《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 257: Achilles’ ‘Heel’

There were a lot of speculations about what Zivon’s lance was and what it did. Mira first looked at the posts of Zivon’s previous opponents to get concrete information.
They both said that their IP identified the lance as a [Tier 5 Armament: Spirit Lance: Sarganox]. Mira had seen Tier 3 creations as the top prizes for both the individual and group tournaments. Hence seeing a Tier 5 here made her wonder ‘How the hell is anyone supposed to beat him?’
The person who fought Zivon first disproved the notion that Zivon’s lance attacked the soul. She had a soul ability and knew what a soul attack felt like, it was nothing like what the lance did to her.
As the lance’s name implied it was a spirit lance; being around it caused it to attack the psyche of anyone in range. Alas the person who fought Zivon first wasn’t well versed in psychic elements so that was all she could gleam. She didn’t know how the attack worked or the effect of the attack. She only said she swiftly felt overwhelmed and passed out.
Mira remembered how Jade had said her diamonds contained a part of her soul called Persona and how it could block psychic attacks. This caused Mira to think ‘My best bet is the shining diamond. At least now I know the kind of attack he uses. But honestly I’m really weak to psychic attacks… It will be dope if I, the black horse, somehow won against him though. Regardless my next opponent should be my focus’.
With that Mira began planning strategies against Sasha.
…
In a dark space a few people, in various outfits and possessing various forms, sat around a long table. The shadow of the person at the head of the table, who had arms with 2 elbows, pushed a paper containing a list of names to the center of the table and said “Good work on the previous people; these are the last people we need to exclude” in a high pitched voice.

A shadow with a woman’s appearance focused on the name on the third row of the list, it was Mira’s name. The shadow at the head of the table said “Do you have an idea of how to exclude her?”
The woman said “I do have an idea but it’s not certain that it will work. Even if it does work she will get more powerful than she would have if we excluded her. I’ve checked the future; this is the only solution I have”.
The shadow at the head of the table silently looked around at the other people at the table for a while before saying “That’s one idea more than any other person, go ahead”.
…
The next day arrived. While Mira was in the stands watching Daisuke’s fight which was already reaching its end, a High Human came into the row she sat on looking around. The Chinese man pulled a trolley behind him that contained a black box.
When the man’s eyes met with Mira figure, he hurried toward her with his trolley in tow. He said “Mira right?” Mira looked at him with a confused expression and said “Yes, do you know me?”
The man said “No but I was sent to trade this with you” and pointed to the black box in his trolley. Mira said “So why would I be interested in buying that?” looking at the box in question.
The man said “Because it will allow you hurt your next opponent”. Mira said “I’m not interested; I’m fighting this battle for my own personal improvement, not to come out the winner”.
The man said “Yes, I know that but your idea of hitting as hard as you can, will only get you so far”. Mira said “How did you know that?” with an expression of suspicion and slight killing intent.

The man stuttered as he said “I-I know someone that can peer through time. B-Besides, I’m sure you want to fight Zivon. Judging by his personality, he’ll never fight you if you l-lose to Sasha”.
Mira looked at the man while contemplating ‘It is true that knowledge is the key to winning against Sasha; she’s just that type of opponent. If Jade were here he could probably whip up a solution… or maybe not. This guy needed someone to see the future for him, or whoever sent him, to develop a solution’.
Mira said “Tell me what the weapon is supposed to do”. The man shook his head and said “I can’t do that; you would be able to win her if I told you”. Mira thought ‘Then the thing in the box is not really rare, it’s the knowledge that counts’.
Mira sat back and said “How much do you want?” The man shook his head and said “What I want is for you to leave this city for at least 1 hour after the last fight tomorrow”.
‘Scandal!’ Mira thought as she realized the situation was more complex than she had imagined at first. Mira thought ‘Now what would he want from me by having me leave. Does he want to do something to Daisuke? Or maybe Tian? No he can’t do shit to them. The person who sent him must have business with them. The only reason why I would need to leave would be because they don’t want me to protect or buy something that would be sold tomorrow. My space ring is quite valuable. If I sold it I could probably buy anything’.
Mira said “Ok”. Immediately after her IP said ‘A king has given you his word’
[He will give you the item that can harm Sasha, your next opponent, and in exchange you will leave Wangin for at least 1 hour tomorrow after the last fight]
‘Do you accept?’
Mira mentally accented and the man handed her the trolley; the item in the box was too heavy for him to carry by himself. Mira opened the box as the man left and found a blue mace with white engravings in the box. Beside it was a piece of paper that read:

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
