《Forsaking Reality》Chapter 177: The War Begins (2)

A faint white cloud appeared around Akata's figure. As it appeared, a small rumbling could barely be perceived if one was a just a few steps away. Small sparks of electricity could be seen within the faint cloud.
The faint cloud could hardly be seen. But if one was able to peer into Akata's body, all they would see is a bold cloudy substance everywhere. His blood vessels, stomach space, lungs, soul region, etc. They were all filled with the cloudy substance. What made this cloudy substance fearsome, however, was the many sparks that could be seen dancing about.
These sparks were crucial to the Thundercloud Brigade Technique as they served to temper and refine the body. The faint thundercloud naturally drew in the Lightning Inner Element energy from the surroundings which increased the strength level of the refining. Of course, Akata could either stop, slow, or speed up this process if he so chose. And since Akata was aiming for the peak, he obviously sped it up to his limits.
The refinement process used a whole level so one could tell how strong the body would become after training in this technique. Akata's body was already abnormally strong but after this it would also have a natural lightning resistance and become lighter and more agile.
An hour passed by quickly and the group set out once more. As they fought together their teamwork became better coordinated and flawless.
There was a time effect set on the chamber, a day in there would equal half of one outside. Essentially, the group was getting two times as much training as the other groups.
The Spacetime Scenario Chamber was very profound and had plenty of power due to the Elders construction. But, the resources they had at their disposal couldn't compare to what they were used to, thus they had to restrict the power. After all, with more people, the harder it would have to work. So to keep it running smoothly, the time effects had to be lessened.
Swordlife and Mindlife didn't have a group to train so they cultivated by themselves the whole time. Thus, they were able to increase the time effects of the chambers. They could effectively spend 3 days in the chamber and only one day would pass in the outside world.
This whole period of time was spent training. Not only the disciples, but even the teachers and Elders were training as well. Everyone was doing their utmost to strengthen themselves.
Three days later in Red Cloud Palace Hall
Akata, Yinlife, Swordlife, and Mindlife stood in a row in front of Sect Leader Fu.
"You four have earned the right to lead the Cloud Corps. The Cloud Corps will be a small special forces unit that will complete certain tasks that I assign. Nolife and Swordlife, you two are leaders. For this mission, Yinlife you'll be under Swordlife, while Mindlife you're under Nolife. There will be an Elder overseeing each of your groups from the shadows, don't count on them helping you. I've already assigned the other members of your teams and will have you meet with them shortly.
For now let's discuss your first mission. Swordlife, with you being the strongest, I'll make you responsible for being on the battlefield and secretly taking out key figures, I'll send you those figures identities in a bit." Sect Leader Fu turned her head to see Swordlife assenting his orders.
"Yinlife, you'll be supporting Swordlife in getting rid of key targets on the battlefield. With your group controlling abilities it'll be easy for you to draw attention away from Swordlife.

Nolife and Mindlife. You two are taking a trip to a special region to resolve an issue. This place has a strong mental force field which causes a bunch of pressure for the mind. I'm sending you two because you both have the strongest mental strength amongst the Dragonknight's.
Of course I am aware that although your strengths have improved tremendously, it is nowhere near the level of changing a war. That's where my Elders and teachers I have selected come in. They will be the main focus but you all are surprises." Sect Leader Fu couldn't help but give an enchanting smile that held some wickedness within.
After discussing more things she spoke to each of them to privately brief them.
"Nolife, the region I'm having you and Mindlife go to is within Cemetery Hills of the Holy Beast Kingdom. That place is basically a giant beast graveyard. You can find lingering spirits and also some clans within. Work together with Mindlife to resolve the issue there and after that head to the Ming Clan for a visit. I want you both at the Ming Clan in half a year." Sect Leader Fu gave a brief rundown and seemed as if she was about to skirt off at any moment.
"Sect Leader Fu, what issue am I resolving that it'll take me 6 months to do?" Akata couldn't help but ask.
Turning her head, Fu opened her lips softly and muttered in the most blandest voice possible. "Given your current strength, it would take you at least 3 months to reach Cemetery Hills, considering how skilled and adept you are, you could possibly solve the issue within a months time maybe less. Then you would have to spend the remaining two months rushing to the Ming Clan. Which would normally take 3 months of travel. This is also my evaluation with you obtaining the Second Rank during your time in Cemetery Hills. So you should first worry about how you will succeed in not only the mission but also the time limit, and stop pestering me about information I'm clearly abstaining you from." With that she turned and vanished.
Akata was left at a loss. "What did I do to make her so flustered…"
Whoosh. Sect Leader Fu appeared in a room and held her hands to her head. "Ugh why does he annoy me so much. I don't even know why I lost control of my emotions right then and there." Taking in a deep breath she eventually collected herself. "Okay it's time I send them on their way."
She took a few turns and made her way to a great hall. This was the main hall of Red Cloud Palace Hall. A small group of 8 people were within. These 8 people were the other members selected by Sect Leader Fu to be on the Cloud Corps. They were split into two groups, four would go to Akata while the other four would go to Swordlife.
After briefing the small group, Sect Leader Fu had the Dragonknights come in. The Cloud Corps members eyes shone with respect and reverence. They knew what kind of skill and strength was needed in order to be a member of this group, let alone a leading figure. Even Pulong Chu, who was chosen as General of the Army, wasn't as strong as these four figures.
The identities of the Dragonknights were made secret so not even the members knew who they were. It wasn't like they could find out either because they would be away from the sect. The Dragonknights themselves couldn't reveal their own identity.

