Argh so false alarm, Daniel was just getting excited over one of his simulations doing something unexpected. No, sorry, because it did something expected. He got all excited because his simulation did exactly what he thought it would.
I may never truly understand my brother.
"Did you turn the LUS on?" Daniel asks me.
"Yes, it's recording now. C2, are you turning yours on, too?"
"Do you think I should?"
"It couldn't hurt," Daniel says. He's smiling at C2. "It'll help with my debug stuff, too, there was some weirdness when Charlotte rezzed last time, I think I got rid of the glitch that was causing that but it's always good to have multiple sources of debug data. By the way, C2, you might notice some weird stuff with the LUS at first, I know we went through calibration together but even so—basically, the more you use it the better it'll get, you remember our discussion about the feedback cycle. I've actually made a few changes since then, the processing time in particular is a lot quicker now—not that you'll notice that. Well, hopefully not, if you notice it then that means there's a problem, haha. Um, right now there's a three second buffer to get around a couple of messy parsing issues, which incidentally helps make the 'style' of the entries smoother. It's kind of brute force but the way it works turned out to be pretty elegant, if I say so myself. Actually, maybe I should just keep that ... well, I'll check the reports and make a call later."
Now Daniel's fiddling again, how long does it take to set up a stupid teleporter anyway? HOURS it seems.
"Now," Daniel says, "I'm aiming pretty high because I don't want you two to rez into anything solid, so you should go out-of-phase for your entry, Curls."

"What about C2? She can't go out-of-phase!"
"Ah, I've anticipated your concerns and have prepared an excellent buffer that should ensure C2 comes to no harm."
Pillows. He's got pillows and he's duct-taping them around C2. She doesn't seem NEARLY concerned enough about this.
"C2, you don't seem NEARLY concerned enough about this!"
"I trust Daniel."
So do I, but that doesn't mean I'd let him teleport me somewhere with only a couple of pillows for protection.
"There," Daniel says, after checking the pillows. C2 looks kind of funny. "That should do it. You both ready?"
"I've been ready for HOURS."
"I am ready, Daniel."
Daniel grins. "So what are we waiting for? Let's get you to Powerstone. I'll be in contact with you through your Opals, I predict a four to nine second delay in audio due to all the routing I'd have to do to get a voice channel open, so let's just stick to text, okay?"
"Okay, whatever, send us, sendREPRESENTS OUR BEST CHANCE OF SUCCESS WHICH IS WHY WE CAN'T TELL YOU ANYTHING MORE THAN

The Pack
'When you’re in hell, only demons can save you...' For a thousand suns humanity has lived on this world, a world of advanced knowledge and medieval ways, a world whose history has been lost in a fog of tales and fragments of ancient learning. Upon this planet a young man is betrayed and sold by those he called family. Lost and alone, he discovers a weapon more powerful than anything he could imagine. Now, holding the power to level entire cities, he may be the last hope for a humanity on the edge of extinction. But the howl of the pack has changed, and what was once a sound of comfort and protection brings only terror as it echoes across the mountains. When high technology meets low society, when the natural clashes with the artificial, when the very world itself seems bent on eradicating humankind, those caught in the middle must choose, though every choice brings with it its own loss. A choice between humanity, and the pack. (Download as an eBook - choose your own price - at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/1150699)

Personal Agency
It is better to die knowing. Listen. The world as you know it is not as you know it. It is a construction, a facade, a mural painted over the world to hide the fact that it is very broken on some fundamental levels. That there exists an entire spiritual realm, one of cognition and perception and memory and that it teems with awful life. The world was not made for us. Jacob Irwing is a fairly normal 26 year old American man. He's an amateur photographer, unmarried and does not work in his chosen field. He is also dying, right now, in the first chapter of this story. Someone has put a bullet in him. Agent Z is a fairly abnormal woman of no nationality. Her age is classified. Her name is classified. Her background? You better believe it's classified. She works for the people who hide the truth. She is going to wake up with a hole in her head in the first chapter of this story, surrounded by corpses and also by a dying fairly normal 26 year old American man. Burned and seemingly abandoned by the Agency, Agent Z has lost her memory, her security clearance and her authorisation. All that she's gained is Jacob, who is thoroughly in this shit now. Together they must work to uncover the truth, if any such thing even exists, in this erratic urban fantasy weird-fic. Updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Australian time.
