《Author Vs Protagonist》Chapter 10: Quest

Zhang Wei thought grimly, how the heck did it explode? I followed everything Vincent said perfectly. After not being able to think of a solution, Zhang Wei asked the system, “Hey sh*tty system, is there a mistake in my refinement method?”.
System’s mechanical voice replied, “User’s method is flawed and is heavily reliant on luck. Normal people typically only need 1 point of luck to succeed with a Level 1 refinement. However, user’s luck is pretty much equal to dogsh*t. It’s better if you do not refine anything, lest it takes away your pitiful life.” Ignoring the system again, he finally noticed his problem.
So it’s my luck huh. I have always wondered why my luck despite being a -30 did not have any effect yet. Turns out any action that requires luck will be an automatic fail.Zhang Wei felt gloomy. If this situation continued, it was possible that he could not even refine anything in his lifetime. Then he remembered that Author is an omnipotent being that could change reality. He thought of threatening the Author, but based on the Author’s personality, the Author would just make it worse. He decided to just beg. “Oi sh*tty Author, make can’t you make my luck better? How am I suppose to make an incredible saga if I can’t even do something as simple as pill refining?”.
Author’s excited voice rang, “Zhang Wei feeling helpless at his failure in pill refining, decided to beg God for a solution. However, seeing that he was terrible at begging, he made God think that Zhang Wei was threatening Him. As such, God decreed that Zhang Wei can only refine pills through the system. However, every time he refines a pill, his appearance at the time will look horrifyingly ugly.”
F*ck! How the heck did this happen? Was my masterful begging not sympathetic? How horrible will I look if I become horrifyingly ugly? F*ck this damn Author. Zhang Wei did not want to even imagine his appearance when refines pills in the future. His only option now is to refine when no one is watching, especially women.

Vincent viewed Zhang Wei’s pill refining failure in a different light. This man must have intentionally failed in order to throw me off. A pity! I have seen through all your ruse.To be fair, Vincent could not be blamed, as he saw that Zhang Wei’s flame control proficiency was top notch. Even the Refining Division head had lesser proficiency compared to Zhang Wei. As such, he concluded that Zhang Wei purposely condensed the flame too much until it exploded. Since Zhang Wei had tried to mislead him, he must take the initiative.
“It seems that Sir Zhang Wei had a little bit of an accident.”, he must make Zhang Wei think that he is looking down on Zhang Wei’s abilities. “If Sir Zhang Wei wants to try again, please help yourself”. If he accepts, then I will gouge out his true nature.
Zhang Wei frowned internally and did not accept the invitation, “It seems that this Humble man is not proficient in pill refining. This Humble Man will abstain from trying again to not cause a scene”. No way in hell am I going to show my horrifying ugliness to other people, he thought solemnly.
Vincent did not insist and invited Zhang Wei to tea again. This time, Zhang Wei accepted. Vincent then dismissed Aron and Curt, and led Zhang Wei to the courtyard. They spent the duration of the time with idle chatter and Zhang Wei asked for information regarding the current state of affairs and rumors about the noble family. It was during this chatter that a woman came to the courtyard and greeted them. “Greetings headmaster and noble guest”. The woman was around 5’5 ft and wore a blue robe, the robe bored the same design as the headmaster’s and fitted perfectly with her figure. Her face was smooth and was very beautiful resembling a supermodel.

She came to the table uninvited and sat across the headmaster. The headmaster’s expression turned sour. Clearly he did not fancy this woman. “Greetings Division head Nar, to what do I owe the pleasure?”, Nar smiled and replied, “I heard that headmaster personally led a guest to the Refining Division headquarters. I told myself that as the head of the Medical Division, I had to greet the noble guest.”, Nar smiled at Zhang Wei.
Zhang Wei was delighted to see the beautiful woman smile at him. Such a beautiful woman, she must have been captivated by this Humble Man and wishes to get closer to me. Oh woe is me, why did I have to be so handsome. It seems women can’t seem to just leave me alone. It truly is a crime to be so magnificent.
Nar started to converse with Zhang Wei and headmaster. Throughout the conversation, she maintained a calm demeanor while the usually calm headmaster was looking a bit reserved. Unfortunately, Zhang Wei did not notice anything amiss and was merely enthralled with looking at this beautiful woman.
After a long idle chatter, Zhang Wei decided to go back. He greeted the beautiful lady and the headmaster once more before seemingly disappeared. The headmaster and Nar saw the speed in which Zhang Wei left and had curious looks on their faces.
Outside the academy, Zhang Wei stopped. He finally breathed a cold air of relief. Being in that academy while trying to maintain a calm disposition was taking a toll on him. He could not wait to go back and rest.
Before he could do anything, Author’s voice rang again, “Zhang Wei realized the strange atmosphere between the Division Head Nar and the headmaster. He decided that for the sake of the city, he must investigate the situation carefully and absolve any conflict that might occur.”
Zhang Wei screamed in his heart, F*cking sh*tty Author!

Mycology
Declan was but a teenager when he was invited to Gaia. It wasn't some popular VRMMO like the ones his friend keeps recommending, nor was it a 'game' in the traditional sense. Gaia was the stopgap to Indiri, a living breathing world, the final creation of a dead genius. Invited to this world by Eve, the overseer and an AI light-years greater than any that came before her, Declan was given a choice. To join or not to join? Well, why the hell not? Hello, this is a pretty basic VR story which I started writing out of boredom, don't expect anything too great here, it's a somewhat unique setting but with mostly slice of life comedy shenanigans with no real 'plot' since I can't reliably include stakes in a world where respawning is a thing. I'll try to upload at least once every other week but real life stuff may get in the way occasionally. **WARNING** Protagonist comes with an inbuilt wizard hat. Also, any mentions of chapter titles shall be met with falling rocks TPK. **ACTUAL WARNING** Story may or may not read like the fever dream of an eclectic sasquatch with internet connection. Do be warned, that this story has extremely slow pacing by design. Join the Discord!! https://discord.gg/p2gxqs4 Laugh at my empty Patreon!!
