Chapter 30 - Strong Spirit
Back in their room, they laid on their bed full of fatigue. They had laid in their room for some time now and a while ago, someone delivered food to their room. The food consisted of meat and some vegetables, nothing special. It was a small amount of food, however, based on the fact that they barely got hungry it didn't seem like they needed much food. This made Niko wonder about other things such as aging. Will people age similar to how they age on Earth or is the aging process slower? Does aging even exist in this world? Testing this out might be difficult as they have been in this world for a limited time, however, only time would tell.
The events from earlier were still embedded in the newcomer's mind as it was an experience they had never seen before. All of today was something brand new and mind-boggling. Getting used to everything might take some time as they have been in this world not for long. The monsters, the blood, and the feeling of danger, all of these were being digested now that they had time to properly lay and think.
Niko laid on his uncomfortable bed facing upwards as his heart was still shaken. His actions today could be seen as reckless, especially for himself. He didn't know what came over him as he tried what he did. This world reminded him so much of the novels he would read, which strangely made him feel confident enough, and he also possessed hidden cards that could be played at any moment.
"You guys leveled up! You should check out your stats and everything!" Ivanic reminded everyone. The stronger everyone got, the better it was for the whole group.
"That's right!" Niko said in his mind. He was so shaken from before that he forgot about the fortune he received.

"Listen, as you all might notice you will have two skill points to spend. These skill points can be placed into any attribute, enhancing your capabilities. Now, make your choice carefully as it can save you in life and death situations." Ivanic spoke as everyone was getting ready to check their status.
Niko noticed that on his status, were plus signs to each attribute and a number two were also on it. This was exactly like the games from Earth, meaning Niko knew what to do. Seeing this, Niko began to think, " I should probably not focus on things I won't need as of right now. I shouldn't focus on strength or constitution as the path I want to focus is that of a magician, similar to a summoner, therefore I should focus more on intelligence and mana. My guess would be that mana raised the mana power, however, what would intelligence do?"
Niko was beginning to make up his mind. His priority was controlling his spirits much better and if possible, controlling much more spirits. As of right now, it was extremely difficult to control spirits, especially since he possessed three. This problem might become much more problematic in the future as he would acquire more spirits. This could mean that he might not even be able to control them if they became too many.
"Intelligence and Mana it is!" Niko made up his mind as he pressed the plus signs next to his choices.
After adding a status point to their attributes Niko felt the immediate change. His mind became much cleared as if his mind was rejuvenated. Although it wasn't a great change it still felt like it. His mana power also rose by two which was a huge improvement.
"This is amazing, Who would've thought I could get even manlier!" Candreva spoke as he flexed, clearly feeling the changes in his body, a look of confidence arose in his eyes.

"These are great indeed, imagine what those powerful people must feel like? We are still the weakest in the bunch! We must improve!" Ivanic said bringing everyone back down to earth.
Everyone nodded in approval as Zheng spoke, "Niko, can you summon that thing so we can see?"
Niko looked towards him and nodded, he was planning on checking the new spirit anyways, therefore he made it appear it.
The boar then appears in the middle of the room as it's instantly surrounded by everyone. It looks Identical to the huge boar from before, except for the size which was about as high as the waist. Although people were surrounding it, it looked straight ahead as if it was in its own world. An eerie feeling was being emitted from it, however, it did not prevent everyone from analyzing it.
Niko gave a wide smirk as he looked at the stats.
[Name: Roughback Boar King]
Rank: F-
Potential: F
[Status]
Strength: 5
Constitution:4
Agility: 1
Intelligence: 0
Mana: 0
Mana Power: 0/0
Spirit Power: 0/100
[Skills]
Powerful Tusks
"An F-rank!" Niko was ecstatic! Such a rank early on fighting by his side was something unbelievable! He was already the most powerful beginner by far at the moment with this spirit. Although it might take some time for the full potential to be met, he was willing to wait as it could pay off drastically.
Candreva speaks with a little confusion, ¨I can almost see through this thing!¨ He looked towards the boar in awe as if he had never seen such a thing before.
Ivanic then says, ¨Will it listen to your every command?¨
Niko nods. Although it wasn't exactly just following orders, instead it was being completely controlled by him. To say it followed his orders meant it actually possessed its own decisions. However, in truth, Niko´s words and thoughts were final.
This made Niko think of something to himself, ¨What happens if it possesses a higher intelligence? Will, it actually talk back and work on its own?¨
Niko was proud that he now possessed three spirits. The Steampunk Bee, the Giant Mantis, and the Roughback Boar King. He could've had more, however, he was unwilling to have unranked spirits, as there was no point in using them.
Zheng who was analyzing the boar with amazement finally said ¨We are gonna go far! This team is great! What do you think Ivanic?¨
Ivanic made a thinking face and then spoke, ¨It's a good team, however, we must not allow ourselves to be complacent.¨
¨Manly people, we should go to those mountains next! These boars are no longer giving us as much experience!¨ Candreva said with confidence.
Ivanic´s face turned dark as he shook his head and said, ¨Dodon't even think about going near those mountains. One mountain is owned by an old monster with a cheat skill who will kill anyone who intrudes in his land, while the other is a huge mystery to everyone, however, based on things I have heard everyone who has gone there to check never came back.¨
Everyone´s heart shook, however, Candreva rebutted, ¨ But there isn't enough experience coming from those boars.¨
Niko sighed and said, ¨Kill speed over anything. We can kill these bars much faster than we can kill anything else, and killing something else might be much more difficult, time-consuming, and dangerous. We might be able to kill five of these boars in the time it takes to kill one stronger monster.¨
Zheng and Ivanic nodded, while Candreva understood.
Niko then turned towards Ivanic and asked, ¨That old monster, what is his skill?¨

She awakens in A'lara City a few days later and recuperates under the steadfast care of her repentant friend Jorn.As she reacclimates to her waking state, Larin struggles with her gruesome memories of the Hells and her decision to conceal them from Jorn. This story answers the question, Is Larin all right? with a resounding yes, and some storms on the horizon. It also raises the question, What happened to her down there? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Falling Down, about Larin's ordeal in the Nine Hells. Praise for Waking Up and Falling Down: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between Waking Up and Falling Down is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well.-- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
