《The Fairy Squad Princesses: A Magical Awakening (Book 1)》Chapter 8: Spring Break; Serena’s in Danger

With the midterm officially over it was time for Spring Break. Serena and her friends decided to return to Earth and check up on their families, whom they have not seen for months, and enjoy the week off from classes. Serena decided she wanted to spend her first day at home relaxing with her family. Crystal decided she was going to spend a day at the spa with her mother. Ivy chose to dedicate her free time to helping her mom out in the family flower shop. Who better to help spice up the shop and help the plants grow than the Fairy of Nature herself? Kristy was enjoying the house to herself since her parents were going to be out all day enjoying their anniversary. As soon as she walked through the door, they gave her a big group hug, some kisses, and jetted. Therefore, they didn’t say she had to stay home. In fact, a few minutes later Roux called her and asked if she had any plans tonight. Finally, Roux got the guts to at least ask her out to the movies and a decent-priced meal.

“So, how’s everything going at FHA sweetheart?” Calvin asked.

“Yeah, I hope you’re not causing any trouble like me and the girls used to back in the day.” Serenity laughed.

“What do you mean by causing trouble?” Calvin gave Serenity the side-eye.

“Oh hush! You and your boys used to sneak out late past curfew.”

“Anyway, so Serena, how’s that Max fellow been treating you? Are you two an item now or something? No worries, you can tell your old man the truth: I won’t flip out.”

“After Ms. Garnet made us clean and alphabetize the entire library four floors to be exact, we don’t plan on missing any more curfews. She even sat in the library and watched us so we wouldn’t use any magic for her amusement,” said Serena.

“Ah, I see Garnet hasn’t changed,” said Serenity.

“So back to my question, are you and Max an item?” asked Calvin.

“Dad, stop it! Max and I are just friends.” Serena began to blush.

“Sure, just friends.” Blake air quoted.

“Ugh! hush up, Blake! Before I turn you into a daisy and let you burn in the heat,” Serena threatened.

“Hey, that’s not fair! I don’t have magic powers!”

“Cut it out! Your sister is only going to be here for six more days and won’t be back until summer; so, try to get along with each other,” said Calvin.

“Ugh, okay,” said Serena and Blake as they pouted.

#MeanwhileBackOnTheDarkPlanet

“Anyone wants to tell me what the word on the street is or should I just go on and say it?” King Darwin asked.

“What is it? Besides the fact that the sprite defeated us again.” Ices sighed.

“Or is it the fact that we got expelled?” said Zoe.

“So did we, but at least you four still have your magic,” Mectrics wailed.

#Flashback

“Wait! Can you at least give me my magic back?” asked Mectrics.

“And my strength, I’m as weak as a rodent now,” Bruce said.

“How about you two get out of my school before I feed you two to one of the beasts!” Professor Nicholas shouted.

#BackToReality

“Refresh my memory on how you were defeated again?” said King Darwin.

“You’re one to talk,” said Storm.

“Yeah! You try going up against the Keeper of the Ultimate Power,” Zoe said.

“And this is her not even knowing she’s the holder. Ugh! Just thinking about her is making my head hurt.” Jewels sighed as she rubbed her temples.

“We’re beyond screwed when she finds out the true power she possesses,” said Mectrics.

“She managed to blast all six of us away with one spell. One! One dang spell,” Ices cried.

“Well, for us to succeed in taking over this pitiful universe, we need her powers,” said King Darwin.

“We’d probably stand more of a chance if it was just her we had to deal with, but she’s always with her friends,” said Ices.

“True, but isn’t it Spring Break?”

“Yeah, so what?”

“This means they’re with their powerless family members who they’ll do anything to protect, especially Serena. Do you get what I am saying?”

“Of course! Let’s put each of their family members in jeopardy.”

#EvilIsBackOnEarth

“Well, we’re back on pitiful Planet Earth,” said Storm.

“I’d rather be spending the day getting a massage for all the stress those losers put me in, but we have our orders.” Zoe sighed while rubbing the kink in her neck.

