《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 222: Bye Bye Ocean Master

The Ocean Master opened its mouth and swallowed tons of sea water. A unique process happened in its body that transformed the water into cells and energy for the monster.
It size swelled as it absorbed more water until it had a diameter of 40 meters. The Ocean Master roared and shot its tentacles at Jade again. The tentacles were way larger now and even more numerous but there was only one Jade.
The Ocean Master thrashed its tentacles at Jade, the poison at the tips tainting the sea water turning it green. The green water surrounded Jade but they found no purchase as they only encountered transparent portals that led them back to their source.
…
The Leviathan on the other hand had its jaw dropped to the ocean floor as it watched Jade. It connected to its allies’ psychic connection and said ‘Come to where I am, there is something you must see’.
A reply came from one of them with a stern voice that said ‘The newcomer huh? We are watching the battle, we’re on our way’. The Leviathan was surprised and confused. It asked ‘You were watching me? Impossible, I would have noticed’.
Another voice chuckled before replying ‘You’re too much of a blockhead to ever notice me spying you old fool’. Recognizing the voice the Leviathan said ‘Ink, I shall deal with you’ but his only reply was another chuckle from the same voice.
…
A few minutes passed, Jade had just been watching the Ocean Master struggle to no avail. Sure it was big and it took a lot more energy to manipulate the space around it but Jade was far from lacking energy. In fact he could continue this forever. He thought ‘It has no way to counter simple space manipulation. Sure its soul is strong but now that I have a stronger soul than it, it has no hope. It’s too simple; I won’t even have to bring out my runes. I should end this soon’.
…
The Leviathan got a message from one of its allies soon after, it said ‘I’m close’. A lanky woman with an average person’s size and sparse transparent scales on her white skin could be seen swimming toward the Leviathan. She had webbed feet and palms and two sets of gills above her collar bone. She was covered in an armor made of what looked like coral shells.

The woman silently scanned the battle that was being fought. She floated to the top of the Leviathan’s head and stood on it. Her armor extended from her legs, covering the Leviathan with corals. The Leviathan said ‘Thanks Coral’.
Coral responded ‘I told you that you don’t have to always say thanks Length. Eel and Ink are coming soon’. As soon as he said that, a lanky man that was 3 meters tall, approached the Leviathan, Length. The man was covered in a smooth pitch black skin and the whites of his eyes were black but his eye balls were silver. He also had webbed palms and feet but he had no ears and he had two sets of gills on the base of his neck. A body length eel like tail extended from his waist. He only wore a silver loin cloth.
He was followed by a 20 meter long Colossal Squid with silver spotted blue skin. Length said ‘I shall pay you back for your prank!’ Ink, the squid giggled and said ‘Try as you might Length’. Eel said ‘He’s powerful we’ll need Ocean, Quake or Serpent to pose a threat to him’.
Ink said with a serious tone ‘True, do your preparations, I’ll protect you guys in my own way’. The all sent their affirmation. They didn’t want to fight Jade but he was a stranger they didn’t know, they had to be ready in case he chose to be hostile.
…
Jade sensed the new watchers who were preparing themselves to fight him. He thought ‘It doesn’t matter what you do unless you have protection against spatial manipulation. Though I need to know the origin of these guys, we’re so deep into the ocean, far from shore and they’re here, how did they survive here before they evolved, diving gear maybe? Where they stranded on a boat? Does evolving in the sea give sea race options?’.
Jade looked at the Ocean Master that kept struggling in vain to beat him. He sent to it ‘You’re gonna die now’.
…
‘You’re gonna die now’. The Ocean Master heard the words of Jade and anguish filled its soul. It had been prideful when it first came to this world, its power was absolute. But the person before it had proved it wrong, he escaped its grasp.

The experience taught the Ocean Master caution so it went searching for creatures that might be able to challenge it after it sent the Soul Parasite to kill Jade, it wanted to kill them. It killed other monsters again and again, made spawns and took surviving serious.
Then it met them, the most problematic people, people who lived in the sea. Its spawns died time and time again to their assault. It killed and captured souls of some of them and attacked with them with the knowledge it got from them. It was a hard struggle for the people as it reduced their numbers planning to make them extinct.
Then the humongous snake came, it had a weirdly strong soul although it didn’t have any soul ability. The Leviathan battled it along with the sea people, they repelled it and killed all its spawns by the time the Event came by. They then began to stall it with the Leviathan and a few of their troupes which could handle battling the Ocean Master for days.
The Leviathan grew stronger and smarter as they funneled en-code into it. Throughout the Event the Ocean Master was stuck cautiously fighting the Leviathan and the people and it lost its Conqueror job since it could not become even an Authority Level 1 King.
Jade wasn’t the only one going through hurdles, the Ocean Master was also suffering. But it didn’t come out as beautifully as Jade did, it never risked anything so it stalled. It stalled to the point where the big snake took it on itself to kill it alone. Now it was here in this situation.
…
Jade’s Cosmic Energy that was extremely subtle and hard to sense suddenly changed. Jade, who seemed like someone who had a retracted energy zone suddenly became the universe to those who saw him.
Jade connected to his soul and channeled the Space, Dread-Smith and Cosmic-Soul glyph. This time he lost part of himself, part of his memories, part of his emotions to the process he was creating. Jade thought ‘The universe is overwhelming but it is also easy to ignore since it is always all around us’.
The oppressive feeling his energy gave disappeared. No, it concentrated on his finger that was pointed forward in a tiny black ball at the end of the finger tip. Jade used his Soul Sense privilege to see the Glyphs and Mandalas of the Ocean Master. It showed:
[Soul Glyph: Infect] [Soul Mandala: Tendril]
Jade said ‘It’ll at least be worth something’. The tip of his finger extended onto a cone as the Ocean Master began to swim away as fast as it could, breaking space. But alas it never gained any distance since Jade was keeping it in one place.
Jade smiled slightly and wrote a a simple black symbol in the water. The universe seemed to scream in pain and joy at the same time as he wrote the symbol which no one knew the meaning to. Jade knew the meaning and it was quite simple, death.
His finger turned normal and his pushed the rune toward the Ocean Master that couldn’t move anywhere no matter how it moved. The glyph slowly floated toward the Ocean Master and passed through the tentacles it used to lash at it and entered the center of its body. Jade activated the rune and the soul of the Ocean Master was disconnected from its body permanently but it didn’t disperse like normal souls did. It was waiting for Jade to decide whether to take it or not and he did.

Colors blur into one another until my vision is completely white. All I can think is "Shit, not this again!" I hate being summoned. _________________________________ updates once a week until I get more time The idea for this story began in two places. One was the ridiculously rapid pace of gaining power in many novels. Both in games and in novels, I enjoy the struggle of the beginning character, why always the rush? The other was the way many monster or non-human MCs always seem to hurry to become human (again). It always felt like a cheap way to grant the character extra powers without the difficulty of writing a non-standard thought process. Thus I wanted to write the slow(ish) progression of a monster character gaining strength and intelligence, while remaining distinctly non-human. There are no stats, xp or systems, no reincarnated soul or completely formed being to start with - unless I want to make fun of those. While the MC 'evolves', the process takes months if not years to proceed step by little step. Sit down with me and imagine, what would it be like if...