"Sun Cloud Corps. Dragonknight Leader Swordlife step forward. Vice Dragonknight Yinlife step forward. Cloud Corps members Life Won, Life Too, Life Thrie, Life Foor step forward. You'll be heading to the battlefield so be prepared to go deep behind enemy lines. We're going to get a head start and move first." Sect Leader Fu had the mannerism of a commander so every sentence she spoke created a sense of pressure on everyone.
"Moon Cloud Corps. Dragonknight Leader Nolife step forward. Vice Dragonknight Mindlife step forward. Cloud Corps members Life Ayy, Life Bee, Life Sea, Life Ddee step forward. You'll head to a special region under the direction of Nolife. Follow his orders and make it back out alive."
When the Cloud Corps members heard the names of the Dragonknights they couldn't help but wonder. Swordlife? Mindlife and Yinlife? Maybe they were skilled in those respective things. But Nolife? What did that signify? Could he have the skill to bring an end to all life? This inwardly made the members a bit fearful towards Akata.
Of course, if they knew that Sect Leader Fu gave Akata this name to make fun of him…
Akata and Mindlife met with their group to get familiar with them. With the both of them being Dragonknights, however, they were already given information on their teammates. They knew everything from their names to the techniques they trained in. Of course reading a report and actually seeing something were two different concepts so Akata would definitely find some time to test their ability.
After vaguely familiarizing themselves with each other the groups were separated. The Moon Cloud Corps made their way to the teleportation device nearby. Akata gave a slight nod to the Sun Cloud Corps before he headed off.
The Cloud Corps was basically an elite super team of prodigies trained to go on assassin like missions. Therefore they all had to be strong and be able to survive in multiple situations. Since they had to be crafty and secretive, they barely had anything with them, mostly just the clothes on their backs.
It didn't take long to depart and after a few minutes the Moon Cloud Corps was gone.
The teleportation array could only go so far. With the abilities of the Elders they could make teleportation arrays that could travel across this world, but they would be too extravagant and would easily be discovered by others and create a bunch of unneeded headaches. So they built some low-level arrays and just connected them with random arrays somewhat nearby.
Akata and the rest of the Moon Cloud Corps appeared within another teleportation array.
"Hey! Who are you all?!" A nearby guard yelled at the 6 people that suddenly showed up.
Akata looked this man over and could see that he was a First Rank Grade 6 cultivator. The lowest cultivation in his group was Grade 7. Not only that but this guard was actually over 30 years old.
"Where are we?" Akata directly asked a question. Seeming to have forgotten that the guard asked one first.
Baffled at the question and then enraged at being ignored, the guard's demeanor changed. "I said who are you?! What are you doing in my Rock Bottom Sect?!" His voice was raised and caught the attention of other fellow members of the sect. Soon a crowd started gathering.
Akata paid no mind to this as he was thinking. "Rock Bottom Sect? That should be a sect Southwest of our Red Cloud Sect. It looks like we're going in the right direction." Akata already had a map of the area in his mind so he didn't need to ask for directions.
With a nod of his head he led his group away from the teleportation array and in the direction of Cemetery Hill.
"Wait!" A mighty voice echoed throughout the sect. "You think you can appear in our sect and just ignore our existence? Ha! Think again. Now, give us the answers we want. Who are you and why are you here?" The guard once more stated his words and even brazenly stepped in front of their path.
Akata looked directly at this man. The man couldn't see his face because the members of Cloud Corps covered their faces with masks.
Although the guard couldn't see Akata's face clearly he could feel a powerful pressure emanating from him. And this was with Akata just standing there casually. The people behind him didn't look like pushovers either.
But the guard had already started up a commotion and gathered many members of his sect. He couldn't back away and look like a coward now.
"I'm Nolife. Just passing by sorry to intrude." With that Akata kept on his way. Walking past the guard as if he wasn't there. The others followed suit.
"Heh. To think a bunch of youngans are so bold these days. Ryu, teach them a lesson will you." A voice filled with might rang out. This voice broke through everyone's noise to reign supreme.
"That's a Second Rank cultivator, from the aura his voice gives off he should be a low tier Second Ranker." Akata's thoughts instantly spun. With his abilities he could no doubt handle a Second Ranker. At the moment he was thinking if he should escape with his team now or wait and see how things unfold.
A burly young man appeared in front of the crowd. Akata glanced at him and noted his strength. He spun his gaze across the crowd and then spoke out to the Second Ranker that sent out Ryu.
"Excuse me, I didn't mean to offend you. We happened to appear at this array by mistake and just wish to be on our way."
"Heh. I can tell you're all young yet have such strength. You definitely have treasures on you worth seizing. Ryu take those treasures from them." The Second Ranker stated his intentions without the slightest bit of shame.
Akata was stunned. If it wasn't for the mask on his face everyone would be able to see his mouth agape. In fact, even his other teammates were flabbergasted. To think an elder would treat juniors like this just based on sight. He had no moral conscious whatsoever.
There was no further point in discussing matters with this sect. Since a Second Rank cultivator already gave the go ahead, the disciples and others wouldn't let Akata and his group go.
"I just started this mission yet I'm already in trouble." Akata shook his head. They had to hurry and get this mission over with so he couldn't use all his time fighting. They were still a long way from Cemetery Hill.
"How about we make a deal senior?" Akata suddenly spoke up once again. The whole time he put on a calm and confident demeanor.

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
