《The God of Lightning》Chapter 3: Training

Suddenly a gust of wind appeared within the house and gathered within Astra’s palm. The ball of wind was the size of a melon and was many times greater than Darcy’s.
“Impossible!” Darcy gasped. “An eight-year-old child being able to create a ball of wind of this size?”
“Mother, how did I do?” asked Astra.
Astra’s ball of wind was half the size of the one that took down the villagers. Despite the difference in age, Astra’s ball of wind could rival mages who were a couple of years older than him.
“A genius…My son is a genius!” Darcy laughed out loud.
Astra thought to himself if all I needed was to envision a ball of wind to create a ball of wind…wouldn't I be able to create a ball of fire or a ball of water just by imagining it...?
The door slammed opened, and Roussel shouted, “What’s wrong! What happened? Did they hurt you?”
“Nothing dear, come! Come look at Astra’s palm!” Darcy beckoned Roussel over.
Roussel quickly ran over and stared at Astra’s palm.
Roussel stuttered, “Th-This is…H-How?”
Darcy smiled, “Our son is a genius! Quick, we must enroll him into a school or get him a tutor!”
Roussel put his hand to his chin and rubbed it. “Darcy, he’s only eight years old! And where would we even get the money?”
Darcy’s smile quickly faded, and she looked at Astra.
Astra released his control of the ball of wind, and a breeze of wind touched the three of them.
Astra crossed his arms, and the three of them were silent.
Suddenly, Astra spoke up, “I have an idea.”
“What is it?” asked Darcy.
Astra spoke his mind, “I’m still only eight, why don’t I just train in the woods until I’m of age to enter a school? If I’m really a genius, then I should be able to get a special pass or something, and that should solve the money issue.”

“…That’s not a bad plan,” said Roussel.
Darcy nodded her head, “Alright, neither of us are mages, so we have no idea what to teach you. You’re going to train and educate yourself.”
“Then it’s settled, I’m gonna go train right now!” Astra said with a beaming smile.
Astra ran out the door and towards the woods.
“You know what I’m hoping for?” said Roussel.
Darcy looked at him with curiosity, “What?”
“Maybe Astra could get really strong and then we wouldn’t be afraid of the noble’s men anymore.” Roussel laughed.
Darcy angrily stared at Roussel, “Are you kidding me? You want Astra to take on that mage by himself?”
“No! Of course not! The rest of us would be helping as well!” Roussel would always get scared whenever Darcy got angry at him.
“Are you joking? That mage said he took it easy on you guys and still blasted you guys away with one spell! You would just get in Astra’s way instead!” said Darcy harshly.
Roussel chuckled, “Looks like you were seriously thinking about Astra fighting that mage.”
Darcy rolled her eyes.
