《Black God of Lightning.》13. Scheming?

Lucas watched indifferently as most of them were scared for their lives as the fireball approached them. Until the flames reached them and just passed through them all, even the ones fleeing. Then the fireball hit a wall and dispersed into nothingness.
Lucas rejoiced when he saw the fireball pass through them instead of exploding because that is exactly what he wanted. When Lucas was chanting the spell he noticed that the size of the spell had drastically increased. It was now the size of a 60cm/24 Inch beach ball. Not only that but the heat that it emitted was blistering hot. The magic circle protects the caster from the spell despite this Lucas still felt the heat.
It was then that Lucas wished that the fireball would pass through them rather than explode to maximise damage. He then envisioned it passing through and released the spell and watched it pass through everything until it hit a wall and disappeared. This was a big step for Lucas as a Mage,
After a while. Lucas looked at the aftermath and there were a bunch of charred corpses lying everywhere. These were level 8 goblins. They had all died. Most of the level 9 goblins had died too but those that were alive were hanging on a thread, just one touch and they would die. All the level 10 goblins were alive though. But when the flames reached the ice it caused hot steam which also injured them to the point where they could not move a muscle.
The sounds of screams could be heard from the Goblins. Lucas could not understand what they were saying but the language of pain is universal. Lucas looked at them with an apathetic eye. He thought " System, what is my current level?"

Lucas saw his level but was not surprised this time as there were about 30 Goblins he had instantly killed. With 3 and 4 levels above his own. All that together gave him his current level. His skill points were beyond calculation but he then soon deduced that from level 10 you get 4 skill points per level. He was happy to see that he could now buy 2 more spells from the ability store.
Lucas then inspected from a distance how the Goblins are doing and if they had any fight left. But they all looked lacklustre. When he was convinced the remaining bunch could cause no harm he walked up to the line of Goblin bodies. The Goblin bodies and picked up one of their swords and individually ran it through every single heart. This was a more fitting death than if Lucas left them out of pity. For then they would have died a dogs death. As a warrior to be pitied by your enemy is the most shameful thing that could happen to you.
The level 9 Goblins only gave Lucas 10 exp where the level 10 gave him 15 exp. This was because Lucas's level is now 13 which means monsters he kills below his level no longer give him the same amount of exp. The total amount of exp was 250 ( 100 from 10 lv.9 and 150 from 10 lv.10).
Lucas was astonished how he could take lives without batting an eye. They are not humans but still a life is a life... He then realized how calm and composed he felt the second combat mode was activated. It had to be combat mode. In combat, any slight hesitation can cost you your life as such certain emotions are cut off to maximise combat. Lucas then clicked on combat modes settings and saw that he could turn off and on certain emotions or dim them to the desired level. Naturally, this meant emotions can be increased too.

Now that he was no longer in danger Lucas called forth his attributes stat. After the systems upgrade, he no longer had to call for his attributes he just needed to minimize it so he can bring it up anytime he wanted.
[Attributes:
Strength – 20
Dexterity – 20
Intelligence – 24
Wisdom – 14
Charisma – 4
Luck - 8
Skills: F Rank Fireball (upgradable), F Rank Ice Chamber (upgradable)
Skill points: 18]
Lucas wondered what he would do with the points he had. He thought " I have seen the benefits of having a higher intelligence stat. It's because of that I was able to perform the change in fire form. It also increased the size of the fireball. So int is good. But I don't just want to upgrade my int. I wonder what the other attributes do? When I asked for attributes pertaining to mana they showed up so they must have some use.
[ Strength is the strength of your body. High strength equals strong muscles. Dexterity refers to your agility but also your casting speed and your ability to multi-task. Wisdom makes you wiser and allows you to make wiser decisions. It also increases your mana recovery speed. Charisma is how people see you when they first meet you. A higher charisma allows for you to get more out of people just because of your natural charm. Luck increases your chance to do critical damage and increases the chances chance to stumble upon treasures, etc. Also, luck affects your quests.]
Lucas then decided that he would first pump 6 points into wisdom. Giving him a total of 20 and another 6 into int giving him a total of 30 int. He kept the rest of the points. An hour had almost passed.

In the Royal Chambers of the Crown Prince.
knock-knock, knock-knock
"Who is it?" Daruin Ashbinder said.
"It's me." a female said.
" Let her in." Daruin Ashbinder said.
A middle-aged woman walked in. This woman was none other than Abigail Ashbinder, The Queen of Pantelan. She had blonde hair like everyone in the Ashbinder family. With Royal blue eyes. The royal blue eyes were their symbol of royalty. Everything about her oozed sultriness. Her natural beauty was the pride and envy of women alike. People couldn't figure out whether to be salty or proud.
" How did the soul migration go. All according to plan I presume?" Abigail Ashbinder said
" It went smoothly the only difference is that I never had to kill the summonee. As that would needlessly raise suspicion." Daruin Ashbinder said.
" You didn't kill the summonee! Have you lost your mind?!" Abigail Ashbinder yelled.
" He is weak. We had him tested and he will amount to nothing in this world. We summoned a dud. He has no potential whatsoever and not as strong as we anticipated so I decided not to kill him. As not to raise suspicion for no reason. Also because whether he is alive or dead the same outcome will still occur. On second thought the only thing he has for himself is a bit of intelligence I detected but one needs more than intelligence to survive." Daruin Ashbinder said.
Abigail Ashbinder laughed ugly after she heard this. If her devote fans saw her now they would be astonished.
" We initially expected to suffer some sort of set back. To not arouse suspicion after we kill the summonee. However, now that the summonee does not need to be killed we can move forth with phase two immediately. Lady luck smiles upon us." Abigail Ashbinder exclaimed.

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
