《Listonia Online》Chapter 24 - The Hunt and Some Loot

There was a flash as the Gate just north of Sufokia lit up and 2 figures walked through and entered the area. One of the figures was a burly looking man with a bald head and a large bushy beard that came down to his stomach. The other figure was an elf with a green bandana that had a red skull on it. These 2 figures were obviously Gii and Ralph who were arriving at the location where they intended to hunt.
Truthfully with Gii's new transformation ability, he could make himself look like any one of the main races as long as they were humanoid. However he rather preferred this appearance and he also did not want to have any risk of drawing attention to himself, even though it was unlikely that anyone was actually watching him at this point in time. Gii pulled up the map and confirmed that they were just south of the forest he wanted to hunt in. As he was getting his bearings and preparing for the best way to hunt down the creature, he heard the voice of Ralph speak up next to him.
"Are you sure about this Gii? I know our stats are way above our levels right now, but this seems a bit much..."
"I'm definitely sure, just trust me. On our own we would definitely have trouble, but as a team we should have no problems."
There was smirk on Ralph's face as he realized that his friend had yet to steer him wrong. Besides, the worst that could happen is he would be brought back to this gate and lose some time and experience. Ralph had a good reason for being apprehensive though, as what they were going to fight was a level 20-30 creature known as a Quillan. As a tailor and a leatherworker, Ralph knew that one of the best tier 1 sets could be crafted from the materials dropped by this creature. The only issue is that they were notoriously difficult to deal with because of their magical abilities and attack damage.
A Quillan's main defensive ability was to turn invisible! Although they couldn't maintain it for long periods of time, it was still incredibly troublesome to deal with. In addition, they also had the ability to shoot defensive quills at a long range. These quills also dealt a massive amount of damage and according to the forums, there had been very few players who had taken the attack and survived. Most encounters with Quillan's would start with a character getting killed and then the group chasing after it, only for the Quillan to turn invisible and run away. This would happen over and over until either the group gave up and ran away or a character with a ranged attack would be able to snipe the Quillan before it could turn invisible again.
Gii wanted to test his newfound tankiness and abilities with the attack power of this creature.
If I can deal with a Quillan at this level then I shouldn't have to worry until I run into a real boss monster.

"I think you are underestimating your own attack power now Ralph. You might be able to 1-shot it if you score a crit."
"That is true, at least according to those who have killed them they seem to have really low HP."
"That's why I'm confident this will work. I'll bait them out and lure them towards you so you can wipe the floor with them."
Gii smiled in reassurance and both him and Ralph began to make their way into the forest.
After a short time Gii and Ralph enter the forest and Gii starts pushing out ahead of Ralph while Ralph tries his best to hang back and hide amongst the trees. The forest is filled with life and many different animals are foraging amongst the undergrowth while the sounds of insects and birds blare through their ears. Gii notices some movement in the underbrush and his body tenses up in anticipation. However he quickly lets his body relax again as he sees a large boar exit into the open and continue on its way
For the next bit of time Gii hones his focus and begins heading towards different areas in the forest where he remembers that Quillan's spawn. Gii remembers that Quillan's like to hang out in treetops so that they can have the best vantage point to launch their quill attacks from. As he was scanning through the treetops looking for his target, there was suddenly a distinct noise like a low thump.
*Thwick thwick*
Doing his best to brace himself as much as possible, Gii brought his arms in front of his face but was suddenly met with a searing pain from his right side as a series of foot long quills buried into his side.

A massive damage number popped up over his head and Gii shifted himself so that he was facing the direction where he got hit from. He quickly scanned the area and noticed the Quillan in one of the treetops about 100ft away from him. He could see the spiked tail on its back and its trademark orange tinted color that made it stand out. Gii stood still for a moment before he began to turn and run back in the direction he came while peeking over his shoulder to see if the Quillan would be following him. Sure enough the creature was not too smart and had completely set its aggro on him so it quickly jumped amongst the trees before he saw its invisibility take effect and he lost sight of it.
As he could still hear its movements in the treetops he continued to run and dodge amongst the trees, at the same time he yelled out to Ralph.
"It should only be able to stay invisible for about 30 seconds or so, make sure not to miss it when it appears again!"
Although there was no response from his partner, he knew he could trust Ralph. Gii began to slow down in his retreat so he could try to get as close to the Quillan as possible. Once again he was met with the low thumping sound and this time he could see the quills materialize directly in front of him

