722 Years after the Repentance

Dear self,
The Flatterlight boy came to get the seal for his necklace quite early. I caught myself almost actually calling him pony kid, which I’m sure he wouldn’t appreciate much. His eyes do look a bit like horse eyes too, which isn't too odd for kobolds but is very appropriate for his second form. His actual name is Lalen Flatterlight. It felt harder to give him his refund than it did anyone else so far, since I put actual work into his item and I wasn’t actually required to. I might have forgotten that I wasn’t getting paid. I’m almost out of Glit now with all the refunds I had to give out.
I made a paralyzing potion for the Darcinderaht. The paralytic consumed my entire supply of the Blithweed. Axl got into contact with a preservation group for advise on the critter and to find a way to send it home. I can’t read any of his body language properly but he seemed a little excited from him eager movements. He certainly didn’t want to do anything slowly today.
We didn’t end up finding the critter. All the marking where the critter passed through were old. We’ll have to try again tomorrow and I might ask someone from town to help with the grunt work.
It might cause a problem if the Blithweed poison fades overnight. I’m not a magical adept like Anora so all my internal spell have a very short alacrity. Higher alacrity like mine is expected in the youth, and it reduces as you age and mature. The benefit is that when you’re young you can throw spells off every other hour without issue, but it also means that any spell you create has almost no duration other than its own instant effect. Older magicians can’t cast regularly but they make up for it easily with how long their workings last and how powerful they are. A master adept often still has spells they’ve prepared months or decades beforehand still ready at their convenience. Because they can prepare spells to work into future spells it’s a compounding effect and a lower alacrity is considered a mark of experience.

I need to counteract my high alacrity by binding my workings into material components, which is why I originally got into alchemy. The other consequence is that since my alacrity is so much higher than Mum’s that she makes me deal with all the trivial, high quantity work while she does more advanced work once a week or so. Often more, but she never makes more than one a day.
Since I haven’t worked with Blithweed before I don’t know how long the potion will remain potent. We can’t make another one since we’re out of Blithweed, and you won’t be able to collect more until we deal with the Darcinderaht. You’ll have to test a drop of the potion carefully before going out on the hunt tomorrow, and think of another plan if it has lost its effect. Testing potions is a delicate process as the potency of potions is largely tied into its whole, which means that the potency can be drained into a single drop when spilled making the rest useless, or usage of any portion of it reduces the overall effectiveness of the remainder. You can’t think of potions as a mass of liquid with some effect, but as a tangible manifestation of a singular intent which does not treat its host liquid as divisible.
Hope we fare well.
Regards,
Me.

Tales of the Willful Autonomous Nanobot Generator
Due to over-engineering and poor parenting; a nanobot generator is sent into the wider universe, ready to solve any and all problems...though probably not the way that was intended, or even hoped for. This story is a first time attempt to use a literary device I came up with, where I use 4 randomly selected songs to write short stories. As such there really won't be any cohesive story thread between chapters. If this gets traction, the likelihood for reader polls to influence the next story are high.

Ether mage
Everyone is born with mana. Some people are born with more. Some are born with less. If they practice enough, they can improve those numbers, but if you don't even have enough to practice with, there isn't much you can do. Everyone is also born with ether. It is useful, but can't power any spells by itself. It only gives them shape. You don't normally need much ether. It is nice to be able to summon swords out of thin air, but not really that useful ability in a peaceful country, where enchanted items are so cheap. For people born with bigger ether pool, there isn't much to do except double their efforts to get more mana. Or reach out for a forbidden power...

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.
