《Black God of Lightning.》23. The forest of Talem

About 1km away from the forest of Talem, a white light flashed and two figures emerged from it.
" Why aren't we in a forest?" Layla Palmer said.
"An F Rank teleportation spell cannot teleport that far. Plus, the white light could attract creatures stronger than me so we walking the rest of the way." Lucas said.
"Oh, I see. But don't forget you still owe me that Earth style food." Layla Palmer said teasingly. She looked directly at Lucas's face trying to see his reaction as they both began walking.
With a straight face, Lucas said, "Sure, but I was lying earlier though."
" About what?" Layla Palmer said raising her one eyebrow.
" When I said I'm not sure, you would like my cooking. You see, I know you'd love it." Lucas said confidently.
Layla Palmer chuckled and said," Oh, confident are you. I'll have you know that I have had my fair share of exquisite cuisines."
" What, were you like some kind of princess in your past life?" Lucas said mockingly.
" Is that fear? Cause you can just say it scares you..."
" Wait. Did I guess correctly?"
" Yeah... I was, sort of a princess in my world..."
" You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to..."
Layla Palmer didn't even need his sympathy she immediately retorted saying," So what you were like some kind of chef" She looked at his face to see his age again ' In training I presume."
" No. But I dabbled in a bit of cooking here and there. I needed something to impress..." Lucas immediately stopped speaking. He was afraid if he continued there would be a misunderstanding.
" Impress what?" Layla Palmer said despite seeing his reluctance to continue speaking.
" It's nothing..." 'By the way, I've been meaning to ask you. When we first saw each other you didn't even flinch. Are there black people in your world too?"
Layla Palmer was curious as to what he was going to say but Lucas had just stopped prying into her personal life so she decided to do the same, she said, " O yeah, there is and a lot. My world had blue, black and white skinned people. And different colours on other planets. "
Amazed Lucas said, " Other planets? There were lifeforms on other planets?"
" Yeah, we had like 6 different planets that we could travel to at any time. There were more planets with intelligent species but they were much further away." Layla Palmer said nonchalantly.
" Damn, sounds like your society was a lot more advanced than ours..." Lucas said unwillingly.
" What was your world like?" Layla Palmer asked.
" Well, we only had one planet to live in. There are no other lifeforms on any other discovered planet. It was hard to discover though. Just getting to the moon took 3 days. Our spacecraft travelled about 240,000 miles (386,400 kilometres) to get the moon. So discovering other planets really took a lot of time. " Lucas said.
" And you got excited when I said I came from science," Layla Palmer said mockingly.

" That is just rude," Lucas said while laughing. " We are at the forest though."
They were now staring at a bunch of trees that stretched west and east as far as the eye could see. The forest of Talem was 500 square miles ( 804.672 kilometres) in size.
Layla Palmer looked at the forest with awe in her eyes. She was like a child who had seen the beauty of a sunset for the first time. In the night some of the plants had glow in the dark genes. This, in turn, made the whole place light up. It was truly marvellous. The different shades of orange, red, blue, purple etc, coming to life at night. Not all areas had glow in the dark plants, so many other areas were completely black at night. (Example: http://infoworldpk7.blogspot.com/2014/01/glow-in-dark-plants-to-soon-light-up.html )
Lucas walked into the forest and Layla Palmer followed him so closely she was practically stepping on his toes.
" Are you scared?" Lucas said mockingly.
" No," She said shamelessly while trying to sound confident but still clinging to Lucas.
Lucas didn't push the joke any further lest he gets burnt. He knew she was clearly scared but did not want to say it.
" Okay. We just got here so I need to find food I can kill. It might get a little rough so just be vigilant."
" What if it's stronger than you?"
" Don't worry it won't be"
" I've been meaning to ask you. How can you use magic? Just like me, you were summoned today..."
" What can I say. I'm just gifted like that." Lucas said while confidently laughing.
" Right..."
At this moment Lucas immediately halted in his tracks. Layla Palmer didn't have time to react so she walked right into Lucas.
" What was that for!"
" Shhht! There is a creature up ahead."
Layla Palmer looked at it and sucked in a deep breath. She was staring at a green lizard. It had the size of a Komodo dragon, but it looked like a frilled neck lizard. The skin looked similar to that of a snake. Its frilled neck had red glow in the dark lines on it. It clearly didn't evolve efficiently. Having glow in the dark colours on your body means you are visible to all creatures at night.
Seeing the creature Layla Palmer clung to Lucas tightly. Lucas was cursing in his mind. Did she think he was impotent? They are alone in a forest. It's night time. The glow in the dark plants set the perfect ambience. The worst part is that her breasts where touching his back. If he didn't have the control he might have risked it all right there. Lucas wondered " How much does she trust me!".
Lucas moved his right shoulder away from her body. He understood that she was scared but she needed to find a different way to cope. Layla Palmer sensed Lucas feeling uncomfortable so instead, she held his arm and walked beside him.
"System, what level is this creature?" Lucas thought.
[It's a level 10 GFP (1) Frilled Komodo]
" Its taste is similar too what animal on earth?"
[ The animal's taste is the most similar to a crocodile]