Although he was able to dodge some of the quills, the majority of them still found their way into his body.
Fortunately they cannot attack very fast
He then began to run right in the general direction of where the Quillan last fired before suddenly veering off to the right and weaving amongst the trees. After a short amount of time Gii finally spotted the orange tint of the fur of the Quillan. Before he could even shout for Ralph to attack, he saw the flash of a golden coin fly through the air and slam into the side of the head of the Quillan. A damage number floated above its head
[-198]
A flash of joy came across both Ralph and Gii's face as this number had almost completely wiped out all of the health of the Quillan. The shock of getting attacked also allowed Gii to advance closer than he normally would have. He quickly tried to close the distance, but as he was about 30 feet away the Quillan regained its composure and realized it was in some trouble. It began jumping across the treetops biding its time until it could turn invisible again.
Gii flicked his hand and a long splash of blood from his wounds scattered across the ground except instead of turning into blood splatter it began to coagulate into a more solid form.
>
Gii slashed out with the whip made of his own blood and was just barely able to reach the Quillan that was at the edge of his range with the ability. Nevertheless, he was able to grapple the Quillan with his > Ability and yanked the Quillan into his melee range where he already had his trusty dagger prepared. As the Quillan rushed toward him, he thrust his dagger forward with all of his strength and a damage number jumped up above the Quillan's head
[-112]
Although it wasn't a large amount of damage, it was enough to get the job done and the Quillan dropped onto the ground dead before disappearing in flakes of white. Gii and rRalph both made their way over to the area where the corpse was and took a look at the items it had dropped. In a large pile together there were a number of different items including an orange tinted quill, multiple large tufts of fur, a Tail and what looked to be a well maintained piece of orange fabric.
Gii picked up the fabric and turned to Ralph with a smile.
"I knew your luck was going to be great but I didn't think we would get a fabric for the first kill!"
"HAHA! Well, my attack was much stronger than I thought! This class might be more suited for combat than I initially thought!"
Gii nodded in approval at Ralph's words because he knew just how valuable his class would be in the long term. Ralph's class was called Treasure Hunter and it was a fairly uncommon class built around the Chance stat. The main stats all improved different types of elemental damage with strength increasing earth damage, dexterity would increase air damage, Chance increased water damage, and intelligence increased fire damage. Wisdom would not increase any damage but it would affect the amount of experience you would gain from fights and quests.
In addition to their primary function, these main stats also had hidden bonus stats. Strength would increase your carrying capacity, dexterity would increase your ability to dodge attacks. Intelligence and wisdom were a bit unique in that intelligence would increase magic in general so it would increase the strength of things like light and dark spells as well. Wisdom would help in resistance against spells so it was always a great secondary stat to be raised alongside the main stat.
Chance was always a common secondary stat amongst the vast majority of players in his previous life as well. In fact many would usually have an entire set of equipment dedicated to increasing their chance stat. This is because the secondary effect of Chance was to increase a character's Luck! Obviously players would increase this so that they could improve their ability to get rare drops.
In the late game some of the drops needed for crafting were so rare that players would grab any last bit of Luck just to increase their chances by a small amount. At that time, players who had a class with their main stat as Chance would always be highly sought after to increase the chances of a rare drop being included.
Gii handed over all of the spoils to Ralph and sat down to recover his health that had been lost. He pulled out a piece of Rye bread and munched down as he watched his health go up little by little.
"Are you sure about giving me the drops? you could make a pretty penny off of these."
"Yeah, I'm sure. You can pay me back by making me a Quillan Set."
"A full set? According to my crafting recipe there are 4 pieces to the set. As a tailor and leatherworker I should be able to make 3 of them but the 4th set piece is a ring so we will have to find a jeweler."
"I'll find the jeweler myself so you don't need to worry about that, just hold on to the drops for me."
"Alright, I'm fine with that but I get to keep any leftovers after you get the materials for your set."
"Deal."
Gii munched down on the next piece of bread and took a look at his health bar which turned his smiling face into a frown.
"This class is great but I have a feeling it's going to be expensive to keep my HP topped up...."
