《The Tale Of A Slayer》Chapter 39: An Expedition in the North

(A smaller chapter this time. Hope you enjoy it! World Domination is at hand! :D )
The beautiful golden wings of the Pegasus flapped in the air, as it flew through the blizzard.
Before the Pegasus, a huge sheet of white was spread, like a humongous cloud. The Pegasus struggled to go against the cold icy winds, the hail hindering its flight.
On top of the winged horse, a man sat, straddling it. He lay low on the back of the creature, a thick woolen coat around him. In his hands, a green crystal faintly glowed, covering the Pegasus and the man with the green light.
Behind the golden Pegasus, a horde of silver pegasi, 12 of them, fly behind the golden Pegasus, heading deeper into the blizzard, towards their target.
The Holy Knight Order’s top brass, The Golden Sun, headed to the northern continent, The God’s Graveyard.
‘Vistria. How close are we?’
A voice resounds in the leading man’s head. The head of the Holy Knight Order, Vistrias Realis.
‘Chernakoff. This blizzard. It’s unnatural. The barrier crystals are almost done. As for how close we are, even I do not know.’
‘You don’t? What do you mean, you don’t?!”
Chernakoff, the figure atop the silver Pegasus leading the other eleven, asked, shocked. They were to slay the emerging chaos in the North as it was wished by their god. Being devout believers, they took up their arms and rushed here, for their god. But, the horrors of the God’s Graveyard was not small.
A never ending blizzard plagued the area, hindering the vision of every person who wished to walk here. It was as thick as a veil covering the eyes, preventing one from seeing more than a meter ahead of him. The cold was enough to freeze even a Mithril ranked easily, but being Master ranked, they weren’t going to go down that easily, along with the crystals they had on hand.
The power crystals were special devices, made from the Luxor stone. It was capable of storing magical energy, so a genius magician, Abraca devised a way to imprint spells on them. With that, useable spell crystals were made. But due to the process of making them being so closely guarded, it was basically impossible to buy, with its sky high prices.
Rather than the long term spell crystals, people used scrolls. By using the inscription patterns, one could use the scroll as a one time use spell.
It was cheaper, and hence more popular.
‘Theyios sama had told us that we had to head to the ends of the world. The place where the great demon is sealed’
Vistria replied, his eyes trying to discern the sight before him, to find out where they were heading.

‘A great demon?’
‘It is said that it was a demon that was capable of destroying the world, so Theyios sama, along with the other major gods, intervened and sealed it there. A god died in the fight. That is why it is called as the God’s graveyard’
‘Oi… We don’t have to face the demon or something right?’
Even if he was a proud knight, Chernakoff worried more for his life rather than his pride as a knight. It was disgraceful for a knight, but his sheer strength allowed him to gain the position.
The blood red sword at Vistria’s side, suddenly glows, and trembles violently. It was as if it had gone mad, suddenly releasing bloodthirst.
‘The Bloodweaver is tingling, for some reason.’
‘The blood weaver? Another work of the Weaver series huh?’
‘That is not important, Chernakoff. The sword, it’s releasing killer intent. What Is happening?’
Vistria, worried, places his hand on the pommel of the sword, attempting to figure out the reason.
The sword doesn’t respond, and keeps glowing, like a beacon. Like it was attracting something. And attract something, it did.
The sky above them split apart, as a humongous sight made itself visible.
“Wh-Wha?!”
“Where did that come from?!!”
From the sky, came the terror of the northern skies, a Frost horn. It emerged, spreading its massive wings.
A 100 meter long dragon.
“GUAAAAAAOOOO!!!!”
It opened its gigantic maw and roared, an ear splitting roar that would make even the Gods hesitate. The shockwave sent the pegasi flying away, its riders trying to desperately hold on, to not fall off. The clouds split away, and the land itself shook, from the sheer might of the king of the skies.
“Well, no one told us that this was going to be easy”
Smiling at the challenge, Vistria draws the Bloodweaver. It tingles in anticipation, to bathe in the blood of its foe.
“Haaa… Haaaa…”
I gasp, collapsing on the rock. Blink sure is hard.
I roll onto my back, breathing heavily. My Chaos energy is almost depleted, and slowly regenerating itself.
I chuckle to myself, happy. Finally, finally, I had learnt Blink.
It took me three days of night time sneaking, but I did it. Blink became mine.
But the price to finish it was large. The physical exertion was too much for me, since it was my first time doing it. I had to devise countless theories and verify them, to check whether it would work. Every time I failed, a violent rejection would occur, and I would struggle to recover.
But, it was worth it. Blink would surely increase my power, for the trick itself was a great help to combat.

