722 Years after the Repentance

Dear self,
The pony kid was generous enough to actually come while the shop was open today. Rashplume had arrived in order to “observe” my work after patrolling around the area for the Quislings and made the poor boy tremble in discomfort. The boy’s little sister had decided to tag along since no one had known about his enchanted necklace before yesterday, since he managed to pay for it out of his own pocket somehow.
The little girl was jealous and demanded to play with the grounding charm as well, but I cheerily informed her that the item was specifically bonded to its owner’s spirit and was useless to anyone else. As for its apparent lack of function, the boy had explained that I hadn’t yet finished the job with me keeping a straight face in the background. I do not know what Axl made of what should be blatant deception to his eyes but the owl was happy to watch in silence.
Adding the foci was easy. I thought using a radiance foci would be the most useful so I prepared a simple working using Levinspark as a base and anchored it to the grounding matrix in the necklace. Overall, I took a limited stabilization charm and turned it into a decent instrument to cast cantrips with. Now all that’s left is to allow the thing to attune to its master overnight and have the boy come back in the morning to have the final seal applied. He’ll be flinging out motes of light and making luminous images before the year is out and none the wiser to why he had the thing made in the first place. It’ll even teach him to control his energies better so that he wouldn’t need it eventually.

After dealing with the children I went about other things with Axl shadowing me. Since he was here anyway I asked him about the cleansing formation I had been compelled to make. As far as he can tell it is used to prevent scrying and passive sensing from a specific spiritual entity. It is likely that the Quislings intend it as a way of hiding from a spirit that they knew would be after them if it sensed them. We have no idea which spirit it might be protecting against though.
We set off into the woods to track down the critter that’s been roaming around here. I brought a pixie along to help us locate the thing. Since it was likely attuned to fiery elements I prepared a smothering spell to subdue it should we find it.
We followed an invisible trail with the guidance of the pixie, and we passed by another path of ravaged plants with a smattering of embers strewn around. Axl collected the particles with some imterest and went on a rant about the ambient aspects and the ecological effects of rival elementals with too much proximity, nothing I didn’t know before.
The critter was some form of lizard large enough to leap at me.I tried to approach it cautiously but it sensed me through my concealing glamours and bolted. It spewed a hand full of irritating sparks right into my face and nearly blinded me. I was about to smite it with the smothering spell when Axl tackled me to the ground and let the thing escape.
It turns out that not only was the critter not an actual monster, but in was in fact an endangered creature from some exotic region in the mainland. Axl said it was a Darcinderaht, a fiery lizard that likes to eat ash and prefers arid climates. I might have hurt it with my smothering charm so now we have to figure out a way to capture it safely and find out how it ended up displaced all the way from its distant home to our lovely island.
Hope we fare well.
Regards,
Me.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes

Paternum: A Superhero Story
When Quinn finds an experimental superpower-granting costume in their parents’ attic, they didn’t expect to be drawn into a web of superhuman intrigue, but their discovery serves as the catalyst for that conspiracy to slowly unravel. At it’s heart, Paternum is an extended coming-of-age story for the main character as they become a superhero, in a world with more reasonable stakes and less powerful heroes than many superheroic worlds. Themes include what art means to different people, and what it means to be a patron, whether as a sponsor, a parent, or a supporter. I consider Paternum‘s primary influences to be the various versions of Spider-Man, J. C. McCrae’s own superhero story Worm, and Drew Hayes’ story SuperPowereds. I hope that fans of such stories can find something to enjoy in mine as well. Paternum is primarily hosted on my website (thevoidwrites.com) where it updates weekly in groups of scenes totalling approximately 2000 words. Here on Royal Road, it will update once daily with one scene at a time, but only after each act is completed on the home site - the next batch of updates is scheduled to begin on February 5th. There is a discord channel for discussion (discordapp.com/invite/QFMM6yA), and you can vote for Paternum on topwebfiction (topwebfiction.com/vote.php?for=paternum) as well. Finally, you can buy the first book of Paternum, The Swift Uplifting Rush, in a couple different ways - as an ebook through Amazon, or directly from me for a discounted price, or as a physical paperback from Amazon. Buying the book will give you access to Drawing Hands, an exclusive arc that won't ever be published on either my site or Royal Road.

A generic love story: disturbance
To escape the boring dogma that society presents, many choose to turn away and bathe in a fictional world with fantastic fantasies. There they are awed by the great heroes and villains; by great battles between powerful forces, and by things that the real world didn`t seem to hold. But by doing so, they cruely ignored the pains and suffering of actual human beings, as well as the real threat humans can pose to eachother under extreme but still very real conditions. What many failed to realise, is the fact that unspeakable evil is very much doable by a mere anybody, and with that, the terrifying things a human can do when their mind is twisted. This story is a pathetically poor, but still a desperate attempt to reveal the depths of human emotions and what they can drive us to do. Following Sougo Kyoya, a boy with a tragic past and violent future, the story will deliver hard to understand martial arts and psychological behavior, masochism, and BDSM smut scenes. notes: "character`s conversations" (character`s thoughts) *sound effects* [author`s notes] Credits to BlackTea and Pingster for contributing ideas and editing.
