《Forsaking Reality》Chapter 5: Unexpected Developments

Xi Fe and Ming Xu were approaching Akata at top speed. Just as they caught sight of the barrier surrounding his room, it vanished. They had frowns on when they saw it and were about to discuss ways to get past it when it dispersed. At first they were confused but then sent that to the back of their minds as they headed to Akata’s direction.
They didn’t have to go far as when they got close they saw Akata standing there. When they saw him they immediately thought that there was something very strange and different about him. His black spiky hair that reached to the back of his neck swayed in the wind. His red robe fluttering as if it was the flame of his life that was swaying. And his fierce red eyes showed with a fighting will that couldn’t be extinguished by anyone.
Akata pushed his urge to fight to the side and put on a genuine smile to replace it. He put a hand in the air and waved it towards the two. “Yoo! Long time no see elder brother Fe and elder sister Xu, what brings you two over here in a hurry.”
The two stopped running when they saw Akata greeting them in such a casual manner. Their suspicions immediately grew higher. At first they thought that Xiun Wu was being a bit excessive with his request, as Akata was severely injured and also very weak. Nothing he did could put him as a threat to Xiun Wu, but since they followed him they did what he said anyways to clear his doubts. They thought that with the both of them then no matter how strong Akata might have became he wouldn’t be a match for them. But then they saw his confidence even when seeing both of them arrive. Not only that, but it looked like he knew they were coming, as if he was able to sense his surroundings, something only Elders were capable of doing.
The two glanced at each other and tried to dispel any such thoughts. They looked toward Akata and then scoffed.
“I don’t know how you knew we were coming but it doesn’t matter. Since you know that we were coming, you must also know why we’re here so how about you just give us your arm so that we don’t have to take it.” Xi Fe spoke this in a cold voice. He was only around 17 years of age but his voice was cold enough to have some adults tremble with fear.
Akata looked indifferently towards Xi Fe and said, “I don’t feel like it, how about another time after I get some rest then I’ll play.” Akata stretched his arms and faked a yawn.
Xi Fe’s face grew dark and he was about to yell out when Ming Xu cut him off. “Akata it seems you’ve changed some, maybe you found some good fortune. How about you share all of it with us and we can put this behind us. We might even put a good word in with Xiun Wu.” Ming Xu tilted her head and spoke in an angelic voice that carried a hint of coldness. She spoke the word “all” with emphasis directly implying that if he didn’t agree there would be repercussions.
Akata frowned at the words of Ming Xu, her words weren’t any better than Xi Fe’s. He wasn’t the type to be bullied and not retort back. Even when he felt weaker he would fight back, although he would lose in the end.
Seeing that he wasn’t replying Xi Fe lost all patience and started walking toward Akata. Ming Xu did nothing to stop him this time, her eyes glowing with an equally cold light.

It was then that a flash of light passed through between Akata and Xi Fe. Xi Fe instantly stopped and Akata was shaken, he didn’t sense this person approaching even though he was constantly surveying his surroundings. Xi Fe’s and Ming Xu’s faces were unsightly as they saw the figure stop between them and Akata.
She was a young woman of about 20 and wore a silver robe that glittered in the wind. Her hair was pitch black and her eyes were equally dark as well. Her snow white skin shined brightly and her figure was smooth and round. She looked like a celestial being.
“Oh? It seems that I still can’t control floating yet. My apologizes junior brother Fe and Little Xu Xu, did I disturb you? It seems that learning to fly is quite the challenge indeed. Tehehe.” Her voice was pleasant to listen to but to Xi Fe and Ming Xu it was dreadful. Their faces became dark and unsightly.
“Ming Lu what is the meaning of this?!” It wasn’t Xi Fe who asked this but Ming Xu, her voice containing coldness and jealousy.
“Ah Little Xu Xu how’s it been? Is your training going well? You should really spend more time focusing on that instead of chasing after boys.” Ming Lu spoke with kind soft words that didn’t contain a hint of malice. She spoke with sincerity and love towards her younger sister.
“Cut the crap! Why are you interfering with our work?! It’s none of your concern so get lost will ya!” Xi Fe had lost his temper long ago and didn’t even think as the words came out of his mouth.
Ming Lu’s face instantly darkened and a cold gleam could be seen flashing across her eyes. She took a step forward and was in front of Xi Fe in the blink of an eye. She lifted her palm to reveal a white rune she drew and casted it towards him. The rune transformed into a snowflake where it started increasing in numbers.
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64…
The number of flakes kept doubling until the area around Xi Fe looked like a blizzard was upon him. The snowflakes were sharp and cut his skin when they made contact, soon he was covered in cuts and was bleeding all over. The blood merged with the snowflakes seemingly making them stronger and able to cut him further and deeper. Xi Fe was howling with pain causing a crowd of disciples nearby to rush over and see what was going on.
“Is that Demoness Lu?! The disciple ranked number 2 in the entire sect?!”
“Her Blood Snow Tempest still looks to be the most fierce technique in the sect.”
“I’ve never seen it before, what is it?”
“It’s a technique she created after gaining enlightenment from almost dying in a blizzard. Some say that she was attacked by a strong beast and when her blood mixed in with the snow she created a strong technique that was able to kill it. She then used the beast’s body to nourish her own giving her a beast’s strength on top of her own. Making her that much stronger!”
Cries of astonishments and discussions like these rang up everywhere around the battle going on right now. Instead of a battle though it would be more accurate to say a one-sided brawl.
Ming Lu saw the crowd but didn’t decrease her attack in the slightest. That was her personality, if something upset her she would fix it until it no longer did. Since Xi Fe upset her she wasn’t going to let a few measly onlookers stop her. It’s not like she was going to kill him, she had her boundaries and knew when to stop, otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten the power she had now.

