"Mr. president, John is here for you."

"Let him in." John appeared into the Oval office through a door which seamlessly blended with the wall.

"Mr. president, we have been going through the procedures to finalize some things from our side, however there is something which I think you need to read."

John handed some papers to the president to look over. He briefly looked them over and sighed. "Your saying we should delay the treaty signing?"

"Not completely, but I think we should take this slowly." John said firmly.

"And the reason for this caution? Your starting to sound like the secretary of health right now."

John contemplated before speaking again. "Mr. president, right now we have no allies."

"Yes, that is obvious at this point. And?"

"We also have no obligations right now. Our department only realized this recently after numerous meetings and discussions, but our administration has the potential to shape US foreign policy for the next half century. Right now, the US has no formal treaty with any existing nation in the new world. Furthermore, no historical or racial baggage at all. If we play our cards right, we could create a whole network of dependable allies whom we never had any bad relationship before."

"That is good and all, but why are you telling me this now?"

"The diplomatic delegation from the Kingdom of Astra is coming right now to Washington D.C. We need to emphasize on a couple of things. However, ultimately the decision lies with you Mr. president." He nodded. "Go on."

"We have a couple of options Mr. president. The first is to ensure our diplomatic missions to the kingdom remains fully staffed to aid in the process of basic education, democratization, and other reforms necessary. We would need to train hundred, if not thousands of addition staff to do this. All while we ensure the sovereignty of the kingdom."

"What's the second option?"

"We do what we did after WWII and set up military bases around the kingdom to stabilize the region. However, the US will have to deal with the ramifications after our administration. I advise for the first option, however it is up to you Mr. president."

"I will consult the chairman of the joint chief of staff as well. I want to hear his proposal."

"Yes Mr. president."

Soon, the chairman arrived in the office. "Mr. president, I would advise a more proactive method of foreign policy. We do not know what dangers lie ahead of us in the future, so having accessible military bases in the region would certainly be a boon to our military capabilities. From our last conflict with the hostile forces, it took our military nearly a week to mobilize land troops to finally push back the main force at cultivation town.

As we move further away from established military bases in our territories, it will be even more difficult to deploy forces in a sensible time frame. Furthermore, from our intelligence, the world is a much more chaotic and violent place than back on earth. Of course, the threat of nuclear annihilation has been practically reduced to zero."

"You and John spoke together no? Is there no compromise on this?"

"If we severely wanted to limit our presence in the kingdom, we could theoretically just have one base established for security purposes. However, I would personally advise for more bases."

"John."

"I would be alright if it was only one base. Considering how rural the kingdom is, it would not be impossible to establish a limited military presence. My only fear is that the military presence will be permanent."

"Your thoughts chairman."

"The only reason why many US bases remained after WWII was the rise of the Soviet Union. If we assume such a thing does not occur, then we can eventually have the kingdom take care of its own defense and slowly remove our presence. Furthermore, by having more bases nearby, we can hasten our response to conflicts when needed. Especially if we are to contact countries beyond the kingdom of Astra."

"John."

"The chairman brought up a fair point that I cannot really refute Mr. president."

"So its either fully diplomatic, full military occupation, or an in between huh...."

The president contemplated. However today would be written down in history as a pivotal point of US history as the president made his final decision on the matter. As all foreign policy matters are decided not through congress, but the president, foreign policy of a single administration can make or break a nation.

Princess Dianna and the rest of the delegation from the Kingdom of Astra started to awaken to the bright lights emanating throughout the plane windows. It was morning as the plane still flew high above the clouds. The small rumbling could be felt and the noise from the engine could still be heard.

The princess has ridden a ship before, so this plane trip barely burdened her. In fact, carriages are often more nauseating than this plane trip so far.

She looked out the plane to see it above the clouds still. She thought that it would have had to take breaks or land. However she didn't see any sign that the plane was going to descend anytime soon.

She called over an attendant. "Did the plane happen to land before we woke up?"