“You’re not the only one.” Jewels said as she was imagining herself in a massage recliner.

“Plus, I’m starving,” Mectrics stated as his stomach growled.

“Me too,” said Bruce.

“Well, the sooner you all stop your witching, the quicker we can get down to business and begin the locator spell on each one of the brownies,” said Ices.

“What about the guys?” Mectrics asked.

“Those weaklings in tacky amour? Please they’re the least of our problems. Now hush up and let’s get the ball rolling!”

After the Vortex had the locator spell up and running, they could see where each of their “favorite” brownies were located. They decided not to attack Serena right away because they wanted to guarantee none of her besties would get in their way. The first sprite on their list to eliminate was Crystal.

#MotherDaughterTime

“I missed you so much, sweetie! Please, tell me all about the MD. I haven’t been there in ages,” said Chrissie.

“Aww, Mom! I missed you too! But OMG let me catch you up on all the juicy gossip!” Crystal squealed.

“Hello! I see you two requested the mud bath; right this way ladies,” said a female employee.

“Oh, yes! We sure did,” said Chrissie.

“Okay. Follow me, ladies.”

Crystal and her mother got in the huge mud bath to relax and gossip some more.

“Alright, enjoy suckers,” said the employee, as she laughed.

“What did you call us?” asked Crystal.

“Something about this mud, it feels weird! It feels like it is turning into a rock,” said Chrissie.

“It is! Disguise off!” shouted the employee.

“Ugh, Jewels!” Crystal tried to jump out of the mud but she couldn’t.

“The one and only,” said Jewels, as she smiled.

“FAIRY POWER TRANSFORM!”

“Oops! It looks like you can’t transform! Excellent work Jewels,” said Ices, as she popped in unannounced.

“And this isn’t just any type of mud. It dries like concrete and renders you powerless,” said Jewels.

“And don’t even bother yelling for help. I just personally gave the other employees a little knockout zap.” Storm blew on her right index finger.

“Time to deal with the others! Let’s go,” said Ices as she snapped her fingers and vanished.

As soon as the witches left, Crystal knew she had to try to do something to warn her friends.

“Ugh! If only I could transform I could get us out of here!” Crystal began fidgeting.

“Some spa day this turned out to be,” said Chrissie, as she sighed.

#InTheFlowerShop

“Hey Ivy, I could use your help with that magic of yours to get the fertilizer down from the top shelf please,” said Rose.

“Okay Mom! I’ll be there in a minute! Okay, little plants that should be enough water for you guys.” Ivy smiled with ease.

Ivy then went to the back to help her mom get the fertilizer down.

“Ugh! Look at the beautiful flowers.” Storm gagged in disgust.

“Spray de sommeil (sleep spray)! Let’s go ladies before the pollen knocks us out into a deep sleep for a couple of years,” said Ices.

“Thanks, Ivy I appreciate the help since I have no one to help in the shop. Your father is away on another business trip, your nana decided to take a trip to The Bahamas, and don’t get me started on your Auntie Paula,” Rose blabbed.

“Wait Mom, where’s all this pollen in the air coming from?” Ivy asked.

“I don’t know, but suddenly I’m getting really sleepy.”

“Now that you mention it… so am I!”

Within minutes, Ivy and her mother were out cold and had no idea it was due to the Vortex.

#PlayingVideoGames

“Aye man, you cheated!” Josh shouted.

“Ha! No, I didn’t! It seems like you need to step up your gamer skills.” Brock gloated.

“Pizza delivery!” Mectrics shouted as he disguised his voice.

“Did you order a pizza?” Brock asked.

“No, because my mom said she was bringing back something to eat for us after she picked up my dad.” Josh looked confused.

“Maybe it’s Max or Roux trying to play a prank on us.”

“Well, let me go find out. I’ll be right back and don’t be unpausing the game while I’m gone.”

Josh got off the couch and went to open the front door. But when he opened it no one was there.

“That’s odd, well there’s no pizza guy here.” Josh scratched his head.

“Hmm! Maybe they realized it was the wrong address?”