Blink was a short range teleportation move. A move I would need oh so much in my future fights.
I prop myself up, and sit cross legged. I cross my hands over my chest, and breathe deeply. Slowly, I practice the Nine Revolving Planets technique, to calm and refine my energies.
The Nine Revolving planets was a breathing technique devised by the Chaos Slayer who wrote the manual. I don’t know the guy, but the technique sure is good. It helps me to calm down the Chaos energy, and enables me to use more of it. Right now, I could only use it for a limited time, but this breathing technique greatly boosted my endurance. I wonder if it’s because the Chaos energy was the first one I integrated my mana with.
Slowly, I get up, and prepare to use Blink once more.
The Chaos energy spreads through me, through my blood. My flesh and my tissues get intertwined with the energy, to make every part of my energy to be filled with it. My body to become the energy.
Taking a deep breath, I release the energy around me. In a circle. The cave I was in fills with a reddish black light that only I can see. It spreads out like a circle, in a 6 meter radius.
“Fooo….ha!”
In an instant, I violently release my energy with a shout. To disturb space and time. To create a rift. To pass through that rift.
I open my eyes and I was standing five meters ahead of where I was .
The second attempt was much better, with the energy consumption going down by a lot. I flex my muscles, deciding to master this within today and get back to the city. Maria and the others might wake up soon, so it’s best I guess.
I run across the plains, my feet beating against the soil. The ground gets gouged as I run across it, as fast as possible. I had to get back soon. They might get worried if I wasn’t there. Of course, it’s not like I wanted to keep it a secret from them, but it’s just that…. I’m kinda afraid.
What will they do once they learn who I am? Mili already knows it, so it’s fine, but what about the others? Will they hate me? Detest me? I don’t want that. I might be overthinking it, but in the end, all’s well that ends well, Right? Right?
I shoot past the fields, those huge walls being my targets. The sunrays were slowly emerging from the earth, light shooting through the clouds in a bright streak.
After two days of dashing past them without getting caught, they had put up their guard, in an all alert mode. Of course, since the time I arrive is inconsistent, they still get surprised from time to time.
The gates . I can see them. I dash in, flitting past the guards. Another successful ru—
Or so I thought. But finally, the guard captain moves. He stands in front of me, sword unsheathed. Haha~ He wants to welcome me back, I guess.
Without stopping, I keep moving, aiming to dart around the captain. But his defense is solid, leaving me no gaps to get through. I want to avoid fighting him, since with these many guards, they might catch me.
Even though I had no gap, a bright idea flashes into my mind.
A test run!
Using the familiar process, I ready myself for blink, to get past the captain.
As soon as I get within sword’s reach, he swings his sword, at a blinding speed, aiming for my face.
‘Blink’
I think it to myself, and in a second, pain coursed through my body, as I stumble and fell.
I crashed into something, splinters chipping at my cheek.
What happened?
I scrambled to my feet, and look around. I could see the captain’s back. He was looking at me with widened eyes, his mouth agape. I see, Blink worked.
Without stopping, I ran into the city, towards the inn where they were waiting.
Blink training, Success~!
Atop an icy mountain, Vistrias breathed heavily, with his sword lodged into the ground.
A few steps behind him, Chernakoff was on his back, gasping for air. His sword lay a few meters away from him, as he struggled to get up.
The Golden Sun’s thirteen members had reduced to seven.
Vistria draws his blade out of the ground. After a long and painstaking battle, he had somehow survived, but lost 6 of his comrades in the process.
“Chernakoff, come, we must.. continue the mission”
Vistria struggles to speak, and somehow gets the words out. Chernakoff weakly replies.
“Haah…. Mission…. Huh?”
“Chernakoff?”
‘Nothing… I was just thinking… Does Theyios sama really care about us?”
“Chernakoff!?”
In anger, Vistria brandishes his sword, aiming it at his sole friend. Chernakoff stares back at Vistria.
“As I thought. You wouldn’t understand… Let us be off then”
With a solemn attitude, Chernakoff mechanically gets up and walks towards the north, each step feeling like a step towards death. Vistria sighs at his friend, and supports him, as they walk, further towards their target.
The Golden Sun walks towards the north, leaving behind the mountain, the corpse of the Frost Horn.

One billion people from one hundred thousand universes have been dropped onto a singular planet five times larger than Earth. In the corner of their eye were three numbers: 1,000,000,000. 15. 10. Nobody could figure out what it meant until fifteen years after the initial transportation, as out of the blue, a message repeated itself in their minds for twenty-four hours. “Only ten can return. The rest will die. There is no time limit,” Following the global message, genocides ran rampant, with established friendships broken, families ripped apart, blood alliances betrayed, and leaders felled in seconds. How? [The Evgnomon] The Beholden; hidden throughout the realm were artefacts: weapons, information, tools from beings and societies of a higher plane. It was up to the humans to scour the land and take them by hook or by crook if they ever wished to go back. Whisked into this world as a mere babe, I suppose it was lucky I didn’t die in the chaos. But as I stare into the rotten, tattered pages of the accursed book laid upon the pedestal in front of me; and the unnerving gaze of our professor trained onto the back of my head silently pressuring me to become the avatar of grotesques unspeakable and undecipherable to the human mind. O, how I wish I did...
