Chapter 3: Turning the corpses upside down!

My style of fighting, for now, is extremely simple, I use my 15 points of dexterity to kite the monsters around, I shoot them with ‘Minor Destruction Breath’, which is currently my only ranged attack, for now at least.

The plan, for now, is to keep fighting until I get ‘Basic Red Inspect’ and after that Evolve ‘Glide’ into ‘Fly’, that way the fact that monsters hit like a truck is a bit more forgiving, I've neglected VIT for now because the monsters at this area will completely one or two shot me, so, in the meanwhile, my best bet is ‘if they can’t hit you they can’t kill you’. This is another reason why for now it’s best to keep a low profile. if an intelligent race finds me to be a problem or nuisance they can send an assassin, and my low vitality won’t save me from an advanced skill until a get a hell of a lot more HP.

When I'm done getting ‘Fly’ i plan to get myself an Area of effect skill so I can pull stronger mobs and kill them all together, but that won't work until I can make sure it’s possible to get away in case shit hits the fan.

According to the information I managed to gather thanks to the villagers, the monsters in this zone are all at a point I should be able to deal with, the order of strength being Zombies > Skeletons > Specters.

I use a breath attack on the Skeleton that has just shown up, this one looks like your regular one, having just a short saber and a worn down buckler.

‘Minor Destruction Breath’ into ‘Minor Destruction Breath’ and Boom!-

Experience Received

Not all monsters drop items when they die, but the quality of the items dropped depends on their level and the type they belong to, of which the villagers knew 4 of: Normal, Leader, Lord and finally King.

Leaders usually have with them a small team of Normal type monsters, while Lords are for the most part on their own while having strength equal to a leader plus his team. King types are seen rarely, and they’re always together with their own army, they give great items and a lot of experience but are hard to kill and to make things worse, they can buff their army and give them a raise to their stats.

After spending the next 3 hours killing enemies so I could hit level 7, I've finally managed to get ‘Basic Red Inspect’, so let’s take a look at this Zombie.

Human Zombie, an undead of the lowest class, weak to Light and started by Fire attacks. Normal type

hmm, pretty weak, I'd say that info is not all that useful since it’s pretty obvious.

‘Minor Destruction Breath’

Experience Received Received Item: Rotten zombie meat (Trash)

now let’s take a look at this Skeleton 50 meters in front of me.

Humanoid Skeleton, and undead of the lowest class, weak to Light. Normal type

Oh? this one isn’t startled by fire, I wonder if the zombie had something of a consciousness while this one doesn’t.

as you may have noticed, attacks have different types, like Fire, poison etc. my Breath attack is of the destruction type, which is especially strong against enemies with a physical body, while the arcane is strong against enemies that don’t possess one of their own.

‘Minor Destruction Breath’

Experience Received Received Item: Jade pendant (Common)

Hmm? Item get! let’s take a look!

Jade Pendant (Common)

A Worn out Jade Pendant

Properties:

Magic Defense +5

Level Requirement: 1

Oh Sweet! it’s a bit worse than my helmet but this one can help me if I must fight against specters, thanks, Mr. Skeltal!

this is how my status looks as of now:

Name Doraig Stat Base Bonus (%) Total Skill Name Current level Max Level Evolution Race Dragon (Otherworldly) STR 12 0 12 Minor Destruction Breath 51 99 Intermediate Destruction Breath Level 7 VIT 15 0 15 Intimidating Gaze (Racial bonus) 2 99 +Intimidating Voice (Racial bonus) HP (+Bonus) 44/44 (+4) DEX 10 0 10 Glide 93 99 Fly HP Regen +1/minute MP (+Bonus) 101/125 (+0) INT 33 0 33 Basic Red Inspect 3 999 Medium Red Inspect MP Regen +3/minute Skill Points Available 0 Stat Points Available 0 Experience Points 36/575

After killing 25 or so enemies while getting to level 7 I've gotten 2 sabers, a buckler and a lot of rotten meat and bones. both sabers are exactly the same but I can’t use them nor can I use a buckler so they’re pretty damn useless for me, maybe I can find a traveler to sell or exchange them?