“I guess.”

“Alright, well get your butt back on this couch and help me defeat these undead assassins”

When Josh and Brock both started playing the game, again they both got a wicked surprise.

“Hey! Someone wants to join in the game and it isn’t Max or Roux,” Brock noticed.

“Well, the more help the merrier, so let’s patch them on through.”

Josh clicked the online gamer acceptance request to join their refuge against the deadly zombie fighting assassins, but once the unknown gamer’s request was accepted, suddenly the video game started to glitch. Josh and Brock weren’t ready for what was about to happen next.

A voice came from the flat screen and her exact words were, “Hello losers! About time you patched me in!” Afterward, there was wicked laughter heard. That is when Josh and Brock realized it was Ices, but before they could react, she cast a spell. The spell sucked the two heroes into the video game they were playing. Looks like the game they were playing for fun turned out to be a game of run and hide to survive.

Meanwhile, Kristy started having a strange feeling that something wasn’t right. So she decided to call Crystal because her number was the quickest to reach in her contact list, but her phone went straight to voicemail. Then, she tried calling Ivy and the same thing happened. Right before she decided to call Serena, the Vortex appeared.

“Why hello, Kristy,” said Ices, as she grinned.

“Oh no! It’s you, witches!” Kristy gasped as she dropped her phone.

“You weren’t about to call any of your friends, were you?”

“Ugh! What did you witches do to my friends!”

“Don’t worry about it! We’re mainly interested in your bestie Serena, but the only way we can finish her off is if you’re out of the way. ICE BREAKERS!”

“Ding Dong!” the doorbell rang.

“Hey Kristy, are you ready to go to the movies? Kristy?” Roux continued to knock on the door repeatedly.

“Oh no! AHHHHHHHH!” Kristy yelled.

“Kristy, I’m coming in!”

“Why don’t we help you knock down the door? VOLTAGE KICK!” Mectrics shouted.

“AHHHHHHHH!” Roux yelled as he was struck in his back and went crashing through the wooden door.

“Roux!” Kristy shouted as she was frozen on the living room wall like a wall decoration.

“Look! It’s one of the losers,” said Ices.

“And looks like my babe caught him off guard and knocked him out cold.” Zoe blew Mectrics a kiss.

“It was nothing babe.” Mectrics blew a kiss back.

“Ugh! Gag me,” said Storm.

“That part. Now, what should we do to them both?” Ices began rubbing her chin.

“Leave that to me.” Zoe snapped her fingers and unleashed fire all over the exits of Kristy’s house.

Zoe lit the entire house on fire and left Kristy and Roux to their demise. Kristy knew she had to do something, or this was going to be the end of both of their lives. Ices’ new ice powers were upgraded to the point Kristy couldn’t move a muscle to transform. The smoke began getting thicker, but fortunately, the smell of the smoke was enough to wake Roux. Unfortunately, he awoke only to find himself and Kristy surrounded by flames.

“It’s about (cough) time (cough) you woke up!”

“And I see the witches didn’t waste time trying to dispose of us.”

“Enough talking! Get me out of this ice so I can transform.”

Meanwhile, as the Vortex and their nitwits were getting ready to make their final stop, they spotted Max outside of the Divinity’s residence.

“Ding Dong!” the bell rang and Serena’s mother answered.

“Well hello Max, what a surprise, why don’t you come inside and have a seat! Serena will be down in a minute.” Serenity winked and smiled at Max.

“Thanks, Mrs. Divinity.” Max then smiled back.

#AboutTwoMinutesLater

“Hey Max, what are you doing here?” Serena asked as she walked down the stairs.

“I’ve been calling and texting the guys all afternoon and no one has hit me back,” said Max.

“Hmm! Now that you mention it, I haven’t heard from any of the girls either: not even one text message.”

#Outside

“No sense in making a grand entrance; let’s fish them out,” said Ices.

As Max and Serena were trying to figure out what was going on with their friends, all of a sudden the windows shattered.

