《Asura》Chapter 36-Cultivating Under The Moonlight

It turns out the damage to her internal organs were not too severe. Thanks to her practice in the Dancing Moonlight body skill her internal damage were light. External might be a bit brutal but with modern medicine she would heal completely in two to three days. With not a single scratch in sight. Lintian finally relaxed when he heard this otherwise he would have be distraught.
Afterwards Kira and Tsuna came in to check up on her. It was their precious sister after all. Lintian left afterwards to leave the brothers and sister alone.
A couple days passed by and it turns out the Huang, Apho, and the Tsukino family interfered to prevent the situation at the mall from escalating. Mao had Susan’s family deleted all surveillance videos that involves Lintian, Yuki, Katrina and Diana. The three family also hired hackers to make sure it was absolutely done correctly. If words got out their family reputation might be tarnished a bit. Mao’s reason was to hide Lintian’s strength while the other two had their own reason.
Lintian’s life seems to settle down after that event. Diana and Katrina would come over almost every day to pester him but he enjoys it a bit. It was much more fun than before. Chelsey would also come by a couple times a week when she found out Diana and Katrina were coming back almost everyday. Alex and Celyis came by quite often too. Lintian enjoys the company of these girls. Yuki felt happy that Lintian was opening up to everyone but also felt a bit lonely. This life slowly passed for about a month.
Today Lintian sense that something was wrong with Yuki. Lintian was sitting on top of a rock in the zen garden cultivating. In this garden there is a formation set up to gather qi faster. This formation cost about 20,000,000 qi stones and the purpose of it is to increase cultivation speed. This tiny formation increases speed by 15 percent. It might not sound a lot but in the long run it is. The ones that increase cultivation speed by 100 percent cost about 32,000,000,000 qi stone. An entire middle class clan’s fortune. During the pass month Lintian managed to break through to the third stage of the refinement realm but his meridian points were still the same. Yuki was now in the second stage of the refinement realm. While Diana was in the third too. Katrina was in the second.
Yuki was pacing back and forth in front of Lintian today. Lintian didn’t mind but it was somewhat distracting when she releases a big sigh every second. Kyuri lays there on the ground sleeping. In this one month Kyuri broke through to martial realm stage one.
Yuki releases another sigh and glances at Lintian.

“Is something wrong?” Lintian finally asks.
“YES! Everything,” Yuki yelled out, “I went to get a companion two weeks ago with dad and couldn’t fine one that I feel mutually connected too and yesterday I couldn’t find one either. Well I compromised on one but it rejected me. ME! Ugh. Diana and Katrina both already found one why can’t I. I’m gonna be forever alone!”
“Yuki calm down. It took me almost a whole day to find Kyuri too,” Lintian lied. It took him a whole day to compromise but it took a lot of luck to get Kyuri Lintian thought to himself.
“Lintian did you not see Diana’s companion? It’s a Unisus. Where does she even find something like that,” Yuki complained. A Unisus is a Pegasus with a unicorns horn or a unicorn with wings.
“Yuki a companion is a life long friend, and brother or sister. You can’t just have one just because you want one. How about we go into the forest and play around. That might calm you down a bit. I’m getting tired from cultivating anyway.”
Lintian got down from the rock grabs her hand and leads her to the forest. Kyuri sensing them leave followed behind them.
They were just wondering around hand in hands. Lintian has already memorize the whole outskirt of the forest. He could avoid all the dangerous demonic beast with his eyes close so neither were in any danger. Lintian and Yuki talked about school and stuff while they walked around. In all honesty Lintian was just trying to distract her from the whole companion issue. He himself knew that if he was in Yuki’s shoes he would probable be acting the same way.
While he was distracting Yuki he didn’t realize he was distracting himself too. Before he realized it the sun was setting. Lintian looked around and realizes he was in unfamiliar territory.
“Um. Lintian are we lost?” Yuki asked.
“Hahaha,” Lintian laughs awkwardly, “but yes.”
“Wow?”
“I’ll call Kira and see if he can come get us,” Lintian said as he lifts up his wrist for his watch just to realize there was no signal. Ah fish umbrella coming kite! He thought, can it get any worst. It seemed like God answered his prayers and a storm cloud began to glide over.
“Yuki theres no signal at the moment. Lets find a place to hide from the rain for a bit.”
Lintian remembers briefly seeing a cave earlier. Lintian retraced his steps and found the cave. He looked around for Kyuri but couldn't find him. Lintian sent out a mental message, “Kyuri where are you?”
Kyuri send back a mental image of his location. Lintian saw himself and Yuki and the cave behind him in Kyuri’s mental message. He then looks at the direction opposite to the cave. He saw a translucent outline of Kyuri. Huh? Thought Lintian. Then it began to move and the previous colors began to fade. Kyuri’s feather color began to change from the brown, and green to red and blue.