Buckler (Common)

A Worn out Buckler

Properties:

Block Chance +28%

Physical Defense: 5-8

Weapons have an attack stat which can be boosted by different skills, which boost the basic attack of the weapon by a set percentage, for example a cleave attack skill can be used to hit an enemy with 50% increased attack, doing between 22.5 and 31.5 points of damage, this damage is reduced by a flat amount depending on the Defensive items the counterpart possesses.

For example, if I get attacked by a weapon for what would be 40 points of damage I would only receive 35 points thanks to my helmet, but if I were to use the buckler I would receive 27-30 points while having a 28% chance to block all of the damage. Of course, since I can’t use shields I lose a huge advantage and thus my best option is to evade the attacks coming my way.

Oh, there’s a yellow dot on my minimap, let’s take a look!

Hmm? green guy? looks like an elf

“OOOOOOOI!” (Doraig)

He’s looking this way!

Ah, he disappeared… is that some form of stealth?

“What do you want” (Elf)

“ASHDAHSD” (Doraig)

“What. do. you. want” (Elf)

“Uh… would you like to party?” (Doraig)

Why is he looking at me like he’s watching a mentally ill person?

“Um… that way we can kill faster and get levels and items faster?” (Doraig)

“...” (Elf)

Don’t look at me like that! you’ll make me blush!

Rize has sent you a party invite

Yay!

“So your name is Rize? are you an elf?”

“Yes” (Rize)

So I guess he’s not a chatterbox huh…

“Why is a dragon in the L’arc Continent? and in the Undead plains of all places, you’re pretty damn weak, too” (Rize)

Do you need to be that harsh…

“Umm, I found a portal near my cave and wanted to explore, it sent me to this continent of all places” (Doraig)

“A portal connecting 2 continents? those things are pretty hard to make and you probably used up all of the energy it took to set up, you probably pissed someone off on the other side (LOL)” (Rize)

“Probably, yeah, but I mean that thing didn’t have any signs hung so I just assumed it was a sli- I mean, I didn’t think it was connecting 2 continents and just assumed it was a natural occurrence” (Doraig)

“...” (Rize)

Oh, he doesn’t seem to want to keep talking.

We continued to walk further inside the area, Rize has the skill ‘Stealth’ which seems to be the racial bonus of the elven race, granting them the potential to be excellent assassins and rogues, by the way, Humans’ racial skill is an interesting one, it’s called ‘Unity’ which grants them strength when fighting with their kin against other races, but is ineffective when fighting their own, it’s pretty neat and seems to promote them sticking together.

in this way we’ve managed to kill enough monsters for me to hit level 10, so now I can finally fly!

I take off to scout ahead and notice a collapsed shrine in the middle of the plains, and there’s a bit of red mist in the area surrounding it, let’s see what Rize thinks of it.

“you probably saw the ‘death shrine’, there’s a monolith inside which converts corpses around it into different undead and stores the souls of the…”

he’s surprisingly eager to teach, huh.

Many hours later..

so in short, whenever a humanoid species dies near this area, their soul gets sucked into the monolith, gets transformed and goes back to turn the corpse into a zombie. When the zombie dies it gets sent to the monolith again to be transformed into a skeleton soldier. when it gets killed again it becomes a Specter and when it dies for a third (fourth) time, the soul becomes free and enters the cycle of reincarnation once more. it seems the only reason the L’arc continent doesn’t deal with the death shrines is because they make for great leveling places. that’s pretty neat, but I wonder who put the death shrines in the continent in the first place?

"hey, Rize? and why is the mist forming a vortex and there's black clouds gathering?" (Doraig)

"Well, that's because- WHAT?" (Rize)

"Huh?" (Doraig)

Okay, maybe we should worry a little bit.