“Is everyone alright!” Calvin asked as he rushed down the stairs with his heart racing to check on his family.

“We’re okay honey!” said his wife Serenity, as she came out of the kitchen.

“What happened?” said Blake as he came out of his room with his gamer headphones on.

“Don’t worry! Whatever it was, I'm going outside to find out,” said Max.

“I’m coming with you,” said Serena.

Max and Serena stepped outside the house, but no one was there. Thus, Serena had a feeling a familiar group of evildoers were present.

“I know it’s you, vile witches, so come out!” Serena shouted.

“About time you losers came out to play,” said Ices as she and her crew flashed before Serena and Max.

“It’s Spring Break, but I see you witches and your two tagalongs didn’t get the memo. Well time to transform!”

“Alright, well I may not have my armor or my magic sword on me, but I still got these hands.” Max got into a fighting stance and grunted.

“Well, let’s see if those hands can handle my big green pal. Bruce, crush him.” Mectrics smirked.

“It would be my pleasure!” Bruce began cracking his huge knuckles.

“No, stop! As much as I would love to see Bruce flatten pretty-boy, we’re here for something more important,” Ices reminded.

“What are you babbling about witch?” Serena asked.

“Oops, I forgot to mention that your friends won’t be around much longer!”

“Oh no! What did you psychos do to them!”

“Nothing to worry about because you two will be joining your friends and everyone else as soon as we take what rightfully should have been ours years ago.”

“Whatever that is, too bad I’m going to make sure you witches and the two scallywags don’t get the chance to obtain it!”

“Did she just threaten us?” Jewels asked.

“Sounds like the brownie did,” said Zoe.

“I’ve had enough of this back and forth! Let’s get this over with!” Storm was becoming antsy.

As an unfair battle between the Vortex and their nitwits against Max and Serena began, Kristy and Roux were still in the burning house.

“Sounds like the fire department is finally here,” said Roux, as he heard the sirens.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure their water isn’t going to put out Zoe’s flames (cough) this isn’t an ordinary house fire. If only I could transform, but this ice Ices has me sealed in won’t let me budge,” Kristy cried.

“Maybe I’ve been using my magic on the wrong thing instead of trying to break Ices’ spell-resistant ice. Maybe, if I use magic on you instead.”

“Alright well let me have it and fast!”

Roux temporarily transferred all his magic into one final spell, waved his hands, and conveyed all the magic from his body to Kristy. She began to feel Roux’s energy flowing inside her and could transform just in the nick of time.

When Kristy transformed, she called forth her Time Scepter and the positive energy from it melted the ice holding her captive. She then warped Roux and herself out of the burning house to the backyard because she didn’t want to spook the firefighters who were in front trying to defuse the flames.

“Kristy, you did it!” Roux shouted.

“No, we did it! And thanks to the scepter, Zoe’s flames won’t be too much of a hassle for the firefighters to put out,” said Kristy.

Kristy and Roux then used a locator spell to locate where each one of their friends were and decided to go to the nearest locations to save time.

#BackToTheFight

“What’s the matter, Maxi boy? Not so tough without all that armor to protect you?” Mectrics teased.

“Maybe it’s the fact that I’m surrounded by two nitwits and three ugly stepsisters.” Max was quick on the insult.

“Who are you calling ugly!” shouted Zoe, Jewels, and Storm.

“Yeah, I know I look topnotch; can’t speak for these two.” Zoe made herself cough.

“Uh! What are you trying to say, witch!” Jewels leaned back, as she rolled her neck and looked at Zoe.

“Yeah, I’d like to know!” Storm shouted.

“HEARTS SHUTTER!” Serena yelled.

“ICE SHIELD!” Ices shouted.

When Ices blocked Serena’s attack, she overheard her best witches arguing once again.

“Hey, would you idiots stop arguing and destroy the boy already!”

“Sorry Ices.” The other Vortex apologized.

“Wait! Where did he go?” Mectrics noticed.

“Over here!” Max waved.

“I got him!” yelled Storm, as she sent bolts of electricity towards Max.

