《Forsaking Reality》Chapter 106: Awaiting Departure (2)

Akata’s skin felt as if it were blazing in a searing volcano while his blood felt as if it were freezing in an arctic environment. By themselves it wouldn’t be considered much to Akata but then these two effects started to interact with each other. His blood would melt and then evaporate until it turned to ice shards and start over again. This made his blood vessels tear up from the inside all over the place in his body.
Along with his blood vessels tearing up, his skin was simultaneously cracking up from the repeated heating and cooling it was experiencing and continuously fell off his body. Also his skin would often melt off slowly or freeze up and cause even more pain. These things were already hard to deal with but then an extra effect of the pill kicked in. It was the healing aspect of the pill which continuously healed Akata from whatever happened to him. No matter how much skin or blood he lost it would always regenerate and repeat its process of being destroyed.
Even though it was arduous, Akata gritted his teeth and sat in the bath unmoving. He didn’t wail even once or let a sound escape his mouth. This was a painful experience but he could gradually feel his body becoming much more tougher than it had been.
In truth, this pill wasn’t meant to have such a painful effect on the body. That was because it was a pill meant for beasts. Beasts had bodies that were comparable to their cultivation level or greater. The Beast Body Pill was meant to be given to the geniuses of the competition and it was sure to land in the hands of a beast at least at the 8th Grade of the First Rank. The process would be the same for them but the pain would be much more tolerable for them.
Akata’s body, however, was only comparable to the 6th Grade of the First Rank. Even the weakest beast in the competition had a body that was a bit stronger than Akata’s.Therefore it could be seen how lacking his body strength was. But Akata knew this, which was why he decided to go through with using this pill.
‘I’ll see these effects through and gain a body comparable to the 10th Grade of the First Rank. I want to reach the pinnacle of strength and to do that I have to have a strong body as well as cultivation level.’ Akata focused his mind on maintaining a calm state. He wanted the pill to do its work as best as it could without any interference from him.

The Beast Body Pill was extremely powerful for anyone who’s body was under the Second Rank. Therefore it took a whole quarter of the day before the effects started to wear off. Akata breathed a sigh of relief as he scanned his body for the changes it had went through. Although it was still in the First Rank, it had progressed by leaps and bounds.
‘My skin feels as hard as iron and my blood feels as tough as spider’s silk. My internal organs should be as strong as my skin. Overall my body feels really tough. I should be able to become number 1 in the cabins with just my body alone.’ Akata thought to himself.
He stood up from the bath and went to put his clothes on. All of the substance that was in the bath was fully absorbed into his body. Akata dressed himself quickly and made his way to Tabet. He didn’t notice it but as he was dressing himself, crimson red scales had appeared on his back for a really brief moment. They flashed on his body and disappeared in the next instant.
Not even Noluck was able to see these crimson scales that had appeared on Akata’s body. Eventually, Akata stood dressed and walked toward Tabet’s room. He felt as if he were brimming with utter power. As if a single breath from him could topple a mountain with ease.
“Akata! How did it go? Are you alright? I tried to use my own pill and it was kinda painful to me. I found that the lower your body strength the more pain the pill would cause. It must have been really painful for you.” Tabet immediately asked Akata about his experience with the Beast Body Pill. It was actually really painful. Normally, someone at Akata’s level would have been seriously injured or even died from the pain.
“Ahaha. I’m fine. It was nothing really, just a bit tingly that’s all. I feel much better now though.” Akata replied laughingly. “I should have a body comparable to the 8th Grade.” Akata also said.
This was true as breaking through to multiple levels at one time was extremely dangerous. Over time his body would continuously get stronger until it made its way to the 10th Grade. That way the foundation would be stronger and there would be less drawbacks.
“Mn.” Tabet nodded his head. “My grandfather also wants me to give you this Spiritual Growth Pill. Here.” Tabet held out his paw and in it could be seen a sparkling purple pill the size of a fingernail. It sparkled brightly and immediately caught Akata’s attention. However, in the next instant he pushed it away.