“Wow thats awesome,” Yuki said out loud.
Thats neat thought Lintian. When did he learn camouflage? Lintian brought both Kyuri and Yuki into the cave hoping it wasn't occupied. Luckily the cave was completely empty. It was about 12 feet tall and 30 feet wide and only getting wider the deeper you go until you hit a wall 50 feet in. There were a couple small mini caves on the floor of the cave walls. Deeper in and near the wall there is a tiny pool of water that is struck by the light from the hole above the ceiling.
“Lets rest here for now. We’ll head back when theres light out,” Lintian said still observing the cave.
Lintian sat himself against the wall of the cave and began to cultivate. Yuki seeing this did the same. Kyuri looks at them both and yawns. His eyes glows red a bit and took a nap. The thing about the equality companion contract is that they can both share a bit of each other’s power. Right now since Lintian is cultivating and Kyuri will also be absorbing qi from the air but it will be at a pace of 1/10 of Lintian’s speed. Right now it is barely noticeable. When Kyuri gets a power up Lintian will naturally also get a power up. Before Lintian never noticed it but once Kyuri reached the Martial Realm first stage Lintian felt that his qi grew two times denser than before. Also his qi reserve was increase by fifty percent. His dantian space was also increase by 30 percent. Furthermore his skin, bone and muscle all got stronger. In the third stage of the refinement realm he felt like he could fight someone of the fifth stage without the use of Dancing Moonlight body skill or Emperor step with no problem. To be honest the true use of the equality contract has not been shown yet. Only when Lintian reaches the Martial Realm and Kyuri officially reaching tier one will it show.
Hours passed. The cave began to get darker and darker.
“Lintian,” Yuki whispered.
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry about today. I know you were just trying to help.”
“Don’t worry about. I got distracted myself. Once we get back I’ll tell dad that it was all my fault,” assured Lintian.
“I don’t want you to get in trouble. Dad loves me anyway so I’m sure if I take the blame there won’t be to much of a punishment.”
“Lets worry about that later but did you notice that this cave seems to be densely packed with qi. At least four times denser than normal.”
“Yeah. I didn't notice it earlier but its true. It feels really fast compare with before. Much faster than when I use the qi gathering formation in the zen garden at home.”
“For me its about fifty percent faster. What about you?”
“About the same.”
“Hey wanna make this our secret base? Just between you and me?” Lintian asked.
“What if demonic beast come in here?”
“We’ll look around and make sure it is safe before we do.”
When Lintian said that he saw a beam of moonlight shot through from the roof. It hit the pool of water and bounce off of it and hitting the wall. The black rocks from before turns out to be deep dark translucent purple crystal. This beam of moonlight began to get thicker and thicker. The reflection began to get crazier and crazier until the whole cave was fill with this harmonious purple light scene.
“Its so beautiful,” Yuki said in awe.
“Yeah,” Lintian was dumbfounded. Could these crystals on the wall be the source? Lintian walks over to the wall and place his palm on it. He then sent in qi to exam it. He found out that the crystals were nothing special. Just light reflectors. Where is this qi coming from then? Lintian wonders.
Somethings coming, Kyuri warned mentally. Something really strong.
Every cell in Lintian’s body became extremely alert.
“Yuki we have to leave. Kyuri just told me something is coming,” Lintian told Yuki. Lintian can see fear rush across her face. Lintian, Yuki and Kyuri all got up and began to leave. Before they were 6 feet away from the entrance there stood a grand demonic beast. It stood seven feet tall and a little over three feet wide. It has sharp orange fur. Ears like a kangaroo with black fur around the corner. A pointy but firm snout almost like a coyote. A strong but slender body like that of an alpha wolf. Both of it’s eyes had black fur around it like a meerkat. Lintian could also clearly see six tails sticking out of his end. Its cold black beady eyes stares down at Lintian, Yuki and Kyuri. All three of their body shivered like crazy. Cold sweat ran down their forehead like on a hot humid summer day. This was killing intent. This sense of death renders all three paralyzed in their tracks. Lintian could not even think. His body just won’t obey him. His mind shouted run. Run! RUN!!! But his legs just won’t move as the Demonic beast draws closer and closer.

Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.