Max jumped out of the way and Storm ended up hitting one of the water sprinklers which let out a big gush of water back at her.

“AHHHHHHHH!” Storm screamed as she crashed into a bush.

“Well looks like Storm’s out of the way. So who’s next?”

“Just wait until I get out of these darn bushes! OUCH! Dang, these branches are sharp!”

“Looks like Max just knocked Storm out of the battle,” said Serena as she smiled.

“Ugh! How embarrassing.” said Ices as she sighed.

“What’s wrong Ices?”

“Nothing if only the upgrade KD gave us came with a how-to not argue until after the mission is complete.”

“Who’s KD?”

“Time for a quick change of plans.” Ices snapped her fingers and disappeared.

“Hey, where did she go?”

“AHHHHHHHH!” screams came from inside the house.

“Mom! Dad! Blake!” Serena hollered.

“And here we have three frozen family crushable ice sculptors.” Ices spoke as if she was a hostess on a game show.

“Leave my family alone!”

“Yeah, Ices! Using Serena’s family as bait is low!” said Max.

“It’s called a winning strategy. Now, why don’t you just chill!”

“Max, look out!” Serena yelled.

“AHHHHHHHH!” Max hollered, as he turned into an ice sculpture.

“Make that a total of four easily breakable human ice sculptures,” said Ices.

“HEART FI…” Serena was getting ready to blast Ices.

“Na-uh-uh princess! Listen closely! One false move or a blurt out of your mouth and I’ll dismember their heads with just a snap of my fingers.”

“Ugh! Just imagine all the blood you’d have to clean up mixed with all your salty tears,” said Jewels.

“So, what did I miss?” Storm asked as she walked into the house.

“Be quiet Storm!” Ices shouted.

“Ugh! Whatever.”

“Anyway, now back to what we were discussing.”

“Once again, what do you witches want from me?” Serena asked.

“You really have no clue, do you, little girl? You might want to pull up a chair for this breaking news,” said Ices.

“No, I’m fine with standing! Now tell me what you broomsticks want!”

“Well Princess Serena, you aren’t just the Fairy of Hearts you’re the Keeper of the Ultimate Power. You are the most essential Guardian of Light.”

“Ultimate Power? Guardian of Light?”

“You see that battle that arose fifteen years ago, it was because the Dark Planet leaders were after you.”

“But why?”

“Most likely the goal was to abduct you, raise you as one of our own, and use your powers for evil and we wouldn’t have had to waste our time trying to steal positive energy. If you were raised on our side, the light would have never existed for this long.”

“Please joining you pieces of trash is out of the question.”

“Oh, please! We’re not desperate. I wouldn’t work with you even if my life depended on it. That’s why I’m giving you an ultimatum.”

“Ultimatum?”

“It’s very simple: either you watch your family and your boyfriend die or you willingly hand over your powers.”

“But knowing how you heartless witches work, I’m not stupid. Say if I am willing to hand over my magic and right after, you could just destroy them anyway.”

“Which is why you will have my word. I promise! Cross my cold, wicked, and icy heart that if I break this promise, I will get severe heartburn, enough to melt my heart and die.”

Ices literally crossed her heart with a hex, so that she couldn’t harm Serena’s family or Max for the rest of the night.

“So, what’s it going to be missy, we don’t have all day.” Storm started filing her nails.

“Quiet Storm, let her make a decision,” Ices said.

“I have no other choice… I’ll give you my magic.” Serena couldn’t believe this was her only option.

“Perfect! Ladies, shall we?”

“With these four dark crystals combined we now take the Ultimate Power: VORTEX SUCTION DEVOURING STRIKE!” shouted the Vortex.

“AHHHHHHHH!” Serena screamed as the Ultimate Power was ripped out of her.

The Vortex had effectively taken every ounce of Serena’s magic. Ices, in fact, kept the promise she made and defrosted Serena’s family and Max. Then she and her crew warped back to the Magic Dimension because it was time for their evil terror to reign. About an hour later Kristy and Roux managed to free all their friends as well as Mama Chrissie and Mama Rose. Thus, by the time they arrived to help Serena, her family, and Max, it was too late.