" That's our dinner. Wait here while I kill it." Lucas said.
" System, I am now going into combat. Do I still need to engage the combat mode thus using my last free use of it for the day? Or since I am going to go fight soon can I activate it without the use of a use." Lucas thought.
[ System recognizes that you are about to engage in combat so no deduction will be made. However, failure to engage in combat 10 minutes after activation will warrant in an immediate deduction from the total uses. This cannot be performed when you have 0 uses left.]
" I understand. Activate combat mode"
[ Combat mode activated]
Immediately the whole place lit up. It looked like day to him inside the forest. So The GFP plants weren't glowing anymore. Lucas used his enhanced zoom mode to look ahead and see how far away a potential threat was. He saw that the maximum distance he could zoom was 500 meters. Within 500 meters of himself, level 10 was the highest level. So he was confident he could leave Layla Palmer alone without it being dangerous.
Lucas activated wind's affection to keep his footsteps light so the GFP Frilled Lizard didn't hear him approaching. It was now just 10 meters ahead. It was only eating the GFP plants and avoided the rest. It was now clear to Lucas why it has glow in the dark frills. Lucas couldn't quite understand the advantage of it. Not only are you making yourself more visible to predators but also to prey. Yet this lizard despite having a level double in size to the creatures that roamed around this part of the forest still found these plants appealing.
The goal of these creatures is to eat and eat and eat so they can continue to evolve. But once you reach a certain level. Some plants no longer have an effect on you as such they move deeper in the forest to eat plants or animals of higher quality. Yet this lizard kept eating the GFP plants.
Lucas did not ponder too much on it because it was about to become his nourishment. Lucas prepped his mana. He then created an arcane ray afterwards he added rotation to it. He created five of these purple arrows. Due to all the glow and the dark around Lucas, he wasn't spotted. Lucas used his enhanced zoom and predictive analysis to calculate where to shoot his arcane rays. Once he knew how he aimed at the vitals of the lizard. Suddenly 5 rays of purple light twirled through the air and into the head, heart and body of the lizard. The lizard died instantly. Losing control of its legs its body thumped on the ground.
Layla Palmer gasped at the power of Lucas's magic. Her body language that originally masked that of someone who was scared was now open and relaxed. It was reassuring for her to see how easily Lucas handled a monster that gave her the chills.
Lucas walked up to the lizard and dragged it to Layla Palmer. She was still scared of how it looked despite it dying.
" That thing is disgusting. How can I eat that?"
Lucas laughed and said, " Of course, we are not going to eat it like this. I'm going to first prep the meat and then I'm going to braai it."
"Braai?"
" I mean I'm going to barbeque it. Where I'm from barbeque and braai are synonymous."
"I see. So you're going to braaai it."
Lucas smiled when he heard her say braai. It warmed his heart to hear those words from another person's mouth. He then said, " Yes, but first let's find a place to sleep."
Lucas and Layla Palmer walked around the beginning section of the forest for an open section. They eventually found a place with more ground than trees. Lucas cast his spell around this area. This spell created a small zone of 12 meters where no sound or smell could pass through. Lucas marked the whole perimeter of the zone by digging a stick deep into the ground. He then told Layla Palmer about the zone and what it does. He named it the safe zone.
After that was done Lucas went to go collect the best wood from the tree's using the systems info. Lucas then built a medium sized fire pit. He took the tinder and placed it inside, next he placed the kindling and afterwards he placed the logs he cut down using his Arcane Ray as a knife. The wood was still wet so Lucas used his new spell F Rank Time skip which can age all objects. The amount of ageing is dependant on the object and the caster. Lucas aged the wood so it lost all its water and was now dry enough for burning.
Lucas prepped his mana and released a small fireball that passed through the wood until it disappeared. This ignited the wood and a fire was created. It was now nice and cosy inside the safe zone. Layla Palmer immediately moved to the fire to warm herself up. Her skin was pale due to the cold but now it got it's rosy colour back.
" System what is so special about those GFP plants"
[ These GFP plants contain the GFP gene which the Lizard wanted. The Lizard was trying to evolve into a Drake. Drakes are similar to dragons. There are multiple types of Drakes but one of the strongest is the GFP Drake. They can alert targets of their existence to make them back away so they do not have to fight. Or they can turn it off if they want a fight. They are more intelligent and powerful than ordinary Drakes. This is why the GFP Lizzard was eating the GFP plants, unfortunately, it died before it could get the required amount of GFP gene. Humans can not obtain genes from plants. The GFP plant also has a delectable taste so it is loved.]
" Can you locate all the plants that I can use for cooking?"
[ Marking is unlocked at level 3. However, I can give a description of how the plants look and where you are most likely to find them.]
"Please do that."
[ The first plant is...
1. GFP- The gene responsible for giving the plants/creatures their glow in the dark appearance.
