Chapter 192 – 2
The enemy was tough to find. She’d been staying around the demesne but she couldn’t see trace the enemy at all. There was no sign of them everywhere other than the ones that would sneak inside the borders of the demesne.
The enemy wore fatigues. Zola saw that they have made tents along the coastlines. All of them were burly and stern. Upon a closer look at them, reminder Zola of the ancient earth military that was popular on her word’s history books. They look like 20th-century soldiers. Each and every one of them has arms that were the same as the demesne. But they didn’t have any walkers or skyships. All they had were four-wheeled vehicles and pseudo tanks that could possibly navigate the forests of the demesne.
Zola was in cloak mode. She faced the coastline while keeping her eyes half-opened. She looked at the men. She saw radar dishes and electric generators. She could smell diesel and some of them were roasting a hog. There were men cleaning the tanks. On the long tents, there were mechanics and repairmen working on their weapons and vehicles.
Zola wanted to destroy them immediately. But doing would be like taking an unripe fruit. She didn’t want to waste the chance so she prone just by naked bush and piled snow above her body. Her suit changed color and blended in with the environment.
“There seems to be to something that I am missing here,” she thought. She looked at the beach. There was a rubber boat with an engine. There were at least five rubber boats. They seemed to have come somewhere from the sea. But yet as she spies at the sea’s horizon she couldn’t see any warship or ships that might have ferried the soldiers to the borders of the demesne.

Maybe the ship was located far? Are they playing safe and making it sure that no one could spy on them? Zola wondered. She wanted to kidnap one of them and asked them where the ships are currently anchored. But she was able to intercept their radio. She could tell that they regularly check on every person that was on the coastline.
“Check, are there any problems?” a voice said. The voice was then followed be soldiers reporting one by one. They have created a numbering system and seeing that they were doing it every hour. Zola told herself not to do anything to soldiers from now. She needed to see if there were more enemies. She would then be given the choice to annihilate them when they gather the number.
She observed two days without rest. She heard, “Never speak any secrets. We don’t know if there are enemies listening,” a soldier replied, “there shouldn’t be anyone listening to this frequency. But you are right, we should be cautious. Our men have been disappearing and none of the forward scouts we have sent returned alive at all. The worst case is that they might have picked up our radios and listened in to our conversations.”
Then the people behind the radio returned to normal conversations. “Damn you bastards,” she cursed. She wanted to shred their camp and burn them but she held herself back.
It was then that fie more rubber coats arrived on the coastline. The members that have made Camp on the beach said.
“You guys are still alive. I heard that there was an enemy that has been killing us.”
“Yes, no contacts from them ever since. No traces.”
“Not a single one?”
“Not a single one at all. Even the anti-material snipers we sent didn’t return home. All of them were elites and proven to be great fighters. Yet none of them sent anything. We only heard a really loud static and something that was definitely not human killing them”

“Not human...” the voice behind the radio seemed to be contemplation. “Our Empire has invaded four hundred countries and saw many creatures. We were not able to reach this continent because of that Kraken that guarded the route that didn’t have any destructive currents. The water flow of sea wasn’t favorable enough for us. We only knew of this continent because of the ship we met a few years ago. So we knew that there are humans here.”
“So what is the thing that has been attacking us?”
“Someone that is like Shadow...the shadowy blade of the Emperor can do impossible things. So it is not impossible that there will be another shadow-like person on this continent.”
Zola didn’t know who this shadow was. But judging by the fear on their voices she could deduce that this Shadow was someone that could do what she can do. Either that person was someone that enhanced or possesses Psychic abilities.
“Speaking of Shadow, where is she?” asked the voice behind the radio.
“I don’t know,” answered another voice. “Shadow only traveled with us. The Commander cannot control Shadow for she only listens to the Emperor himself. As far as I know, Shadow should be in the placed called Holy Midland. She should be acting as a saboteur.”
Zola’s brows furrowed.
“The Holy Midland...that fanatical country filled with soldiers who bear the cross as their symbol huh, I guess she could work well to kill and destroy key points of that nation. Shadow is Shadow. I think she could handle the task there.”
“No doubt about that. Shadow is a one-man army all by herself. We aren’t like her. We got ourselves picked up by someone that might be like her in skills and abilities. We should worry about ourselves not her.”
“True,” agreed a soldier behind the radio. “If she was then she might have found whoever’s killing our forward scouts, too bad that we can only rely on our own damn selves.”
“Agreed, we should stay alert. The next scouts should arrive sooner or later. Until then we should hold this line and make sure that we can use this coastline as our forward operating base.”
Then they went back to their duties. Zola could tell that they weren’t going to send more scouts so she radioed the things she heard and reported about ‘Shadow’ that should be operating and destroying key points on the Holy Midland. She didn’t know why. But Zola thinks that ‘Shadow’ might just be someone who could kill her.