“Serena, wake up!” Max said as he held her in his arms.

“Oh no! She’s not waking up!” Serenity cried.

“No, I won’t lose her! Please, Serena, wake up.”

“Come on sweetheart! Please open your eyes,” said Calvin.

“Serena, stop playing! This isn’t funny! Wake up,” Blake cried.

“Alright witches, bring it… on?” Crystal looked puzzled.

“Looks like there’s no sign of the witches or the two creeps,” said Ivy.

“Oh no! Look! Something’s wrong with Serena!”

“Hey bro, what happened?” Josh asked Max as he placed his hand on his shoulder.

“I don’t know! All I remember was being turned solid and Serena having to defend herself against the witches while the two nitwits watched from the sidelines and when the ice thawed, I regained consciousness only to see Serena laying on the ground,” Max cried.

“Well, I’m not getting a reading on them anymore! They must have gone back to the Magic Dimension,” said Kristy.

“We can worry about them later! Come on girls, our girl needs an energy boost and quickly,” Crystal stated.

Crystal, Ivy, and Kristy lent some of their life energy to revive Serena before it was too late.

“She’s waking up! Thank God,” said Serenity.

“Thank you, girls.” Calvin smiled with relief.

“Mom, Dad, Blake, Max, you’re okay! Looks like Ices kept her word this time… girls, is that you?” said Serena, as her vision was coming back into effect.

“Don’t forget about us,” said Roux.

“It’s all of us! We managed to overcome the odds of survival once more, but what happened?” Crystal asked.

“And I’m guessing what went down isn’t good news at all,” said Kristy.

“It isn’t! In fact, I think we all should go inside and have a seat for this mind-blower,” said Serena.

Once they were all inside, Serena explained how she was left with no other choice, but to let the Vortex take her powers. Most of all, let them all know that she was the Keeper of the Ultimate Power. Her parents looked at each other as if they had done something wrong. They both looked at Serena and were about to drop some shocking news.

“What’s wrong?” Serena asked her parents.

“Yeah, you two have that look of guilt on your faces,” Crystal added.

“When I was about six months pregnant, your father and I were visited by the Seer Sisters,” said Serenity.

“Three foretellers who have been around since the very beginning of time. No one knows their exact age, but besides being immortal, they have the ability to see into the future,” Calvin added.

“However, they only reveal themselves when inexorable danger is about to break.”

“Like the attack on the Magic Dimension fifteen years ago,” said Ivy.

“Well, why don’t they reveal themselves now because it’s clear danger is upon us,” said Crystal

“Cee…” said Serena.

“What? I’m just saying.”

“Please continue,”

“They told us that an inevitable battle between the Light Guardians and the Dark Warriors were upon us, but they couldn’t give us the exact time or date because it was forbidden.”

“However, they did tell us that one of the kingdoms would give birth to a child who would possess the power to prevent the same devastation that has occurred to never happen again.”

“Well how can I prevent history from repeating itself when I no longer have my magic?” said Serena, as she sighed.

“Hey, don’t worry! We’ll find a way to get through this,” said Max, as he held Serena’s chin and smiled.

“I hope you’re right!”

“Alright, well we better get back to the Magic Dimension,” said Kristy.

“Kay’s right, let’s go guys,” Serena agreed.

“Sweetie, be careful! We know you and your friends will succeed,” said Serenity.

“Yeah, sis! Go kick their butts,” said Blake.

Before heading to the Magic Dimension, Serena made a phone call to Mrs. Wings and informed her of the travesty that happened to them and the devastation that was soon to come. It appears Spring Break did not last long, and it was time to get ready to head back to the Magic Dimension.

Serena figured even without her powers, she was going to help her friends find a way to defeat the Vortex and the nitwits once and for all. Thus, before they headed back to the Magic Dimension Kristy had to inform her parents that their house nearly burnt to the ground due to dark magic circumstances and now they were going to need a place to stay for the next few weeks.
