《Forsaking Reality》Chapter 24: Akata’s Ruthlessness

Akata wasn’t discouraged by the fact that the three-headed dog took on his hit and wasn’t affected, instead he felt relieved. If he was able to severely injure it in one hit then that meant the creature was weak, so what would be the point of absorbing its blood. Although if it was weak he still would’ve absorbed it anyway.
The enraged dog pounced towards Akata with its fangs in an attempt to bite him. Akata increased the pressure of his nature energy to its full potential and also rotated his red rune. He stood in the same place and pulled his arm back once more and clenched his hand into a fist. The dog was jumping towards him and it was above him. Akata was under it, facing its fangs.
Bang!
Akata punched the nose of the dog and pushed it back about three meters. It landed on the ground with a ‘thud’ and blood oozed out of it. It whimpered some but managed to stand up once more to face Akata, its aura becoming more chaotic.
Akata was pushed back about two meters which came as a huge surprise to him. ‘It’s able to push me back some?’ He thought and then went in to charge at the dog. ‘I’ll just finish this up quickly.’
A red light flashed through his eyes as he charged at the dog. His hands were covered with a red glow that made it look like they were covered in blood. He was in front of the dog in an instant and punched out. “Take this!”
The fist strike was powerful and it approached with an astonishing speed. Wham! Akata’s fist connected… with the ground. “Huh? What’s going on? I could’ve sworn that dog was right here.”
Akata calmed his nature energy down and stretched it out to the maximum distance. “There.” He rushed off in the distance and unleashed another punch but it was the same result. The punch just went straight through and the dog vanished.
Akata was getting more and more frustrated as his attacks kept on missing. “AAARGH! STOP HIDING YOU COWARD!”
“As you wish.”
A cold voice filled with murderous intent locked onto Akata. It was so cold it made his spine shiver. He immediately spun his red and gold rune vigorously. A red and gold light emanated out of Akata’s body. One of his eyes became a deeper crimson color while the other took on gold appearance. ‘It can talk?!’
Akata turned around and struck out without hesitation. All this happened in the blink of an eye. From the time Akata heard the voice to the time he punched out. By the time he had turned around he could see a claw coming his way.
Boom!
The claw and the fist connected. Akata was pushed back five meters. The dog was also pushed back five meters. It was dead even.
‘How does it keep gaining strength? Or is it just toying with me? No that shouldn’t be the case considering that I caused it to bleed. It’s sneak attacks are troublesome and if it continues to grow then I won’t be able to handle it any longer.’
One of Akata’s pupils were completely golden while the other was a deep red. Akata pulled his arm back and stood there. Soon an illusory rock the size of a fingernail appeared on top of his fist. The illusory rock seemed to glow with red and gold colors as it appeared. The pressure in the area became stifling and hard to bear.

Soon the surrounding energy was being absorbed by the illusory rock at a shocking speed. Normally once Akata punched out and sent the rock flying it would automatically absorb energy. But now Akata was controlling it to absorb energy, this made the energy absorption process even more shocking.
The illusory rock was soon the size of his head. Sweat dripped down from his forehead and his face was pale. ‘This is my limit and can’t absorb anymore.’ Akata threw his fist out into the air. The illusory rock hurdled into the sky still absorbing the surrounding energy. Akata fell down to the ground and was heaving huge breaths.
“Hahaha brat you’re pretty dumb. I admit I was a little scared by that technique of yours but it seems you can’t even control it. Now since you’re out of energy I happily rip you to shreds and take your blood just as you did my clones.” The voice was sinister and overbearing. It brought a sense of pressure down on Akata that he couldn’t resist.
The three headed dog slowly walked over to Akata savoring what it was about to do. A low growl could be heard coming from it and spit was drooling from its mouth. All of a sudden its face changed dramatically to become unsightly.
“Wha… just what is that?! The pressure from it is outstanding. You! Brat! What did you do?! Was this your doing?! No it can’t be, this is too much even for you.” All six of the dog's eyes went wide as it looked up into the sky.
What it saw was a giant meteor about ten meters long and wide coming down at a shocking speed. The pressure from it weighed down on the dog making sure that it couldn’t move an inch. The fur on the dog had since become drenched in cold sweat. It lowered its head to look with fear at Akata. “SPARE ME!”
“Since I’ve already made the choice to absorb your blood then I have to go through with it.” Akata said this in the most calmest voice he had ever spoken. It was so calm that he himself was frightened by it. He shook his head and stood up. The pressure emanating off of him caused the dog to kneel down on the ground.
Akata looked at the dog. He pointed his hand up toward the illusory giant meteor and took a deep breath. He lowered his hand to point straight at the dog. It was so frightened that it had actually peed itself.
“Thirty breaths.”
BANG!
The illusory meteor crushed the three headed dog without any resistance whatsoever. Since Akata was the controller of the technique then naturally it didn’t hurt him in the slightest. It simply passed through him just like illusory items should. Akata waved his hand which caused the blood of the beast that was splattered everywhere to congregate together.
The blood of the beast moved out to hover in front of Akata where he sat down and began absorbing it. After about ten hours he finally absorbed the last of the blood of the beast. He let out a long breath and sat there thinking.
“So that beast was a Hellhound and it had a cultivation base at the Docile Rank Grade 3? But the pressure that came from it made it seem like it was at least Grade 4, or even higher than that. The creatures that the Elders gather are all weird.” Akata shook his head as he came to this conclusion.