By now all of the snowflakes were bloody and swirling around Xi Fe like a tempest not letting him out and causing increasing damage to him. Akata looked on with wide eyes, this was a kind of power he had never seen before and ruthlessness to match. “If I can follow her example then maybe I can become that strong too. Maybe I can even face her head on in the future.” At the thought of this Akata’s eyes gleamed with the desire to fight, and his fighting will almost burst out.
Ming Xu was pale faced and her eyes bulged outwards. The sight of seeing her partner being mutilated right in front of her left her dumbstruck. Especially since it was her own older sister performing the mutilation. She suddenly came back to her thoughts, gritted her teeth and yelled, “ELDER SISTER STOP RIGHT NOW!!!” Her voice was no longer angelic but contained a mix of emotion such as hatred, helplessness, and fear.
The Blood Snow Tempest shook a bit and then started to disperse bit by bit, leaving the area it was located in for all to see. On the ground could be seen Xi Fe, covered in wounds and lacerations, making his appearance hard to recognize. In fact if the people didn’t know who was in the tempest in the first place they wouldn’t recognize him at all. Blood surrounded the area making the place seem like a small scale war zone. The flowers, grass, and dirt were all stained red from his blood being showered upon them. He lay there gasping for air on the verge of becoming unconscious.
Ming Lu still had a cold look in her eye as she stared at Xi Fe laying on the ground. She snorted coldly, “A measly Grade 3 disciple dares to speak to me that way and can’t even defend against my [Blood Snow Tempest] for a few breaths of time.” She turned her head not paying any further attention to him, and instead looked at her sister, Ming Xu, where she gave a slight smile. The coldness and pressure she emitted went away almost instantly as if it was like nothing ever even happened.
Ming Xu gave an inward sigh of relief, although she knew her sister wouldn’t kill Xi Fe, she didn’t want him to get too badly hurt. Because if it continued she knew her sister would tear his cultivation foundation up. She didn’t let any of this show on her face though. Because Ming Lu hated weakness, if she saw the look of relief on Ming Xu’s face, then she would continue on attacking Xi Fe relentlessly.
“Yo Little Xu Xu as I was saying before I was interrupted by some insect moments ago, you should focus on cultivating more. You’re still always welcome to come study under me. Even though you’re ranked 8 in the sect you’re still far too weak. Just look what I did with the boy ranked 6 in the sect. He couldn’t even stand up to my attack for 2 breaths of time before wailing out and collapsing on the ground.” Even though Ming Lu was ridiculing Xi Fe in the most open and direct way possible she spoke with love and care because she truly wanted the best for her sister.
“Absolutely not! I’ll become stronger than you on my own and eventually end up beating you in battle with my own strength.” Ming Xu gritted her teeth and said no further words to her sister. She went towards Xi Fe picked him up and looked menacingly at Ming Lu, then toward Akata with a coldness that could freeze fire. After that she sped off in the distance toward the medicine hall.
“Sigh… Shoot yourself then Little Xu Xu.” Ming Lu closed her eyes and shook her head. She then turned to look towards Akata, her face not revealing any of her thoughts as she looked at him. She looked at him for about 3 breaths of time before she started saying something.
“I can see potential in you. Right now you have strength but not so much as to handle the top 3 disciples of the sect. You might be able to be ranked fourth in the sect but definitely not higher as of now. But I admire strong opponents and if you can turn into one, all the better for my training. I have an ability I gained from the sect that allows me to see some of your future potential and when I saw yours I immediately rushed over here. All the top 3 disciples have this ability so we were aware of you. Xiun Wu ranked third sent my sister and that insect over to test you, and I just wanted to see you for myself. Seeing your potential it wouldn’t be wise to show your power around so I have a bit of a deal for you. Allow me to personally observe you and if you accept then I’ll let you train under me, how about it? Not bad, right?”
Akata’s mouth gaped opened and his eyes went wide. He wasn’t the only one, everyone who heard the words of Ming Lu were astonished to the extreme. A chance to train under the second ranked disciple of the sect, and not only that but the extremely beautiful Ming Lu! It was like killing two birds with one stone. Some people became extremely envious, some felt depressed, and others enraged.
“How could Demoness Ming Lu even look at the weakest disciple in the sect? Let alone ask if he wants to learn under her?!” Roared one disciple.
“The things I would do to be in Akata’s spot right now!”
“That should be Demoness Ming Lu asking me that!!”
Outbursts like this were heard everywhere as soon as Ming Lu finished her words. The crowd had a mix of emotions going on. But they all had one thing in common. They wanted to be in Akata’s place right now.
Akata looked at Ming Lu with a deep look on his face. He was thinking of the consequences whether good or bad that would come out if he accepted. Ming Lu looked at Akata as he was in deep thought and she chuckled. She cleared her throat and then said, “If you train under me then you’ll have the strength needed to beat Xiun Wu without even having to lift a leg.” She especially emphasized the name Xiun Wu towards Akata.
When Akata heard Ming Lu say this his mind instantly went spinning and the thought of fighting him made his blood rush through his veins and the red rune in his heart to pulse.
He clapped his hands together and bowed deeply. “Student Kaminari Akata greets Master Lu.”
