Dear self,
I did add a little trick to it so that it spewed sparkles randomly and squeaked at various tones when it was near anyone it was bonded to. It almost feels like a language of random squeaking. Figuring out how to make the squealing sound pleasant was a chore as I had never made a vocal glamour before, but I kept it simple so came out well enough. It’s harder to mess something up that’s simple, and a simple thing done well can draw a surprising amount of appreciation when you consider how much people have to labour to get others to like more ambitious works.
The hard part was the lattice regulating the deviation between squeaks, so I guess I’m just as guilty when it comes to overcomplicating the things I make. The toy is so layered in magic now that if Mum ever saw it she would spell my tongue to taste foulness for a month for how much uncoordinated effects there are in the unfortified opus. Sensible craftsmen would turn it into a wondrous item before attempting to do so many enchantments.
Little Selthen and Erelise sure did like it though, and Aerzen accepted the additions as compensation instead of the Glit I would have owed him. I had to insist on the refund though. I don’t want the inspector examining every bit of goodwill I receive when they come frowning at me and berate me for not testing the warding scheme before an appraisal.
I did end up using all of the Jolly Darlings I gathered from the woods the other day, and finding the Jingsnicker between all our warded jars took a lot longer than it should have. These things are so disorganized anyone who saw it would think we were witches instead of enchanters. I’m the closest thing to an alchemist in the house and even I don’t know what most of these are for.

I got a letter from the Guild, so we know that the inspector is coming tomorrow. He’s a respected diviner so you’ll soon find out exactly how those Quislings got loose, and whose fault it is. Mother won’t like it that an outsider was inspecting her workings without her supervision, but I don’t have a justification to refuse him.
