Chapter 90 – Angel with a Shotgun
My eyes opened on their own. I was pulled by this strange force that made my body jump away and roll despite the injuries that it has sustained. I didn’t know why it did. But the moment I saw the abomination that made us both fall down that chasm of despair. I knew that death’s scythe was just near me.
There was a strange feeling of despair as I lay down in the ground broken. I could move my neck to see what was happening. But yet the loud foot stomps of the abomination made my heart jump. There was this dreaded fear as the abomination slowly approaches.
Was this my end? I thought so. But yet at that moment, I saw the abomination fall to its side. Its metal head was shot by something loud and crude. I turned my stiffed neck to where that blast came from. There, I saw a long-haired angel wielding a shotgun. Her blonde hair reaches up to the back of her knee, her reddish eyes slowly turned to blue, as her skin returned from blue to pale in a moment. She had this focused look in her eyes, her shotgun, aiming at the blasted head of the abomination.
It was a continuous blast that was like music to my ears. Her stern and taciturn figure wielding that shotgun made the grim mood that this forest was giving disappear. Like an angel with a shotgun, dispersing the despair with violence.
It was like a tune that resounded through the air. The sky seemed to welcome this angel and it cleared. The endless blue sky could be seen, the sun’s erupted its blinding light as it illuminates the long-haired angel that was destroying the abomination.
There was a sound of metal bending. The constant loud noise of her weapon along with her ripping the parts of the drone made for a quite a scene. She seemed to have taken something out, and she put it into this gauntlet where I could see a hologram screen appear out of thin air. Am I seeing things? That looks advance but I can’t really comment about it while being this far away.

The woman held her shotgun upon her shoulder. She turned towards my direction and with a single leap, I could see her figure float. It felt like time slow down as I see this angel approached. She wore this exoskeleton that held her limbs tightly. She wore this carapace body armor with an odd belt around her waist. Her hair spread as she leaps towards me. She kneeled and pointed her gauntlet at me and spoke.
“Your wounds...this is a miracle you are alive,” said her, in a rather familiar language. She seemed to have realized that she spook to her native language. “Are you okay?”
She said in the common tongue. I knew what language she used. It was a familiar one and looking at her talking in the common tongue of this world. I said, despite my jaw being broken. “I am...fine...are you from?”
That was the only words I can muster. It felt like I spent everything that I had in those five words. She seemed to know that language. I could her see blue eyes widening. Her face that was rather bland, turning that of a shock as she tries to call out to me. I could not hear her words. I could only hear this drop of water as I suddenly found myself in this beach where things were so calmed...
It was a fond yet a bitter memory.
To her surprise, the battered man before her spoke an earth language. It was a different accent compared to the unified one she was used to. But she could tell that it was a united earth’s language. It shook her being. It made her immediately pull a syringe from her belt and stab it on the neck of the man. She didn’t care about what she did. She gave him the finest cure that the 25th millennium could offer. A highly regenerative Nano-stem cell that could heal a soldier at death’s door and make them susceptible to revival.

She only had one but she didn’t care about that. She was a Type-Shiva Soldier that had been augmented to have a regenerative ability to fight the Quietus. She didn’t care for the syringe and its value and only wanted this human who knew her language to stay alive.
The cure was not an almighty solution. It could not bring back the dead but it could heal this man faster than normal humans should be. It was like a gift that will bring forth a semi-regenerative ability for this man. She did not know him. She had no reasons to save him other than that he knew her language.
This man could be a deprived who got sent into this foreign. She had many questions to ask but how could she do that if this man dies? That’s why she injected this man with a cure that would give him the ability to heal his cells when he is not conscious. The cure only works when the user sleeps. It doesn’t mean the subject will get the ability to heal his wounds in battle. He will still need to rest in order for the Nano-stem cells to activate. They only act when there is less brain activity in the user's head so that they don't accidentally fry the patient's nervous system.
And indeed, the cure worked. The man in front of her started to get better. His wounds were healing in a slow rate. She was surprised about this. It seemed like despite being the best thing that her age could offer. It was not that compatible with this human at all. There was a difference in their body components. It was quite disheartening but she could at least put relief in the small-time regeneration that she was seeing.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps. She turned her exoskeleton suit to mimic mode and turned it into a hooded coat that covered her features. Then, she saw a man being assisted by someone. They seemed to be looking for the man and seeing him, this man hurriedly told his companion to carry him to the carriage. They didn’t notice her, but when they did. They told to come with them, telling her that it was not safe. She wanted to ask the man questions so she had decided to go with them.
It was strange...but for the first since coming here. She felt like there might be someone that might understand her. That is if the man lived in the same era as she was.

Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