“I can’t accept this, it’s too much. You all have already done so much for me and I haven’t really done anything. I don’t even deserve something as precious as this pill for myself. Have your tribe keep it.” Akata said as he rejected the pill.
“No no no. My grandfather specifically said to give this to you no matter what. My tribe already has some of these pills and in the future more of these will be available to use. So this really wouldn’t be that important.” Tabet paused for a moment before speaking up once more in a hushed tone.
“My grandfather, father, and the other leaders of the tribe all want you to have this, not because you saved our lives, but also because…” He paused once again as if to review what he was about to say. Finally with a sigh he continued on. “Because when it comes to cultivation and insights you are an absolute monster. While only at the 7th Grade and with a weak body such as yours, you’re able to match up against the strongest youth beasts in the Great Aka Tribe. This has really impressed my grandfather and the elders of the tribe. They want to make sure you continue to grow and will remember this kindness in the future.” Tabet said as he pushed his paw out further toward Akata.
Akata looked on helplessly as he saw the pill in Tabet’s hand. Finally, after a long bit of thought, Akata took the pill from Tabet’s hand. ‘It’s better to take it than not to take it.’ He thought to himself.
Tabet gave a wide smile as he gestured to Akata to follow him. “Come come. My father wants to meet with you.” Akata reluctantly followed along. Inside he was lightly cursing Tabet.
‘They want to use me as a possible pillar to support them in the future? I can see why but is it really necessary to try and win me over with material goods?’ Akata thought to himself. He glanced at the pill in his hand and then put it away into his bag. It didn’t take long before Akata came before Scarlet Runic Lord Tafei, Tabet’s father.
Akata bowed down slightly and said, “You wish to see me?” Even though Akata felt safe around the Scarlet Tiger’s he was still wary of them. Tabet was one thing but the others posed a threat to him. They could plot anything for their own benefit and Akata wouldn’t be able to resist in the slightest. So even though he felt grateful to them, he was still careful when dealing and interacting with them.
“Mn.” Scarlet Runic Lord Tafei nodded his head. “Tabet, would you mind leaving us two alone.” He said and watched as Tabet walked away thoughtfully. “It looks as if you have taken our gifts of departure and it also looks as if you are ready to leave at any time. I remember when you first arrived on our island about two months ago. You just suddenly popped out of nowhere and then you changed everything. Now, you’re about to leave.” He looked as if he were recalling things of the past and then he sighed.
“Do you really have to leave? It would be one thing if you stay with us. We could nurture you into a strong warrior and protect you for as long as you need. But once you go back there’s no telling what might happen.” Scarlet Runic Lord Tafei looked thoughtfully at Akata for a moment.
Akata obviously knew what he was hinting at. If he went back to stay with mortals then they would have to become enemies once again. That was because mortals and beasts were natural enemies to begin with. It was also possible that Akata would divulge their secrets and aid the mortals. He may even come back to wipe them out.
“I do have to go back. I was punished by my sect and banished for two months. I was told to survive and if I did I could go back. Now it is almost time to return. I have no choice in the matter.” Akata replied calmly. He knew there was no other way out of this situation. He would have to return eventually and if the sect wanted him back then he couldn’t say no.
“If it has to be that way then.” Scarlet Runic Lord Tafei sighed once again. A look of determination flashed across his face. He stretched out his paw and made a grasping motion toward Akata. Instantly, Akata was hurdled over toward him.

My Newest, and at the same time, Oldest novel. This is a Rewrite of my very first novel that I begun when I was just starting out. It follows the story of Mark Floyd, a broken man who once tried to do what he thought was right... only to be stabbed in the back and thrown away. Now, pulled into a conflict that spans time and space, Mark has a choice to make; Stand up once more, even if it means facing an unknowable future, or let the Embers of his heart die and sink back into darkness. ----------------------------------- “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity”. Once part of a Special Ops team in the US Army, Mark Floyd thought he had seen the worst that Humanity had to offer. That was until his final mission, one that would leave him a broken and shattered man, betrayed by the Country he served, and abandoned by society as a whole. His dreams filled with nightmares of the ones he failed to protect, mind and memories clouded by booze and more, Mark finds himself stumbling through life without purpose or desire. Life isn't done with Mark yet, however. For as long as even a single ember remains in a persons heart, here is still yet hope for the flames of Passion and Hope to be Rekindled. When the dying embers of Mark's heart catches the eyes of a Being far beyond his understanding, Mark finds himself thrown into a situation not even his years of training could prepare him for. Will this new chance be Mark's hope at both Redemption and Recompense? Or will it simply be the final nail in the coffin for a man already dead to the World? [This is a rework of my very first story. The general story will remain the same, however a few details have been tweaked, the chapters have be Edited better and some chapters have been broken down into smaller chunks for better flow and consistency. The biggest change will be to the System itself; It will be a lot less "Game-like", meaning no stats, levels or similar aspect, though skills will still be present in the form of "Programs". Instead, It'll focus more on the Sigil's nature as super-computers and how they change the world around them. This should make for a much more "natural" and less info-dumpy system.

Theo Lane is chosen to be the avatar of a deity to partake in a tournament to decide the One God. He isn’t the only one. No. There are a lot more than he would like. Of course the apathetic high-school student would never agree to the desperate pleas of the said goddess, but there was a reward for the winner. He could become a god himself if he won. The greatest hassle was the stage itself. Instead of Earth, it would be on another planet with technology similar to the medieval ages with a few twists. A planet thrice the size of Earth with denizens of its own, with a history of its own. There was only one wish in his life, and that was to bring back the one he failed to protect. If murdering every other person in the world was what it would take, so be it. It was his only chance.
