《Reborn as a Slave》Reborn as a Slave Ch 03

Ch 03
The house that my new elven master led me to had a fairly large yard and was in a well-off residential section of the city. Dragging me along by the rope attached to the collar around my neck he led me up the path that led up to the building and then around to the back. “slaves must use the back door!” he spat venomously at me while his green eyes showed open malice. He pulled out a key and unlocked a padlock on the outside of the door and when it opened, I was greeted by the sight of a dark passageway and stairs leading down into the darkness. As I stared into the darkness below he gave me a shove and kicked the back of my left knee, causing me to fall down the stairs ass over elbow before finally landing hard on a stone floor at the bottom and then I heard a resounding slam from above as the door through which I had come was shut. I didn’t bother climbing back up the stairs, it was pitch black in the gloom, I hurt all over, and I knew there was no chance that my cruel bastard of a master had failed to replace the lock upon the door.
Crawling to a nearby wall I pulled myself to my feet, slightly grateful that in the darkness the pain in my head did not have a chance to manifest into a full-scale migraine. Unsteady on my feet, I continued leaning against the wall as I got my bearings. I could feel the edge of the bottom step against the side of my ankle and so I knew which way I had come from, besides that the wall at my back felt like it was made of blocks of stone cut and mortared together. I was also beginning to feel grateful that the darkness was keeping me from properly assessing my injuries as I was certain they were numerous. On top of the numerous scrapes and bruises from being dragged halfway from one city to the next I had now accumulated several new bruises and what would probably turn out to be a cracked rib or three in the morning. On top of that I was beginning to suspect that I had a concussion because even after several minutes I was still dizzy and wanted nothing more than to lay down and take a nap. Realizing that falling asleep was dangerous and here in the dark and by myself the risk was high that I would be unable to remain awake unless I found away to occupy myself. With this line of logic, I determined to see what I would find if I went deeper into this basement or cellar or dungeon or whatever my oh so kind master had graciously decided to throw me into.

I had only taken a half-dozen unsteady steps before my nose crashed into a rough wooden surface and I again fell to the floor, my ass by now felt like one large bruise. Retaking my feet once again I began to run my hands along the wooden surface that had blocked my path. After a few moments I realized that it was a door with a handle and no latch on this side. Considering that running into it had not opened the door I pulled on looped metal handle and was rewarded with a scraping sound as the door slowly pulled open. As the door opened, a dim light came from within and once I had opened it all the way I saw three slender figures laying in the gloom on the stone floor with little more than a bare collection of old rags to sleep on. There were two human men, one who looked about middle aged and one who looked to be very old, with his hair and beard gone white with age. In addition, there was also a human woman as well. All three had a lost hopeless look in their eyes and when I before thought that they were merely slender I now saw was emaciation as my eyes adjusted to the dim light coming from a single candle in the center of the room.
As I walked into the room with the other three humans the eldest turned his head slowly to look at me and a pained look came into his eyes. “I see my replacement has been purchased” he said in a weak voice. “I will no doubt have to train you to take my place starting in the morning. Once I have finished and the Master Silva deems your skills adequate, I will be put down like an old dog that can no longer hunt. I am both bitter and relieved at this but for now please don’t talk to this old man and allow me to get some sleep tonight” Saying this the old man turned over and faced away from me, closing his eyes and crossing his arms over his chest.

When I looked at the other two neither would meet my eyes although when I approached the woman, she took on a fearful look and backed away skittishly saying loudly “you better leave me alone! Only master is allowed to have his way with me the disgusting elf! If you rape me, he’ll cut off your dick for sure!” after saying this she laughed and kept backing away and so I quickly gave up on being able to talk to her either. Giving it up as a lost cause I found a corner of the room where I could keep all of them in front of me and a wall at my back and fell to sleep slowly, unsure of what fresh indignities and pains tomorrow would hold for me. The only thing I knew was that things were bad, and they were going to stay that way for a very long time.
As I slept, dreams of my new master entered my subconscious. He kept laughing maniacally and kicking me while I rolled on the floor in pain unable to get up. Needless to say, it was a long night.

An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.
