Prologue
~~~~~~~~~~~A Certain Girl~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s been 68 days since I’ve been hired by a merchant from the “Gnues” clan. My job is to guard the caravan heading for a place called “Darsheen” village. This was a fairly large caravan consisting of 10 large wagons with 2 large Armordilboes pulling each one. At first, I was perplexed at the idea of going to such a remote village that according to recent reports has just been “visited” by Calamity Ants. The reason they gave me actually confused me even more. According to them a “Miraculous Hyumen” has found “something” and has managed to revitalize the surrounding lands and they are heading there to trade for vast amounts of food. This was very hard to believe but as we approach the town of “New End”, we encountered more and more monsters. The land itself was the biggest mystery. There were a few patch of grass growing here and there along with several wild plants. We even passed an outpost on the way made by the “Bear Dogs” clan that they said was meant to keep the area a little bit safer. It has been a very long journey but we’re finally about to enter the town of “New End”.
*Welcome to the Town of New Beginning!*
“Huh?” I don’t get this at all. When I last came here, I was pretty sure it was named “New End” but now it’s called “New Beginning”? No matter how hard I think, I couldn’t come up with any answers as to why the name was changed
The town itself has greatly changed. It’s now filled with an incredible amount of Beast People. They were selling or trading lots of various goods from “Bones” that could be used to make great weapons to precious stones such as Rubies and Diamonds. The liveliness of the place is probably the biggest thing that has changed here. Back then, they were often desperate and most of the time hungry but now “smiles” could be seen on their faces. I wanted to look around some more but the leader of the merchants has called for me.
“Rhiasviel, we will be staying here to rest for a short while so you can join the others and get your “Payment”. We will not be here for long so finish any business you have before we depart for Darsheen village” The old Gnues merchant states this without even looking at me.
“I understand. How about the travel back to your city? I would be willing to continue working as a guard for the return journey as well”
“Uh….you see….well……um, that will not be necessary. Well, the thing is….there was already a pre-arranged agreement with the Antlion Company and they will provide mercenaries for the return trip. We are thankful for your services but unfortunately you will only be needed up until we return back here”
“………Is that so…..” The old Gnues was acting weirdly but I can’t do anything if they don’t wish to hire me anymore.
“Yes……. You can follow this young one to the Inn we have reserved. Make sure you are ready when we depart for Darsheen village”
The old Gnues quickly left along with several other old Gnues. All I could do now was to head to the Inn so that I could eat and rest. After I’ve eaten my “fill”, I decided to head for the market to sell all the loots that I’ve obtained during the journey.
I needed to somehow find another employer when we return back here. The only thing I’ve asked for payment was food and rights for all the loots from the monsters that I’ve killed so this should be a pretty good offer for them. Hopefully I’ll find another job once this one is over………
“…………..This isn’t good………..I heard that it’ll only take 7 days to reach Darsheen so at most I’ll only be working for 14-15 days……I’ll need to quickly find another job otherwise……………I might die”
Prologue End.
My Isekai
For those not familiar with the isekai genera, this story is about a man waking up in an unknown world. The story follows his journey and life in this world, which does not only look different on the surface, but the common norms and values of this world are very alien to the modern western mindset. How will this average western person respond to such a world, and how will it change him. For those familiar with isekai, this is a western take on a predominantly Japanese story format. It draws a lot of inspiration from Japanese isekai, but it also tries to tackle a lot of tropes that might be annoying to the western mindset. The story is not written for young boys as the story tries to take a mature take on some typical clichés and assumptions made by both the typical writer and reader of the genera.
