Up on the conference floor now, we took the elevator. I saw a few more security robots in the actual office part of the building, the reception area, some the same as on the parking levels, some different—little floaty balls with blue-glowing horizontal and vertical slits. I think they're the kind that explode onto people and coat them in air-hardening goop.

We're the first ones to arrive here, Dad planned it this way. The view from up here is amazing, one entire wall is just windows and they're SO clean. All the lights look so pretty, and the city goes on forever. The meeting area is beautiful too, all of this dark wood and thick lush red carpets. It kind of reminds me of home, actually, circular areas leading up or down into other circular areas, plenty of places to sit but nice and open if you're just walking through. Although I am probably going to trip and fall into one of those things at some point. Hm. There are tables with food and drinks along one of the walls, there's SO much. Dad's over there now, tutting about something. I think I'll go over and eavesdrop a bit.

"I told him not to go overboard," Dad said.

"You know Lawrence, this is probably his idea of 'restrained'," Mum said. "At least no one's going to go hungry."

"I thought he'd be here," I said. "Mr Falchion, I mean. I really want to meet him."

"He's coming, don't worry. I doubt he'll stay long, but you'll get your chance to say hello."

"What about Daniel, is he teleporting in? Wait, he's not already here, is he? Waiting to phase-in and spook me?"

"I thought we had this discussion—your brother won't be joining us," Mum said. "You know he's shy and awkward and generally unsocial, this sort of event isn't for him. Besides, it's good to have an eye in the sky."

Mum just nodded out the window, at the moon. It's still really weird to think that my brother's up there, and that that's where I've lived for my whole life. I'm sitting down again now, next to C2, on one of the big circular ... things. Seats? They're like seats but they're not ACTUALLY seats, I mean ... modern architecture is so difficult to describe. I think I'll talk to C2 instead of trying.

"Would you like a pear?" I asked her. "There's lots."

"Thank you, no."

"Are you okay?"

"I feel nervous. I'm not very good with new people."

"But they're all superheroes, we've got that in common. And most of them you at least know something about."

"That's part of my problem. I know many things about them, but they know nothing about me. The relationship is unbalanced from the beginning."

"Huh? Just try to relax, you'll be fine. At least we've got our amazing dresses, right?"

That made C2 smile. I bet Briq wouldn't like me wearing my Opal with this dress, but I really feel naked without it on my wrist. C2's got hers in her bag. My power indicator shows 'three', which is correct; Mum, Dad, C2. Wow, by the time everyone gets here I'll have like a dozen different powers, that'll be pretty cool. I wonder how weak they'll all be? I think Daniel said—ooh it just jumped to four, someone's here, someone's here! Wait wait wait, I should switch to LUS, I don't want to be typing but I DEFINITELY want a record of this! History in the making! The forming of a new oh my goodness it's DOCTOR CHIMPANZIO!
