《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 187: A Parasite's Struggle to Survive

The experiences of the Soul Parasite where different to say the least; it was born in the empty soul realm unlike other creatures which were born in the material realm. In this realm it could see many souls, and a voice persuaded it to eat the souls to gain power.
The souls were all disconnected but the Soul Parasite was connected to one of them. It entered the soul and was transported to the soul realm of the creature it was in. The soul realm of the creature was chaotic; the creature had obviously never entered its own soul realm. The state of the realm changed by the minute, from a blazing hell to a underground cave to an alien planet to an unrealistic world; part of the soul realm changed state randomly and spontaneously.
The Parasite saw the floating consciousness of the creature at the center of the soul and pushed apart the things that made up its soul to check it out. The Parasite connected with the sphere of consciousness that was calmly floating in the center of the chaotic world.
Its vision changed and it saw through the eyes and other senses of a man that was in a rocky bunker around the sea. The Parasite disconnected from the man’s consciousness and ate it. In the material world the man suddenly fell unconscious… forever.
The people around him were alarmed and tried to resuscitate him but to no avail. The Soul Parasite ate and ate all the remaining parts of the man’s soul that were swiftly dissipating into nothingness. The soul realm dissipated fully before the Parasite could finish eating it, returning it back to the empty soul realm.
It learned from then on not to eat the consciousness first. It followed its instincts and spent the experiences it took from the man to build a soul bridge to another soul close by. The next person was in a completely different part of the world but was also in a bunker in a beach side area.
Time passed and the Parasite learned the ways of the soul realm. It learnt that instead of using soul bridges that cost experience it could transport itself to other people or monsters when they looked at each other. The transportation could fail too if they were not looking at themselves directly in the eyes or with their most sensitive organ but such cases reduced as it consumed more souls.

The Parasite gorged itself on souls none stop. The whole world was its own; no being was strong enough to resist it. It learnt from the experiences it went through that it was a very special existence, one that could not be matched.
Alas its pride was quickly broken when it transported itself into the soul of the Infant Ocean Master. It was stuck, it could only shell up and protect itself from the influence of the Infant Ocean Master’s soul. The Infant Ocean Master was infatuated with its existence so it didn’t rip him apart like the other souls it made contact with. It kept him for a while until one day the emotions in the Infant Ocean Master changed from joy and mindless curiosity to rage and frustration.
The Infant Ocean Master lashed at anything it could reach, that included the Soul Parasite. The shell that covered the Soul Parasite was battered to nothingness and the Soul Parasite lost this ability forever. The experiences in the shell caused the Infant Ocean Master to… mature. It accepted its stupidity and moved to right its wrong.
It ordered the cowering Parasite to hunt Jade down after giving it some information about the person in question. It threw the Parasite out of its soul but a part of the soul of the Parasite was connected with the Infant Ocean Master through a tendril. If the Infant wanted, it would destroy the soul of the Parasite.
The Parasite went in search from soul to soul looking for the soul that the Infant had shown it. It searched and searched for a long time, eating a few souls on its way, it also learnt that the fastest and most efficient way to eat a soul was to draw it into the empty soul realm with the soul bridge it could make and eat it there, the experience was well preserved and it took less time. A good amount of the souls it ate knew about Jade so it found out that he was last seen in Nigeria, hence it searched the country.
There were too many souls to search too many people with their own ideas of what Jade was and what he was doing so it took more than a year before it reached the soul of the Champion Arachni.

It was really frustrated at this point and to make it worse the Infant Ocean Master sent a message through the tendril requesting a status report. The Parasite despairingly sent a message that said it only knew the area where Jade was but couldn’t find Jade at all. This was natural since Jade lived in a separate dimension. The chances of the Parasite ever finding him were almost zero.
The Infant Ocean Master gave the Parasite an ultimatum saying it must find Jade with a week. This made the Parasite despair so much that it decided to try a different approach. It manipulated the memory of the ultimatum of the Infant Ocean Master by reimagining it and sent it to the consciousness of the Champion Arachni along with some information about the Infant Ocean Master that it got when it was in its soul to make the hoax more realistic.
This was its first time trying to communicate with something it considered a prey but the Champion Arachni responded well to the attempt of the Parasite and actively searched for Jade. To the Parasite’s surprise this attempt proved to be way more beneficial than all its grueling work at searching for Jade’s soul as the Champion Arachni found Jade two days later.
It found its opportunity and entered Jade’s soul and attempted to begin consuming his soul but something interesting happened. On entering Jade’s soul the soul tendril of the Infant Ocean Master was severed, this had never happened before. It was filled with joy as it considered leaving Jade’s soul unharmed as a thank you for severing the tendril but it wondered why such a thing would happen.
It decided to test if the tendril would return back to its soul if it left Jade’s soul but it stopped itself from doing something so foolish. If the Infant Ocean Master did connect with it again, it would kill it without question for attempting to escape even though it was an accident.
The soul tendril of the Infant Ocean Master was severed for the same reason Jade escaped from it previously; Teleportation. Jade teleported to a room in his portal storage after escaping the Champion Arachni assault with the Parasite in his soul, the soul of the Parasite was also teleported along so it severed the link with the Infant Ocean Master the same way Jade’s link with it was severed when he teleported after he met it.
It was at this moment it noticed Jade’s soul. It was stable; a lot like the Infant Ocean Master’s soul but it wasn’t as powerful. It looked into the distance and saw two humongous palms facing each other. It had never seen such a unique soul, its hunger and curiosity were aroused even more when it realized Jade wasn’t strong enough to harm it even though it entered his soul.
It nibbled into one of the comets in Jade’s soul which resembled a universe. The experience was so clear and profound; it was like nothing it had ever eaten. It noticed some inhibitions though, although it wasn’t stuck like when it entered the Ocean Master’s soul it couldn’t move about freely in Jade’s soul like it did in other souls.
Only by eating parts of Jade’s soul could it advance to Jade’s consciousness in the center. Talking about the consciousness in the center, it changed shape from a sphere and turned into Jade’s body. Jade looked at the Soul Parasite and it looked back at Jade, it smiled when it realized that Jade wasn’t nearly as powerful as the Infant Ocean Master and started gorging itself on Jade’s soul.
It would eat Jade’s soul and absorb whatever ability Jade had used to sever the tendril of the Infant Ocean Master then it would eat enough souls until it could eat the Infant Ocean Master’s soul, then it would be unstoppable! Jade’s soul was extremely easy to eat when his consciousness was in his soul, and due to the pain of loss it returned back to the material realm.
The Parasite diligently ate Jade’s soul from then on but the soul got tougher and tougher to eat the more it approached the center of his consciousness. Alas it couldn’t finish the meal before Jade evolved and it was forced to do a soul battle with him.