"No, we have been flying continuously for over ten hours now. We should be arriving at Washington D.C in around half a day and should be arriving around noon."

"Thank you."

"Your welcome." The attendant walked off while the princess sat in shock.

"Maybe I heard incorrectly." She thought.

However, all she could do was look below the clouds to observe the land below her. They were so high up, she could not make out anything specific, however she could see vast plains, vegetation, and some mountains. It was unbelievably huge.

Other diplomats and the prime minister were also looking out, trying to observe everything below. However, it was not long before they were fed some food and drinks.

Everyone was impressed at the service considering they have been in the air the entire time. However, it was not long before the princess noticed another sound. It was louder than even the engines attached to the plane.

She looked out of the window before anyone else and saw something incredible. A grey plane like the one she was riding, expect slimmer and with only a single pilot in the plane. She could see thin rods attached to the sides of the grey plane. It was unlike anything she has seen up till this point.

Then, she noticed the plane itself was starting to descend for the first time since the plane departed the territory called Guam. It was subtle, but she noticed the clouds coming closer to the plane. Soon, all the windows were covered as the plane continued to descend down towards the ground.

The princess suspected it would not be long before she could see something. And then it happened. The windows suddenly cleared. She could hear the other men in the cabin aweing in disbelief. However, she was also in disbelief.

Almost like discovering the lost city of Atlantis or the Titanic, for the first time they witnessed what the US looked like in person. They could see land as far as the eye could see. However, what filled the landscape was not vegetation, but houses and roads for miles. They saw roads connecting all these tiny structures everywhere. They could even observe small moving dots they assumed to be cars. Everything looked structured and man-made.

Just the pure size of everything was incredible for many. They were impressed with the infrastructure of Guam, but this takes the cake for them. They saw huge bridges, interstate highways, and even more paved roads.

The plane continued to descend closer towards the ground. They could see everything in closer detail. They were just shocked by everything. It looked incredibly foreign to them. All of them, including the princess were getting anxious as they plane continued its descent.

The princess also saw a distinct white pillar in the distance. It caught her eye as it was the tallest thing in the area. It tapered into a tip at the top. For her, she assumed its of great significance for it to the tallest structure in the area. However, everyone realized they were approaching their destination when a voice sounded throughout the cabin.

"Everyone, please fasten your seat belts and prepare for landing. Attendants, please make sure everyone is properly seated."

Soon, everyone was seated in their chairs, however the princess was still looking outside her window. Soon, she could sense the plane turning as the ground changed positions. Soon, the plane straightened again, and the ground got much closer.

The plane got closer and closer to the ground. It was going by so fast that many were terrified of the plane getting destroyed from the speed. The plane continued to fly so close to the ground, no one knew when the plane's wheels would hit the ground.

Then a light thud could be felt throughout the cabin as the plane contacts the ground. Immediately everyone could feel the plane trying to slow down as the wing flaps extent upwards. The princess gave out a light sigh as she saw the plane slow down significantly. The plane finally landed.

Soon, the plane stopped moving entirely. An attendant came up to the cabin. "Everyone, please wait for a moment as the welcoming committee prepares the plane outside. It will be a couple of minutes. I will let everyone know when everyone can get off the plane."

A few minutes pass as noise from outside the plane can be heard. She looked out the window, however she was on the right side of the plane and thus she could not see what was happening. Soon, the attendant led the members of the envoy out of the plane. What she saw before her were a flight of stairs leading down to a red carpet flanked by soldiers in various uniforms. A group of people could be seen waiting for them. As well as a convoy of cars and people in black business suits guarding them.

They descended the stairs and met the welcoming committee.

"Prime minister Gerald and Princess Dianna, it's a pleasure to meet you. I am chief protocol of the United States. I will be guiding you all on the scheduling of the visit and where all of you shall be staying. Please."

She motioned towards the black car. A man in a black suit was holding the armored door open. She stepped into the car. Gerald entered the other side of the car.

Soon, the convoy of cars slowly departed Joint base Andrews.