“In any case that blood helped me a lot. I was even able to increase my cultivation up to the 3rd Grade. The blood also contained a few techniques in it, but it’s too bad most of them I can’t cultivate. Like the Phantom Hounds technique, which allows for one to create clones. Unfortunately you can only use it if you were born with a piece of the founding Hellhound's soul.” Akata shook his head rather disappointed but then his eyes lit up.
“But these two techniques that I can use are simply amazing. The Searing Heat of the Underworld skill which is an offensive technique and Demonic Wraith which acts as more of a support. It’s too bad the Hellhound didn’t have the time to use it against me.” Akata shook his head once more.
“This Searing Heat of the Underworld will allow me to cultivate hellfire which can even burn the soul into ash with ease. There are six levels to this technique, I can’t wait to get started on this. And the Demonic Wraith skill allows me to do many things such as become invisible for a period of time, become intangible, and cause hallucinations. There are three levels to this and each one will improve the skill greatly.”
Second Elder was watching the whole thing and between Akata and the Hellhound. She was surprised to see Akata improve at such an astonishing speed and even complete her first training session in such a short amount of time. To her it would’ve taken a genius at least two months to complete her task, but Akata did it in a little over two weeks.
Even though she was surprised by the speed of Akata’s improvement, she was more astonished by fact Akata was able to fight the true body of the Hellhound. “That last Hellhound had a cultivation base equivalent to the Mortal Rank Grade 4, a whole two levels above what Akata was at. Not only that, but in its fight against Akata, it was using its Demonic Wraith the whole time. Not to mention the invisibility the Hellhound was in or the hallucinations being thrown at Akata the whole time, but it was also intangible yet Akata was able to hit it multiple times.”
She was truly astonished by the fact Akata was able to hit something that wasn’t even in physical form. She was going to pull Akata out of the testing room but then thought that even he didn’t know and so she just left him to absorb the blood. After he was done she took Akata out of the room.
“But what is frightening about all of this… is that last technique he used. Even with his current cultivation base it was truly destructive. How can so much power be exhibited from him?”
Akata opened his eyes to see himself in an all white room. It was none other than the Space-time Scenario Chamber. “So I was in the Space-time Scenario Chamber after all?” When Akata was in the unknown place he had thought that he was in the formation room Third Elder had made. But he had pushed that thought aside as Second Elder said he was going to a different secret location. So he was surprised to see himself in the Space-time Scenario Chamber.
“No, you weren’t in the Space-time Scenario Chamber just now. The place you were in was a separate dimension that is unknown to the rest of this world. That is why it is secret and why I didn’t want to show you where it was. I just brought you here so that you can start your other training.” Second Elder appeared in front of Akata and made this statement. Her voice was calm as she spoke to him.
“I see.” Akata looked around and then thought of something. “Umm Second and Third Elder… what was that creature? How was it able to talk?” When the hellhound had spoken earlier it had truly stunned Akata.
“If mortals can learn to speak why can’t other beings?” Second Elder replied.
Akata was still confused but from the answer Second Elder gave he could tell that there was more to it than that.
“Great now that you have finally finished with that you have to challenge a cabin now. It has been about a week so go out there and challenge the seventh ranked disciple now.” Third Elder said almost joyfully.
Akata nodded and bowed his head. “Disciple will now go and challenge the seventh cabin.” He turned and headed toward the door to leave the Space-time Scenario Chamber.
“Oh and one more thing Akata.” Second Elder suddenly spoke out. Akata stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her. “You’re not allowed to use your runes in your cabin fights. So do be careful.” Her voice was soft and angelic like it had come from the heavens themselves.
“Ah?! No runes? Then how am I supposed to fight then?” Akata’s eyes went wide and he began to panic. He had yet to fight without his runes. He truly didn’t know to what extent he could go if he fought without them.
“What do you mean how are you supposed to fight? Just like every other cultivator, with magic and body skills. I’m starting to think something really is wrong with you.” Third Elder voiced his thoughts as his eye twitched.
“B… but I don’t even know how to use magic properly. That means I’ll only have my body to combat the seventh ranked person.” Akata was becoming increasingly flustered.
“Well then kid think of this as my training for you then. You’re not allowed to use magic or your runes in this duel. I only want to see you use your body to fight your way to victory. First Elder is a body cultivator and he can beat Second Elder and I alone with just those skills. I’m sure you can beat the seventh ranked person with just your body. But if you can’t then you get a punishment.” Third Elder gave a cold smile and the air around him became weird.
Akata could sense this change and he swallowed some saliva that was building in his throat. He didn’t know what the punishment was or could be but he didn’t want to find out. He nodded his head and then turned to leave out of the Space-time Scenario Chamber.

Conquest of Avalon
Revenge. The Kingdom of Avalon swept across the Empire of the Fox a generation past, conquering the heartlands and leaving the broken remnants to stew in the island duchy of Guerron. This isn't a story of Good versus Evil, of kindly kings doing their best to lift all subjects, or of unvarnished heroes doing battle against evil. Instead, this story is about power: who has it, who wants it, and what people will do to obtain it. It is about the violence inherent in the imperial project and how even the most well-intentioned rulers and conquerors are, still, engaging in systemic violence against those conquered and defeated. Our three point-of-view characters are a peasant turned fire wizard, an excitable duelist with more enthusiasm than sense, and a scheming mage-priestess bent on reclaiming her family's birthright and waging war on the foreign oppressors who rule her home... no matter the cost in blood or treasure.
