. The best I have done thus far is feeding it a solution made with Absinthe, which is only effective because of the amount of intent I am able to infuse into the alcohol.
Jeriel came in this morning with another artefact I am responsible for. This one hadn’t been made, unfortunately, but is an entirely unknown item Jeriel had appraised. It is unfortunate because I have no reference through which to analyze it apart from its superficial effects. Concerning magick, there are always multiple methods through which one can achieve ultimately indistinguishable results, and so it is impossible to make truly accurate speculations on the workings solely based upon their function. You might create flames, you might conjure flames, you might incite fire, you might materialize flames, you might reify flames, but to the eye all these result in identical effects. The implications of each method are vast in how mutable they might be, but their variability makes them inscrutable.

All that being written, you will have to appraise the workings in full tomorrow as I could not analyze all of its components in one evening. While Jeriel has informed us of its function as well as the results of its prior appraisal by the Quislings, we can place no trust in these and must proceed through all the precautions as normal. A mind affecting enchantment like this one can easily cause undesirable effects even when seemingly being beneficial both initially and otherwise. The nuance of the mind lends itself well to malignancy being hidden in plain sight and broad daylight.
Hope we fare well.
Regards,
Me.
